LGBT Question

Would a transgender person be offended if someone referred to them as genderqueer?

I know I sound really ignorant, but I was thinking about it and was curious if they would be offended... I mean, I know a lot of them would have different reactions, but what would the overall feel be?

Genderqueer refers to people who don't identify as male or female, possibly both or neither. Transgender people have gender identities contrary to their physical sexual characteristics. I wouldn't be offended by a misidentification like that, as there's nothing wrong with being either and the gender thing can be confusing, but I wouldn't like if they continued after being informed of their mistake.

I thought genderqueer was sort of a word for anyone who wasn't strictly male or female, and I've heard people who were unsure of their gender refer to themselves like that, which is why I was asking. Are you trans?

It's kind of a vague term, but it's different from transgender unless you go by transgender being an overarching term encompassing all gender variancy. Yes, I'm trans, and for a while I considered genderqueer as a gender identity.
