Catholics are Christians
Christians are people who believe in Christ
It was all the one religion until the reformation when it split to Catholic and Protestant then Protestant branched off into others e.g Anglican.
Protestants have less sacraments and a different belief in the Eucharist
and you spelt Catholic and Christian wrong

Wow how do I know all this.

Yes, catholics are christians. All religions that believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah are christian believes. There are many.
The first christians were Jews who believed that Jesus Christ was the savior and they seperated themselves from the jewish community who did not believe Jesus Christ was the promised Messiah, since they didn't feel like the world was much better after him.
The seperation between catholics and protestants came 16 centuries later.

And I don't want to seem like a whinging bitch here but it would be admirable if people could make an effort to spell basic words correctly:

Catholic comes under being Christian. Its just that people think of i as another religon because its the oldest religon except Jews and hebrew language. See Catholics were set apart now because The church of england was created because they didn't entirely belive in their way eg. Divorce. So Church of England was established and then,Methodist and others for the same reason but against Church of England. They all come under being Christian just run their churches differently.
Sweet! now everyone lives happy ever after. :)

i think most Catholics are VERY different from regular Christians. true, their are certain TYPES of Christians. like for instance, i am a Lutheran Christian. but what a lot of us Christians have in common is that we DON'T have priests, we DON'T ask these priests for forgiveness, we DON'T have mass, and we DON'T idolize Mother Mary. all of these things are things Catholics do or have. so in my opinion, most Catholics aren't Christian.

I'm a Christian. I was raised a Protestant, but now I go to Baptist Church & to a Methodist Church occasionally. I guess im a slight non-denominational Christian.

Everyone has their own beliefs. No offense to anyone, but my belief is that u dont have to pray to Mary or confess to a priest to get to God/Jesus. We all have our own personal relationships with The Lord Jesus Christ by praying to Him in His name. We r all Christians, period.

Catholics are not Christians. Unless you don't believe in the foundation of Catholicism, you are Catholic, NOT Christian. The foundation of the TRUE Catholic faith is that 1) Mary is the "middle man" for our prayers to Jesus/God, 2) priests MUST wear the vestments of the Catholic priesthood when performing mass, baptisms, etc. and 3) the Pope is the ultimate authority in the church and cardinals, bishops, etc. are also "rulers" in the the church.

So you see, TRUE Catholics are NOT Christians. Some may be Saved, I don't know, but if they believe in the above points, they are not Christian. Not that I hate Catholics or think they're "jackasses" or brainwashed. People just have to accept that Catholicism is different from Christianity, that's all.

I'm a Catholic; Catholics are Christians.

The only true requirement to be considered a Christian is to be a follower of Jesus; all of the other traditions of groups are just minor details in the big picture.

I'd also like to point out to Twilight_Dream that we don't IDOLIZE Mary; that insinuates that we hold her above God, and that is certainly not the case. There are Catholics that would argue that because you lack those practices, YOU'RE not a true Christian; of course, I disagree, but I think you get my point.

^^^I think that Catholics r Christians, but follow different ways than other denominations of Christians (aka more radical). They have the same Bible as we do, but its added onto in some or read differently. Some go by ritual/repetition & The Lord doesnt want repetition, according to the Bible.

Also, Ive heard that some Catholic churches (not all but a few. Im not generalizing) do not accept the book of Genesis as fact but do take in the Big Bang Theory as a most likely possibility that the world started, but God added onto it. How can u believe in the rest of the Bible & not include the book of Genesis?!

On the issue of Mary, it says in the Bible that we pray to Jesus to get to God, not Mary. Yes she was important to biblical history cuz she gave birth to Jesus, but nowhere in the Bible does it say that u should/have to pray to her in order to get thru to Jesus/God. Im not bashing, I just dont get it in some ways is all.

It's fine, Bratski, I didn't feel attacked at all; there are things and practices in the group that I don't fully understand either. I guess you could say that I'm a liberal Catholic. But of course, a lot of groups read it differently; I myself read see things in a different light than my church does. I will say though, that while there are certain customs my group re-uses, Mass and the various services don't feel repetitious...Which I'm VERY grateful for.

I've heard that about some groups too...I don't understand it either. Or why so many books were removed before the Bible was published; we should have always had access to it all. It's a shame.

On the issue of praying to Mary though, I can shed a bit more light; Personally, I prefer to just pray to the Lord, (though I tend to word it as though it's to God directly) but I understand the practice a bit. I know Catholics that pray to Jesus AND Mary, as well as various saints...I don't think that intercessory prayer is required to speak to God, but the saints are more of a helping-hand...An extra "boost" if you will. It's a bit hard for me to word that properly.

But to each their own, of course. God knows that hearts are in the right place, and that's what matters :)
