Well,I think they're friends but if Damon gets mad does stupid things and if Caroline gets mad she kicks your ass.So,according to me they're good friends because if you remember Damon saved her a lot of times but if he finds someone who hinders him he gets mad and he fights with him(things that happened in episode 4 with Caroline).
I heard that Julie Plec said that Caroline will kick Damon's ass again in 3x05!I'm so excited!:)
