If you have not yet read Part 1, do so now. If you have not read Inheritance, do so now. This is your last warning.
We last left the new Rider and dragon on the threshold of Daret.
CHAPTER 5
Delva winked at me. I noticed the playfuul gleam in her ruby eye. She laughed, a rough coughing sound.
Daret is safe for us, she said between chuckles. I was only jesting. You need not look like my lunch.
After she said that, I lightened up. Delva was fun to be around, most of the time. I could hardly wait to meet Eragon.
As was our plan, we spent a vert short time in Daret. From Daret, we traveled south across the plains, heading for Dras Leona. From there, we had a few options. We could continue south to Aberon or go east to Ilirea.
The southward route proved, on closer inspection, to be the safest. It grew very warm as we approached the Surdan capital. From there, we made for Orthiad, where Galbatorix had sent the Urgals so many years ago.
Dwarves led us on the next part of our route. We stayed a week in Tronjheim, so that I could tell Delva about the Battle of Farthen Dur. After that, we made for Hedarth, the trading outpost.
CHAPTER 6
After many long days of travel, we finally reached our new home. Dragons flew everywhere, trumpeting their welcome. A lone man came out of the hall, the entrance of which was immense. The man looked much fairer than me. He smiled.
I wondered where Eragon was. Chances were, he would be with Saphira.
Delva bowed low to him, then chastised me.
Yarron! Bow! Or at least greet our teacher intelligently.
I did as she asked, not wanting a mad dragon to deal with. Eragon returned our gestures. Someting seemed to be missing from the picture.
Delva asked before the tought was fully formed in my mind.
Eragon, where is Saphira? We thought she would have been out to greet us. Is she well?
The older Rider laughed. His laugh sounded more human than I expected from the elf.
"Saphira is fine. She is with her eggs at the moment. Ah, here she comes now," he said. True to his word, a massive blue dragon, larger than the others, flew from the hall towards us. She dove towards the ground, showering the three of us in a spray of dirt.
What are your names, she asked. Her mind was similar to Delva's, alien with a caring undertone. Delva answered first.
My name is Delva and this is my Rider, Yarron. Dragon and Rider indicated their approval.
"Well, Yarron and Delva, we should get you two settled in. By the way, where are you from?" It took a moment before I could find my voice.
"We came from Therinsford in Palancar Valley. I grew up there." Eragon's next words stopped me in my tracks.
CHAPTER 7
"I grew up in that same area, just a bit farther north. Carvahall was the name of the village. It was destroyed by the Empire before you were even born. Now my cousin, Roran, is overseeing the rebuilding. Tell me, how is it going?"
"Last I saw, the village was nearly done. They probably finished rebuilding while we were on the road," I replied. The two female dragons walked behind us, eachh with her Rider.
In that manner, we entered the hall to begin our training.
Here ends Part 2 of the tale. In Part 3, Yarron and Delva will be tested in many ways. We may also see some familiar faces again.
