Yes, the book series is differs quite considerably from the tv show. For instance, Richard was raised by his real mother but not his real father. George Cypher made Richard memorize the book of counted shadows from the time he was just a small boy, and it was not until he was able to recite the entire book from memory that he burned it on orders from his father. Zedd and Richard actually had a close relationship even before Richard new he was his grandfather. Rachel went with Chase, not this made up cook woman. Richard wasn't captured by Denna until much later and he killed her because she wanted him to, and was only able to turn the blade white because he forgave her all her sins toward him. Darken Rahl is a considerably more evil man who strings up his victims and cuts out their intestines so that he can read the answer to a single question that is written on their bowels after his spell. Giller is actually a kind man who gives his life to save Richard. Darken can't break through boundaries, they disintegrate on their own. Addie is a major character, they leave out an entire tribe of people in the tv show who have a major impact on Richard and Kahlan. Darken travels through the Underworld to cross the boundaries by drowning innocent children in hot lead after befriending them. The list goes on and on and the book series is a gruesome tale instead of all this friendship nonsense that is actually kind of cool. Well there you have it... by the way all of that was only in the first book, just wait till you read all eleven of them and the accompaniment that tells about Zedd's past. Yes they are definitely a good read and are worth it.

I havnt seen any of the show yet as it hasn't aired here. However from what i have gathered thus far, it differs a lot from the books. THere are extra characters who are missed out. Tond of small incidnets that are important to give full understanding of events etc. But for a series of 11 books it had to happen i guess.

Definately read the books, they are an incredible read all in. CleptoLoki answered some crucial points above. Snowdrift's answer th=o the riddle of Richard and Khalan overcoming the barrier keeping them apart was not to do with the sword of Truth, it was due to Richard being completely devoted to Khalan already so the confessors power could not touch him, as it turns a person into a completely devoted servant for a better word. Meant the effect was nullified, as he had already given himself to her.

the book series ARE different from the tv show. sometimes authors write the books series different or put more details than the tv series.u could read the books to get a different point of view the tv series.say 4 example most people say that in the books richard isn't a great fighter with swords but on the tv series he is . the author changes details like that 2 probably 2 tell 2 sides of the story . HOPE THIS HELPED!!!!!!

Well, I advise you to read all the books and the missmatches of books with TV-Show will become clear as crystall. To name a few: Richards sister appears only in the 4th book. Denna was killed by Richard that's how he made the blade white etc etc etc. There's a lot of differences. The creators say it themselves. To name one last is that Shota has a creature Samuel who was the last Seeker thouth he wasn't nameb by wizard. Really read the books you will love them. But the books are...how to say...well you'll see

some differents are in the begining kahlan and richard become friends instead lik the show broadcast she goes on her own to zedds. zedd and richard r best friends in the book. richar had merized the book of counted shadows. and in the end richard and kahlan can be together because the magic of the sword stops kahlans power from hurting him. the books r alsome i am currently on the 3rd on its rerally good
