Christopher Manavi, Internet entrepreneur, author, and SEO authority recently sat down with CNBC to discuss the precarious landscape of the Internet commerce landscape.

CNBC: What are the big differences between the online commerce landscape now, as opposed to over a year ago?

Christopher Manavi: In my opinion the viability of a deft idiosyncratic SEO [Search-engine optimization] model is greatly disadvantaged currently due to the bourgeoning keyword competition as well as a more constrained SEO tool-kit.

CNBC: I take it you are alluding to Google's recent Panda search updates?

Christopher Manavi: Absolutely. To combat internet search spam as well as blatant uninformative affiliate websites, Google has mitigated the SEO arsenal if you will that was once available. For example, quality back links once commonplace to individual SEO's are now increasingly available only to those with privileged access. This has increased the difficulty for the small guy to create an internet start-up in my opinion.
