Lost Article: Season Five: ...Wow.

Season five, here we come!

All right, so after watching "Jughead", I realize that we Lost fans have a lot to talk about!

(If you haven't seen "Because You Left, "The Lie" or "Jughead" yet, then please stop reading so I don't spoil it for you!)

All right, so I'm about to go on a Lost-rant? Ready? *Deep breath* Here we go:

This theory has been floating around for a while, so I thought I'd bring it to Fanpop and see what you guys thought: Sawyer stepped on that piece of bamboo (or whatever it was) in "The Lie". It was pretty big and dug into his foot pretty deep. People have speculated that because of this, Sawyer ends up getting a toe amputated. Could he be the one the Four-Toed Statue was made for? He has been awful heroic lately... (Saving Claire from her buring house? Jumping out of the chopper?) Could he become the few remaining castaways' saviour and they make a statue in honour of him?

I'm not sure how I feel about this theory... but I'm just throwing it out there :)

Now, Locke: Is he finally the master of this own destiny? Hear me out on this one. Locke saw Ethan in the jungle in "Because You Left". We saw this from Locke's point of view, but think of it from Ethan's: A man appeared out of thin air, told him Ben Linus appointed him to be the Others' leader, then disappeared in a flash of light. Weird, right? I'm thinking Ethan probably told Richard or Ben (or both). So now Ben and Richard are deffinatly on the look-out for this "John Locke", right?

Don't worry Claire, Ethan won't be back to kidnap you for a few years...

Also, remember in season one Locke and Ethan went "hunting" a lot... could they both have known what was going to happen? Or, what had already happened?

And in "Jughead" Locke tells Richard that Jacob sent him. Not entirely true, seeing as Locke hasn't spoken to Jacob yet, except for the "help me" in season three. Locke then tells Richard when and where he was born, which was why Richard was there in "Cabin Fever". Now, remember, in that same episode we see Richard give young Locke a few items and asks him to choose the one that "already belongs" to him. He chooses the knife (could he already have memories of his knife-slinging ways because he used them in the past, before he was even born?). Anyways, I'm assuming Locke was supposed to choose the compass, as it was what Richard gave to him in "Because You Left".

But Locke didn't choose it.
So is he really meant to lead the Others? Could he be there new leader because he went back in time and told them he was their leader? Not because he was actually meant to?

Now for the bomb, jughead. Daniel seems very certain that everthing will be all right once its burried. Yes, the Island is still there in 50 years, but how does he know that that's what saves them? Does he know anything about bombs? Does he know that burring the bomb will make sure its safe because he's flashed forward and saw it done? Excellent, more questions... :P

Okay, now to Ellie, our new chick-butt-kicker-Other who takes Daniel to the bomb.

This is Ellie: have we seen her before?

This might be nothing, but considering what we now know about Widmore, I think this makes sense. Ellie could deffinatly be short of Eloise. Ms. Hawking's first name is Eloise (as was Daniel's rat, which leads me to believe that she is his mother...). Could Ms. Hawking have been on the Island at the same time as Widmore (or Jones... why Jones, I wonder)? Is this how she knows so much about the Island and Desmond?

If she was on the Island with Widmore, then why is she in cahoots with Ben and not him?

Anyways, so if Jughead was burried, could this be what the Hatch was for? (Side note: Why does Desmond call it "the Hatch"? Wouldn't he call it The Swan?) Maybe the Hatch was there to make sure the bomb was difused or something... I don't know, I'm not as smart as Faraday :(, but that's my guess.

All right, so amid all of this craziness that has gone on in the last three episodes, we did get at least one answer: The US military was on the Island in the 1950s. This explains Goodwin's (remember good ol' Juliet lovin', Tailie-infultrating Goodwin?) knife. Remember, Ana Lucia noticed it was from the army in the '50s?

