A Strange Way to Fall in Love Chapter Eighteen
As they were walking away gun fire went off and I saw Robert and Lola fall to the ground. I pulled my gun out crawled towards Lola and Robert. Robert was fine but Lola was hurt.
"Kyle, are you okay," she asked gasping for breath.
"I am fine," I said, "Robert, dial 911!"
I placed my hand on Lola's shoulder and applied pressure.
"Lola, stay with me! Okay," I said.
"I will try," she smiled.
I started having flashbacks of when I was getting shot when I was touring. I quickly shook my head and brought myself back to present day.
"Kyle, you have blood on your uniform! Are you okay," Lola asked hysterical.
"It is okay Lola, calm down," I said.
"They are sending backup and an ambulance," Robert said.
"Is someone after you," I asked Lola who was quickly getting worse, "stay with us!"
Lola eyes were starting to droop and I knew exactly what she was going through. The pain, the bleeding, and not to mention the drowsiness.
"Lola, stay with me," I said.
"I can't, I am just too tired," she said almost laughing, "everything will be okay. Just relax!"
"Lola, stay awake," I demanded.
Her eyes closed but she was still bleeding. The EMTs arrived and took over.
"Hey Kyle, can you tell me what happened," Horatio said calmly.
"Lola and I was sitting here talking. Then Robert came over and told Lola he would take her home," I said, "they got up and started walking away. Then I heard gun fire and Lola and Robert hit the sand."
"Then what happened, Kyle," he asked.
"I grabbed my gun and crawled over to Robert and Lola," I said, "I applied pressure to Lola's gunshot wound."
"Thank you Kyle," he said.
"Is there anyone that is after Lola," I asked curiously.
"Not that I know of," he stated, "do you know what direction the gunfire came from?"
"No sir, I did not see anyone else on the beach either," I said.
"I am sorry Kyle, but we are going to have to take you into custody," Horatio said.
"What, why," I asked confused.
"Because you had a gun on you when Lola got shot," he said, "I know you did not do it. But right now, you are a suspect."
"Yes sir," I said as I turned around and placed my hands behind my back.
It was ridiculous for them to consider that I shot Lola. I guess they are just doing there job.
"Horatio, will you let me know how Lola is doing," I asked as I got pulled away by another cop.
"Don't worry, son, I will let you know everything," he said.
"Thanks," I said.
As I was sitting in the cop car on the way to the police station, I could not help but think of the last time I was in one. It was Lola and I and the cop was a fake. Man, the adventures Lola and I had together! They were very dangerous and somewhat fun.
This was bad, I was in my uniform and news being taken to jail. Hopefully, Mark would come get me. I really hoped that Lola would be okay. I was worried about her. She was bleeding pretty bad. But most gunshot wounds did bleed badly.
Before I knew it, Marl was at the police station getting me out.
"Kyle, are you okay," he asked worried when he seen the blood on me.
"I am fine," I said thankfully, "but, Lola was shot! I applied pressure and someone called cops and an ambulance!"
"Oh Kyle, I am so sorry," he said, "she sounds like a tough girl so, she will probably make it through!"
"I hope so," I said.
"You was there this time for her. And now you will be here for her as she recovers," Mark stated.
"I hope so! I hope they do not think I shot her," I stated, "I love her to much! I want her in my life!"
"Slow down Kyle, you have only been here for one day," he said somewhat laughing.
"I know but seeing Lola again just made me think of the feelings I had for her when I was younger. We had so much fun our dangerous adventures," I said, "I just cannot help what I feel! I like her so much. And I am scared that she will not be okay this time!"
"She will Kyle, you just need to be there for her," Mark said, "did she say anything to you as you waited on the EMTs?"
"She talked some! She told me not to worry and reps because everything was going to be okay. She even smiled when I told her to stay with me," I said as I felt as if I could cry.
"Do you want to go to the hospital and see if there is any news," he asked.
"If you do not mind," I said.
"Okay, let me swing by and see if Melody wants to go," Mark said.
"You two do not have to go," I stated.
"We are not letting you sit there all alone," Mark said, "we are coming with you!"
"Okay, thank you," I said.
We sat there in silence on the way to Melody's parent's house. I just kept thinking about Lola. She has been through so much in the past and now this is happening to her. Why could she not have better luck? Why do these things keep happening to her? It was not fair at all. I would take as many bullets as possible just so she did not have to suffer through this. It just was not fair to Lola. At least I could be there with her and help her through it. I would do whatever she would need me to do. Lola probably was not going to be able to be a beach lifeguard as she was wanting too.
We were at the hospital and I had no idea where to go too. I asked around and someone finally told me to go wait in this waiting room. So, I did. I sat there for a while. I never saw Horatio come in this way. He was probably out solving this case but, then again no one died so he should not have a case to solve.
I glanced over at Melody and Mark for the first time since we had gotten to this waiting room. I had, had my head propped up my hand, looking down at the floor. I could tell Mark was exhausted and Melody was asleep on Mark's shoulder. I was really tired myself but I had to stay awake. Just in case someone I knew came by or there was any news of Lola.
