At a rock concert in Cleveland, Ohio, the announcer said, “Please welcome… the Dark Hand!”

Chow was playing the drums, Ratso and Shadowkhan the guitar and Valmont the cowbell, while Shendu was a stage prop. Finn swooped on stage as the leader, and won over the crowd. Then, all of a sudden, Jackie jumped down from a Section 13 helicopter and punched him in the face for no reason besides being “off key”.

Finn woke up screaming and panting. He decided this has gone too far, and planned to quit the Dark Hand to survive. He left his house, wanting to tell Valmont that he quit, but decided to wait until it’s morning.

At Uncle’s Rare Finds, Tohru had just failed at selling a vase to a customer and was being trained by Jackie and Uncle, while Jade was in charge of the store.

Meanwhile, a Irish-looking guy appears and hurriedly buys a lamp before selling Jade the Emerald of Killarney, which Finn wants to have for his own. Uncle recognized the Emerald, and afterwards Jade had a string of bad luck until Jackie took it from her. Almost at the moment he did, there was a small beam of light, which Jackie noticed and was about to ask Jade about until he was cursed with bad luck, while the curse was lifted from Jade.

Meanwhile, Finn is having auditions for his new crime syndicate in an old theater. The first guy who tries out (while bearing an uncanny resemblance to Marshall Law from the Tekken video games) shows off his talent with nunchaks, and unfortunately hits himself in the head with one of them. The next guy that comes out bears an uncanny resemblance to Jaws (the human villain with metal teeth from the James Bond Junior cartoon), but fails at chewing through the log. The third guy (who looks like the actor from the movie that inspired Star Wars) shows off his talent by cutting up some haystacks. However, he gets scared after seeing a mouse and runs off, with the mouse hot on his heels.

Finn is horribly disappointed about the turnout, but, luckily, Chow and Ratso show up, explaining that they quit after Finn. He tells them about the Emerald of Killarney while they walk to a dressing room. Inside the room and tied to a chair is the Irish guy (which happened to be the very same one who gave the Emerald to Jade).

Meanwhile, Jackie had been locked in Uncle’s closet. Jade and Tohru showed up with twenty-three books on Irish legends. Uncle read about how the curse can only be broken by returning the Emerald to the tomb in Ireland that it was stolen from.

Jackie tries to make it to a cab, but loses Uncle’s good luck charms before nearly getting run over by a truck, nine cars and a motorcycle and finally making it to the cab. However, seconds later, Finn and the others showed up in a car, and as the unlucky Irish guy told them about the curse, Finn brushed it off, saying, “I’m Irish, and every Irish dude knows that that curse is a bunch of blarney!” (which could be another hint about his past, possibly).

At the airport, Jackie ends up in the baggage check machine, and once he was on the plane, he gets squashed by the reclining guy in front of him.

When Jackie finally arrives at the airport in Ireland, he sees that Jade is already there, waiting for him. Dismayed, Jackie attempts to tell Jade that she is going back to San Francisco, but keeps getting interrupted by a few people who walk by (while pinching him in the process). So, out of frustration, he finally asks Jade why they were doing that. Jade then explains that it is Ireland, he isn’t wearing green and it is kind of St. Patrick’s Day (which explains why Jade is wearing green shoes on her feet instead of her usual red ones). Jackie tries to get a green hat in order to avoid getting pinched again (as well as blend in a little).

However, Finn and the others show up, demanding the Emerald, and as Jackie tries to escape them, his pants get caught on a uneven fence.

Finn tries to grab the Emerald, but Jackie retrieves his pants, sending Finn sprawling off the fence which Ratso smashes down, and then Jackie runs across the rooftops while swinging onto a clothes line, grabbing a pink-polka dot bathrobe on his way down. On the street, he nearly gets beat up by two persons named Seamus, but is grabbed by Ratso just as Finn grabs the Emerald, and gets thrown into the dumpster. Jade returns his pants to Jackie just as Uncle calls him, telling him that if the Emerald is stolen, the curse will remain on Jackie forever, and promptly the garbage pipe’s contents spew out on his head.

Luckily, Jade gets some information from a bunch of locals down at a pub on where Finn’s gang is by disguising herself as a leprechaun, and one of them tells her that he found out about “some fellas” (meaning Finn and his gang) down at the old potato factory. But then, as Jade turns and is about to leave, one of the patrons speaks up and says that if they catch the leprechaun, they’ll get the pot of gold. Jade runs off, with the pub patrons on her tail.

After arriving at the potato factory, Jackie goes inside and sees Finn talking to someone over the phone about selling the Emerald. Jackie reaches out for the Emerald, but accidentally starts the machine. Chow and Ratso hold Jackie up, and he willingly gives the Emerald to Finn (along with the the bad-luck curse). However, Jackie is finally able to fight back, and as a result, he manages to defeat Ratso and Chow before finally defeating Finn, which causes Finn to land in the vat of mashed potatoes where Ratso and Chow are.

Meanwhile, Jade is chased by the pub patrons, but manages to stop them in their tracks by telling them that they caught her. Much to their surprise, she then says that all they have to do is follow her, and she’ll lead them to her “pot of gold”.

As soon as Finn, Ratso and Chow climb out of the potato vat and land onto the floor, Finn then reaches into his suit, pulls out the Emerald and finally admits the very thing he had denied even to himself the whole time: the Emerald is cursed. Jackie tells Finn that he will take the curse back, if Finn, Chow and Ratso will leave Jackie alone.

At that moment, just as Finn gives the Emerald back to Jackie, Jade and the pub patrons come in, and the leader of the patrons tells Finn to “hand it over”. Thinking the leader means the Emerald, Finn says he just did, and that Jackie has it. Fortunately for Jackie, however, the patron leader grabs Finn and says he didn’t mean the Emerald, and a fellow patron explains what Finn had already found out the hard way: “Every Irishman knows that rock carries a curse”.

Finn, Chow and Ratso then make a run for it, with the pub patrons right behind them. Ratso and Chow tell Finn that they quit, but Finn says that he has found the perfect gang name.

Meanwhile, Jackie and Jade finally return the Emerald of Killarney to its tomb, and the curse is lifted off of Jackie for good. He and Jade walk happily through Ireland until a black cat crosses Jackie’s path, he breaks a mirror and then walks under a ladder.

Jade surmises that all that was “eighty years’ bad luck”. Jackie wonders if that is all superstition, but soon finds out it wasn’t when someone dumps rubbish on him.

********************************

This episode is really awesome, as well as very neat, inspiring and well-written, too. Plus, the idea of Jackie (and Jade) going to Ireland sounds awesome from my perspective, and I can also see a fanfic of what could have happened after the episode ended, especially of how Tohru and Uncle would hear about it from Jackie and Jade, as well as (at least in Tohru’s case) congratulate Jade for using her smarts and imagination in pretending to be a leprechaun as her way of getting info from the pub locals, too.

I give this episode a double thumbs-up... :)
