End of Chapter 10
"No way." Bella said as she shook her head. "I'm bankrolling this party. You just have to supply the labor and expertise."
Embry and Quil both laughed at the idea of me having expertise, and when I looked at them Embry rolled his eyes...great I wouldn't hear the end of this one.
"That doesn't seem right."
"Jake," Bella said as she stepped closer to me, the smell of strawberries blowing off of her. "If I took these bikes out to a mechanic, how much would he charge me?"
"Ok, maybe you're getting a deal." I admitted.
"Not to mention the riding lessons." Bella said innocently.
"I bet he'll give her lessons." Quil said so quietly that I almost missed what he said, his eyebrows moving up and down.
"That's it...get out." I said as I reached out and smacked Quill in the back of the head.
"No, really, I have to go." Bella said as she took a step towards the door. "I'll see you tomorrow Jake." She called as she walked quickly and climbed into her car, leaving a few seconds later..my eyes watching the taillights until she was gone and I remembered my friends were still waiting in the garage...and needed to be hurt for the way they acted.
Chapter 11
I turned back and rushed Quil, taking him down with little to no effort. He hit the ground hard, knocking the air out of him and stunning him a little. While he was gasping and trying to get himself back together, I turned my attention to Embry who instantly held his hands out in front of himself.
"Whoa!" He said as he took a step backwards. "Jake, we're just messing with you."
I went to go after him, to take him out at the knees but as I moved Quill sat up and grabbed my feet, causing me to go head first to the ground. I went to kick Quill but he was faster then I was, pulling backwards hard enough to knock me back down.
"Now." Quil said as he sat up and forced me to stay where I was. "You know we're just messin with ya."
"She's pretty, you going to ask her out?" Embry asked.
"I don't know."
"CHICKEN!" Quil said, making chicken sounds.
"Whatever." I said as I swung playfully at him. "She just got out of a relationship, he more or less ripped her heart out. He left her ruined, she isn't ready."
"I didn't ask if she was ready." Quil said as he stuck his tongue out. "I asked if YOU were going to ask her out, cuz if you aren't going to I think I might."
"I'll kill you." I said, my hands clenching into fists, my eyes narrowing.
"Calm down Jake, don't have a cow...he's just giving you a hard time." Embry added as he laughed.
"No I wasn't, I was..." Quil said, but stopped himself when he looked at me. "I was just wondering."
"You two need to stay away...I'm serious." I said as I got up and started picking up the parts.
"Alright...but what do you know about bikes?" Quil asked.
"Well...we fixed that one..."
"Two years ago, we fixed a dirt bike. That's a Harley!!" Embry said as he went over and looked at the bike, almost drooling on it.
"Alright...teach me." I said as I sat down and started pulling the other bike apart.
The two of them started taking the Harley apart, setting parts into two piles Embry quickly told me was the keep pile..or the salvageable pile and the junk pile. I started piles of my own, but I quickly found that I had three piles, the keep, the dump and the question pile. I started off asking them each time I pulled a part off..but they quickly got annoyed with my questions and I started the third pile. When the bikes were torn apart and the guys helped me with my third pile we made our way into the house, all three of our stomachs growling loudly.
"Jacob, did you scare her away?" My father teased.
"Yeah, he tried to look tough." Quil added, both of them laughing.
"What about the bi.." Embry asked, cut off when I kicked him under the table so hard that it lifted off the ground.
"The what?" My father asked as he looked at me, then at my two best friends who were now very busy stuffing their faces.
"The big..." Embry said, struggling to come up with something.
"The big game." I said, as I looked at the clock. "Aren't the Mariners playing tonight?"
"Yeah they are." My father said as he looked at the clock. "Jacob, switch on the game please..we really have to get a new television."
"Didn't Charlie get a new big screen?" I asked, smiling as I thought about Bella.
"Yeah..I might have to go up there soon." He said, smiling from ear to ear. "You boys staying for the game?"
"Nah." Quil said as he finished his food. "I gotta get home, my mom will wonder where I was."
"Yeah, I have to go." Embry said.
I stayed up for a bit, cleaning the kitchen quick before I went and watched the game with my father, who looked like he wanted to say something but kept smiling instead. I excused myself before the game was done, going to lay in by bed..hopefully falling asleep quickly..because the sooner I fell asleep, the sooner Bella would come back.