This leads me to believe the writers actually know what they're doing with the story... then again, they could have just got lucky :P

Lastly, (fangirl moment!) Desmond and Penny have a baby named Charlie!!!
And Dan loves Charlotte!!! (What's up with her, anyways...?)

Anyways, there are tons of questions left and tons of questions left to come... Why was Daniel in the Orchid with Chang/Candle/Wickmund? Was Chang's child really Miles? What was the mysterious package Ben pulled out of the vent? Where the heck is Jin??

dilly53 Great article! some good theories here. I like the Sawyer/Statue bit, I had not thought of that but its a definite possibility. Other wise why write it in that he steps on that at all? The Ellie/Eloise theory seems solid to me too. Also now that you mention it, I bet the Hatch was for maintaining that bomb albeit unknown to Desmond. Nice job!

Sunshine47 Great article. I hadn't thought about Ellie being Ms. Hawkings but that does seem like a possibility. I been wondering what is happening to Charlotte as well. I don't think the same thing that happened to Desmond is happening to her. She remembers Daniel, Miles and the rest of them unlike Desmond who didn't remember who Sayid was. I wonder if what is happening to Charlotte is because she born on the island? So many questions. Really where is Jin and where is Claire?

Pippi21 I love how much you love it Marissa! I love it too! ;) The Ellie/Eloise thing is definately a good theorie but there might be a problem with the accents. They don't match and I don't think the same person would suddenly speak in a totally different accent later on in life.. But who knows, maybe she's acting in one of the two occasions. Love you article, props! (and keep doing them for every episode )

grahamb Awesome article :) Props for sure. Not really sold on sawyer being the 4 toed statue but I love the idea of miles potentially being pierre changs son... that thought hadn't even crossed my mind, but this is lost so it could be true. As for where's jin... he is currently presumed dead so i doubt we'll be seeing him unless we flash back to somewhere in the season one timeline, but again who knows, this is lost :):)

Earthgirl13 There is no WAY Sawyer could have been the statue because Sayid, Sun and Jin saw it first so it couldn't have been him. And does that sound Lost? That's more Disney movie, making a statue of someone on a deserted island. I like your "Cabin Fever" theory. that part of the episode had always confused me. I didn't get why Richard was so mad. I guess he wanted him to pick the compass. I agree with you on the Elly theory. Something is definitely up there.

sfj Great Article Marisa! I totally Agree with you on the Locke part (he was choosen by Richard as a Leader due to the Fact that Locke told him to do so!) Maybe Locke was never supposed to be an "Other's" Leader. If Locke had never met Richard in 1954 probably Richard would not bother finding any John Locke born in 1956! Also agree with the Ellie's story: She is Mrs Hawkings. And my Speculation is that She and Widmoore Left the Island Together for a reason (that yet is not known) and that Daniel is their Son! I don't thing that Sawyer is the Figure behind the statue, but what the writers did by writing this scene of him hearting his toe, was actually providing us with a simple explanation of why the foot statue has four toes...it could happen to anyone from the ancient civilazation. As for the Scene with Daniel down on the Orchid Station is actuallty a on-island fastforward: at some point the island will move at the Dharma era and Daniel will take some action in order to save Charlotte from dying! As for Mrs Hawkings helping Ben: Does she know what are Ben's true intentions? I mean Ben wants to go back to the island but who moves the island cannot go back...so Ben wants to break the Rules! And he knows that there is a chance to make it possible... You see he has 70 hours: the island is like being on a multiple root exchange (like a cross road) if time line is a street then the island has not choose yet which street to follow...and that is why interraction of left behinder losteis with past charcters is possible...things can alter and change, but once the island stabilizes on a route (a timeline) then there is no way of changing this course, probably this will happen after the deadline Mrs Hawkings gives to Ben. So far season 5 (including the episode 5x04) has prove the Pin theory to be correct)

decullen i knew ellie was mrs. hawkings :) i just did and i like the bit about sawyers foot it could be true but wee'l just have to wait and see :)...
