Firstly I have to officially announce (for all of those who don't know it yet) that I'm leaving this site, at least partially.
The thing is -have you ever thought of how much time Fanpop consumes for you each day?
If you write private messages to people, on message can, on average, take anywhere between 10 minutes to an infinity to write and send, longer ones take as much as 40 minutes or even and hour.
Fan clubs, if you comment on each picture, video, whatever your friends post in your club/clubs, if you also check your friend's personal clubs and clubs of your favorite celebrities, movies etc each day it, honestly can take as much as a few hours to get it all done in one day.
Posting, walls, if you deal with all the wall posts you receive and post a polite amount of them on other people's walls, it can also take quite a while depending on your account and what wall posts do you use (write each one individually or just copy and paste something popular). The same goes with adding content like pictures, polls, videos and other things in clubs, which, depending on how slow and glitchy your computer and internet is, can take quite a while to upload.
I don't know about you, only you can calculate your average time on fanpop, but for me, it can take as much as 4 hours per day, and even then I don't do EVERYTHING I'm supposed to do,
No, I'm not judging you for wasting time, I love things you post for me and stuff. But.
As corona mess started I get barely 2-3 days per week of being home alone, it's not enough to do everything here, I also have to cook my own meals, clean the apartment, wash dishes, practice musical instruments, make DIYs for orders and gifts.
Naturally I prefer sites like Pinterest and Instagram where I can be online how often I want, for how long I want and do as much as I want, instead of spending a certain amount of hours nonstop there each day.
That's what the concept of Fanpop is, years ago I loved it, now it honestly makes me tired.
I get up before dawn each of my alone days, cook and eat in a rush, while multitasking and constantly lack time for doing my hobbies, developing my creative skills and working on other things. Additionally pain and muscle tensions in my neck and right shoulder have become a second nature due to long hours of typing behind the laptop. I get sleepless nights of overthinking to make a schedule for the following day to plan each minute and second to fit in all I have to do that day.
This site is honestly the most time consuming thing I have ever seen on internet (except gaming addiction of course, which I luckily got rid of at the age of 11). It feels like a full-time job instead of being fun and entertainment (which I think is the main function of social media).
So, I have made my decision to leave this site, at least partially, yes, I'll miss my forums, clubs, DIY update articles, but what's the point in publishing them if I lack time for actually MAKING DIYs that way?
But, as I truly love all of you, and unlike club stuff, I would never sacrifice the lovely friendships I have got here, I'll keep responding to private messages, and for those who use other sites like Pinterest and Insta, we will definitely stay in tough there as I'm more active in such fun places now.
So don't worry, write me a message any time and I'll respond within a week, I promise <3 Also you can let me know of other social media you use and your other contact info if you're thinking of staying in touch with me through other ways.
I am much less active here (as many of you might have had noticed) during the recent weeks and I can already feel benefits, today I actually got up so late it wasn't even completely dark outside anymore! And I didn't have to use a flashlight to find bread and coffee in my kitchen while still being half-asleep, instead I felt rested, full of energy (what a positive change) and peacefully sipped on my coffee while watching beautiful dawn behind the window and observing how my kitchen fills with beautifully yellow rays of sunshine. It's so wonderful to have an Instagram account where you can share stuff you love with nice people without feeling duty to deal with 3 hours of work on comment, post and message buildup every day, instead I get relaxing live chats of short quick messages, that I can come online to continue or leave when I feel like.
I have made 7 small dreamcathcers for Christmas gifts this week due to having more free time in the afternoons to make DIYs without any rush. I can cook lunch with both of my hands, instead of cutting vegetables with one hard while typing with the other and doing 3 additional tasks. I even opened a "Word" file of a story I began to write a while ago but left due to lack of time, and now I'm determined to continue writing it.
And to be honest, I would have to leave Fanpop anyway, if I didn't leave now, I would 100% surely leave it in spring, when I get my high school diploma, because I can't imagine myself combining such Fanpopping routine with getting a job, studying, and living a real life I dream of starting to live after graduating. Better leave earlier so I have time to rest and develop me interests and things I want to do.
Anyway, enough explaining, Bye Fanpop, these were amazing 4 years that changed my life and gave me some lovely people that will be dear friends of mine for, as I hope, many, many more years.
I might still check stuff here from time to time when I really happen to have nothing else to do, but other than that, messages only and see ya in some other place and time. <3
