Scholars could sit around in endless debate over this! Thousands of books have been written! This has been thoroughly & repeated asked on tis club. WHEN you have "real" & "true" love - you will know it.
Long a person may receive counterfeit, think it is love, only to find that it is false, and is not "real" love. There are alot of fakes that pose as love....so there is inevitable confusion. One is blessed to have love and receive. Some may grow into love & for other types the disguise is too thick, too rooted in emotional issues that it becomes very twisted and tangled.
Love is pure. It withstands the tests of time. It isn't perfect as humans though, because we are not, so it isn't bullet proof, but It holds fast and loves always, putting the need and happiness of the other before their own but also one must know what love is and love themselves in order to have a more healthy love, so that they are the sort to be aware of what it isn't.
There is always a toxic side that people can say, "Okay love puts their needs ahead of my own," yes, but it isn't healthy if it is emeshed or co-dependant either. God was not... not the toxic version, His Love is not fallible, and so that is where I learned of love. I think what better source than the author.
That is my opinion.
