Ten Things I Won't Forget About My Mom (A tribute)

So my mom has dementia and it's gotten worse and the fact she can't remember all the things she did and accomplished is heartbreaking. But I will always remember what an awesome mom she is!

So this list is for her. :)

1. When my mom was fourteen she was a actress for Summer Stock. (And a very good one)

2. She used to be a radio D.J for a country music station in Kentucky. (She was ready to throw out her headphones after a month of Crystal Gayle! lol! )

3. My mom met Duke Ellington once when she was a teen. He helped her down the stairs and she even had a photo taken with him. (We still have the picture)

4. My mom was born and raised in Kentucky.

5.My motto on my profile page came from her. She used to say that whenever I had a bad day. It made me feel better.

6.I was the only kid that had a birthday fairy and a candy fairy! And that was because of her! <3

7.When she was little she used to rescue homeless cats and take care of them. She loved cats!

8.My mom never got mad at me if I made a bad grade. She always knew that I tried my best and I always appreciated that.

9.My mom studied to be a broadcaster and took a film class. That's how I grew up with classic movies. I basically watched the same films that she watched and ended up liking. (who knew?) She was also really good at naming camera angles.

10.My mom always let me be me. She always loved me for who I was. To her I was just fine. I would always be her 'little tot'. And that gives me comfort.

ktichenor Thank you. Unfortunately, it's not going to get better, there's a lot she doesn't remember, she barely speaks, now. It's hard on my dad but he tries to see her. To be honest I don't know if she knows who he is anymore. But I'm very grateful for the kindness and support and prayers. <3 <3 <3 It does help. Thank you 🌺

yorkshire_rose I know ..Dementia is an awful thing to bare.My Grandmother had it.She didn't know who any of us were.So sad,but no one can ever take away your memories..they will be in you heart always <3

ktichenor I'm so sorry to hear that. ...My mom was only in her fifties when she got it so it was sudden but also a slow process before she declined. We were totally unprepared. But the memories we had will always be with us and that does give me some comfort. <3

Lavendergolden So touching and beautiful. My eyes became moist while reading it. They say that God can't be everywhere, so he created Mother. She seems a very optimistic and loving person. She really loved you, it seems. You're lucky, I guess. Dementia is awful. It takes away even the dearest memories of heart from the patient. I am praying for her health, too. I might also light a candle. You just need a hug and some kisses, that will soothe you. 😘😍
