PART 3: SCARLETT'S POV

I combed my hair slowly, looking into the mirror before me. I felt horrible, knowing that i'd kissed Seth. It wasn't that the kiss itself that was bad, it was just that i'd lost control. It was all too soon! Most girls got to ease into they're hormones, getting familiar. That wasn't the case for me, the rapidly growing, half-vampire, freak! It had all come at once, overwhelming me. It wasn't fair! I sighed, thinking of what I was going to tell Seth. A knock on the door made my instincts react at once. The brush in my hands froze over and the shattered as it hit the stone ground.I sucked in a deep breath, allowing myself to relax. I checked the mirror, my eyes were back to normal. "Come in." I said, flattening the hem of my long blue, evening gown. The door creaked open, and in walked Seth. Of course, i thought to myself. Typical. He stood in the doorway, awkwardly. It looked like he was examining my dress. "Hey." He broke the silence, first. I stood there, silent. He shut the door behind him and then suddenly, he stood right before me. "About the other day.." I began. "You don't have to explain anything." I flinched, started a little. "Really?" He stepped back an inch. "Yeah, I understand. It was a mistake, we got caught up in the moment. Nobody has to know it ever happened." My whole body loosened and I sighed with relief. "I'll just have to make sure I don't phase at the same time as the rest of the pack. I dunno how i'm going to avoid Edward, though."
"It's fine. He wouldn't say anything if you didn't want him to. I'm glad you understand." He nodded, looking into my eyes for a moment. He held me there, his expression was unreadable. Then he turned and disappeared through the door. I felt, uneasy. Before I could even take another breath, the door opened again. "Oh, what is this mess?" Alice chirped, pointing at the broken sliver brush. "I, um..dropped it." She looked at me cautiously. "Really? Is everything ok? Was that dog here, bugging you? It smells like it." I laughed without humor. "No, Seth's my..friend. He just stopped by to say hello." She shrugged and moved to clean up the pieces of metal. "You know, if your going to be living alone, you should probably pick up after yourself." I sighed. "I was going to, but then you came. Which reminds me, why are you here?" She dumped the chunks into my trash bin and turned to face me. "I just wanted to let you know that Journey has come back without her sister. She's been sending me visions about you. She says something about you being the 'key'? I'm not sure, but she'd like to speak with you back at the house." My heart skipped a beat at the thought of the Sister's of Mystery. They'd nearly killed me, but in the process made me grow faster. I gritted by teeth. "Where's Secret?" She stared at me with a blank expression. "I'm not sure. She didn't say." With that, we ran back to the main house to find everyone already seated in the living room around Journey. Her long red dress looked like it was from medieval times. She turned, looking at me as i entered the room. Her eyes brightened. "You, child, must come with me." I froze and my mother, who was being held by Emmett, across the room snarled. "Where?" I asked, my voice rising a little. "The Forbidden Palace." She said, clearly. A thousand thoughts swam into my head, one initially taking over. "Why?" She stood, walking over to me. I tensed as she put her hands on my shoulders. Then, she said one word that pierced through me, freezing me where I stood. "Garnet." I stood there for a couple of seconds, processing it. Every memory i'd ever had of Garnet ran through my head. All except the last. I gasped, my eyes focusing. "What about my sister?" I hissed through my teeth, shaking the memories from my brain. "You'll see." She whispered. And then, she grabbed my palm. The last thing I saw was my mother's worried face. And then, suddenly, we were in a garden. It was huge and flowers were everywhere. We stood on a stone path and I could hear a river somewhere nearby. Before me was the biggest place i'd ever seen. "The Forbidden Palace." Journey whispered in my ear. "It allows souls trapped between heaven and earth to meet with they're loved ones...find her" I turned to face her, but she was gone. Behind me the path stretched out farther, leading to a huge stone fountain. I walked forward, my dress dragging behind me. As I got closer, I could see a figure sitting on the edge of the fountain. She had her back turned so I could see her long red hair dragging to the middle of her back. She was wearing