Hugh came in to House’s office that same night. He took the seat across the table as the doctor looked at him closely.
House: Hugh Laurie… Married for almost 20 years with three publicly known kids, 50 years old and ---
Hugh looked at him.
Hugh: How did you ---
House: Hey I got my own interweb here…
Hugh: And I’m screwed.
Silence followed for a few minutes.
Hugh: If I accept this dream or hallucination or whatever you call it, would it bring me back to life?
House: I doubt it…
By next morning, Hugh and House found themselves sharing table in the cafeteria. They were eating some hallucinated Reuben sandwich and coffee while staring at their best buddies, Stephen Fry and James Wilson from afar.
Hugh: If we know each other, do they know each other too?
House: If they do, they could have shared a table too…
Hugh: I shouldn’t die. There’s more for me to do with Stephen…
House: Yah, me too. I have a lot of chips to snack away from Wilson.
Hugh shook his head.
After two days, House’s condition hasn’t improved. The eye bag on Cuddy’s showed how tears had fallen for the last hours. She was slowly caressing his hair when Wilson entered the room and took the left side of his friend’s bed.
Wilson: He hasn’t woken up?
Cuddy: If he did, would I be crying?
Wilson just looked at her as she wiped her tears that kept falling. Little did they know that House’s soul was there outside of the room, looking at them. He was twirling his cane when Hugh joined him again.
Hugh: Those tears tell me so much who that woman is in your life…
House: She’s my boss…
Hugh: But you said she’s your ---
House: Yah, I was just jerking you around so you would shut up. Turns out it didn’t help.
Hugh’s attention was caught by the noise that’s becoming louder as it gets closer. House saw him drawing a smile as the voice became as familiar as it could be.
House: 50 bucks says the person who owns that voice matters to you than your wife’s…
Hugh: Let’s say you’re right…
House looked back at him after looking at Lisa going in Hugh’s room. Puzzled, he looked at Cuddy who was closing his ICU room door.
