Candy led us to the Tower of Toys escalator. It looked like a toy train. "I wonder which toy it is," I whispered to my sister Ashley. "And I wonder why we can't touch it." When we reached the second floor, Candy led us to the back. I saw a neon sign, flashing: TOY OF THE YEAR! "It's got to be Margie," Samantha said.

But two men were blocking the display. They were wearing bright red jackets and black pants and had high black helmets on their heads. They looked just like toy soldiers! They were each wearing a nametag. I read them aloud: "'Percy' and 'Perry.'" "What's the password?" Perry asked. "Gumdrop," Candy replied.

The soldiers each took a step to the side. Standing between them was a glass case on a platform. Inside the cage was a feathery green bird with bulging eyeballs. It had a chubby belly and skinny legs and arms. Its round feathery head tilted from side to side as it began to sing: "Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snoooow!" When the doll hit a high note, its feathers stuck straight out. It looked like a bright green powder puff! "That's Sing-along Sammy!" Ashley cried.

"He's so cool!" I took a step toward the glass case- An ear-splitting alarm filled the store. Then a voice boomed over a loudspeaker: "STAND BACK! STAND BACK!" "Okay, okay!" I quickly jumped back. "What's the big deal?" Patty said. "You would think he was the last Sammy on earth."
Candy gave us a serious look. "Well, actually, he is the last Sing-along Sammy on earth." Melvin clicked on his tape recorder and began to speak. "Last Sing-along Sammy on earth. One-"