a middle length white dress with a bow tied in the middle. I recognized her at once. She was wearing what she'd been wearing the last time i'd seen her. "GARNET!" I yelled, lurching to a stop. She whirled to face me, a grin stretching across her face. "Scarlett!" and then we were running. I leaped straight into her arms, sobbing. I could feel her slightly too-warm body against mine, but it didn't matter. What mattered was that she was here, and not hurt. She pulled back to kiss me on the forehead. "Look at you, your so BIG! They told me, but still! I can't believe it!" I laughed through my tears of joy. "I can't believe it's YOU! How are you alive!?" She pulled me to a small bench I hadn't noticed before and sat me on her lap. "I'm not technically alive. That's why i'm trapped here." I couldn't grasp the fact that she was here and looking so healthy. "Why did she bring me here?" Her expression became instantly unreadable. "It's...complicated. She says were the 'key' to unlocking the forbidden palace. Once inside, any trapped soul can be granted a second chance to live they're life on Earth." I took a second to think it all over. "Why us?" She sighed. "Secret tells me that we are special. Apparently we come from a long line of Elemental half vampires. Me being fire, and you being ice has something to do with all of this. But we aren't the only ones who have been brought here to help unlock the palace. Would you like to meet the others?" I nodded, curious as to what I had in common with these "others" She took my hand and led me further into the garden, down to a huge stream where someone was singing. "Oh, hello Scarlett. I've been waiting to meet you. I'm Renegade." I paused, taking in the sight before me. Directly in front of me, playing some sort of flute, was a centaur. Half man, half horse. "That's...impossible." Garnet jabbed her elbow into my ribs, just like old times. Renegade laughed, and held out his hand. "Nothing's impossible." I shook it, after a moment. "What is that strange singing?" I said, asking him as politely as I could manage. "Oh, that's just Addy, Come on, i'll show you." I trailed along behind him to the edge of the stream. The singing was coming from a woman, sitting on a rock in the middle of the water. She had her back turned and seemed to be brushing her long blonde hair. "Ehem." Renegade scoffed. The girl spun around quickly, her smile brightening when she saw me. "Ah, you must be the famous Scarlett. I;'heard so much about you." She jumped into the water, revealing a scaly green tail behind her. I gasped. "No freaking way!" Suddenly, she was in the water right in front of me. Such a fast swimmer. "Your a..a.." "Mermaid! It's not a dirty word, you can say it. The names Adrina, but call me Addy." She lifted her wet hand up enough for me to shake it. Her fingers were prune-like from being in the water so long. She was even more beautiful than Rosalie! The flapping of wings caught my attention. I turned around to see a boy about my age (or my physical age)staring at me. He seemed to be glowing. Garnet laughed at my admiring. "Go on, you can speak to him. "What are you?" I asked, looking for something out of the ordinary. "Who, me? I'm just the winged freak!" He said sort of stubbornly. I stared for a moment, and then two enormous white wings fled from his back. He looked like an angel, as they glowed. "Oh, Xavier! you could never be a freak. Your absolutely wonderful!" A chirpy voice yelled. To the left of me, sitting on the ground was a child. She was petting a fox that lie at her feet. It seemed content with her touching it. "I'm Akiah. I speak to animals." She said, waving from a distance. I smiled back. "Scarlett." I replied. "Oh, I know. Garnet has told me plenty about you. Is it true that you can freeze an entire room?" She stared at me with delighted child-like eyes. So did everyone else. "Now, i would like to see that. Garnet has already showed us what she can do." Renegade mumbled to himself. I sighed and turned to the water. I blinked my eyes, feeling the change happen. Then I held out the palm of my hand and listened to everyone's gasp as the entire stream froze over. "Hey!" Addy yelled, flopping around on top of the ice. I laughed and pulled my inward, crushing the ice into little pieces. I turned to Garnet, who's eyes were crimson. She held up her hand and melted away the chunks of ice. I laughed as she blew on her hand, like it was a gun. I high-fived it and looked around at all the astonished stares. "Hello, my lovelies." A familiar voice rang out from right behind me..
