End of Chapter 11
"The big game." I said, as I looked at the clock. "Aren't the Mariners playing tonight?"
"Yeah they are." My father said as he looked at the clock. "Jacob, switch on the game please..we really have to get a new television."
"Didn't Charlie get a new big screen?" I asked, smiling as I thought about Bella.
"Yeah..I might have to go up there soon." He said, smiling from ear to ear. "You boys staying for the game?"
"Nah." Quil said as he finished his food. "I gotta get home, my mom will wonder where I was."
"Yeah, I have to go." Embry said.
I stayed up for a bit, cleaning the kitchen quick before I went and watched the game with my father, who looked like he wanted to say something but kept smiling instead. I excused myself before the game was done, going to lay in by bed..hopefully falling asleep quickly..because the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner Bella would come back.
Chapter 12
I got up in the morning with the sun, it's light just starting to shine as I threw on a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. I decided I would be nice and made breakfast for my father and I and was just finishing up on the eggs when my dad emerged from his bedroom.
"Why are you up already?" My father asked as he wheeled himself into the kitchen.
"Can't a kid make breakfast for his father?"
"Yeah...they can but I don't think you ever have before." He said as he laughed. "What do you have planned today?"
"I think Bella might come down." I said as I scraped his eggs onto his plate.
"Oh really?" He said, his eyes twinkling. "And what are you two going to do all day?"
I was about to open my mouth to start another lie when the phone rang. My father laughed at himself as he rolled over and answered the phone, I heard a lot of uh huh's and uh uh's and an occasional nope before my father hung up and turned back to me.
"That was Harry, he's going up to Charlie's today to watch the games and he invited me to go along up there. I guess Charlie caught a ton of fish the other day and he's having a fish fry." My father said as he smiled.
"Sounds like fun." I said as I grinned, wondering if Bella had anything to do with getting my father invited. "You gonna go?"
"I think so, do you want to come?"
"Nah." I said quickly. "I think I'm gonna stay here, like I said Bella's coming down."
"Yes I think you've mentioned that a few times." He said as he laughed at me before finishing his breakfast and getting ready for the day. He had just gone in his room again when the phone rang again.
"Hello?"
"Jacob?" Charlie Swan asked.
"Hi Charlie, what's up?"
"Did your dad and Harry leave yet? I was going to ask them to pick up a few things on their way up."
"No, they haven't left yet. What did you need? I can let them know for you."
"That would be great, will you ask them to stop and pick up some potato's and an onion?" He asked.
"Sure, no problem."
"Oh and Jake just so you know, Bella just left, just keep an eye out for her please...she's been looking more tired then usual."
"I will keep an eye out for her, I think we have potato's an an onion here, I'll send them up with my dad."
"Ok thanks Jake, tell your dad and Harry to drive carefully please."
"I will, bye Charlie."
I hung up the phone and went over to the coat rack, grabbing my jacket and an umbrella before I went and stood next to the window and waited for Bella's old truck to drive down the driveway.
When she pulled into the drive the skies opened up, rain not just falling..but pouring down as if someone had just turned on a faucet. I was outside next to her truck with the umbrella open for her when she opened the door, my heart pounding as she smiled up at me.
"Hi Jacob." She said, her voice soft because of the rain pounding on her truck.
"Good call on inviting Billy up." I said as I smiled at her and held my hand up for her to give me five.
She jumped slightly so she could reach my hand, which caused her to splash in a puddle. I tried not to laugh at her..but failed miserably, laughing as she wiped mud off her pants. We were still standing in the driveway when Harry showed up to pick up my dad, Bella and I made our way up to the house so I could grab the things that Charlie had called for. I gave them to my father before taking Bella on a tour of my small house, ending in my room where we hung out until I heard Harry's truck take off down the drive.
"Where to Mr.Goodwrench?" Bella asked as I opened the door and held it open for her.
I smiled as I pulled out a list that Embry had made for me last night, a list of all the parts that we would need to get new or used. I thought about telling her who made the list, but realized that it wasn't necessary to tell her that I didn't know as much as she thought I did.
"We'll start at the dumb first, see if we can get lucky. Bella, this could get a little expensive, those bikes are going to need a lot of help before they'll run again." I said as I watched her face which didn't seem phased by the news of how much this was going to cost. "Bella, I'm talking about or maybe more then one hundred dollars here."
"We're covered." She said as we walked out to her truck and I held the door open for her. Once she was inside the door she fanned herself with her checkbook like this was no big deal.
I laughed at her as I closed her door and went around, climbing into her truck. I gave her directions to our first stop, the county dump where I hoped we could find at least half of what we were looking for.
"Did your stereo break?" I asked as she pulled onto the highway.
"Yeah." She said, her eyes narrowing a bit.
"Who took it out? There's a lot of damage." I said as I poked around where the radio should have been with my finger, wondering what happened.
"I did."
"Maybe you shouldn't touch the motorcycles too much." I said as I laughed.
"No problem." She said as she stuck her tongue out at me, the attitude in the truck light, happy and joking...something that seemed natural for her yet she seemed uncomfortable at the same time.
"The big game." I said, as I looked at the clock. "Aren't the Mariners playing tonight?"
"Yeah they are." My father said as he looked at the clock. "Jacob, switch on the game please..we really have to get a new television."
