Huddy Article: House/Cuddy Discusion

Right guys, here goes... (be prepared for this to turn into a bit of a rant at some points!)I was watching season one again, and when i watched Three Stories, i noticed that there are absolutely NO references that House and Cuddy know each other, AT ALL. (unless i completely missed something and then i apologise) It was dead strange, especially when in season two episode Humpty Dumpty when searching Alfredo's house with Cameron, and Cameron asks some very un-subtle questions, she says that she knew him from college in Michigan, but surely that would mean she knew him when he had the infraction? Then, i started thinking that the writers maybe had Cuddy in season one as House's 'foil', the one who woule keep him in check and then decided that their relationship and dynamic was one they should explore further and could be of gret entertainment value.

Also, when i am talking of season 2, also in Humpty Dumpty, when Cuddy is talking to Stacy about how House was right and feeling sorry for herself for not being a very good doctor (thats what i thought she was upset about anyways) and House comes in and does that wee speach about her naivety and how she is a good boss, and it's a very touching speech and moment and then he says
"Why does everyone think we had sex? Think there could be something to it?" as he leaves her office, and she watches him go with a very cute and somewhat happy smile on her face, and you think (well i did anyway) 'well, well, well, something definately went on between those two!'. Then the camera angle changes and Stacy is brought back into view and she gives Cuddy a look as if to say 'what is going on here?' and the smile falls from Cuddy's face. To me. i saw this as if she was smilng away at some memory about her and House, and she forgot Stacy was there, because as the guy in Insensitive said when she is talking to him nothing else in the world is going on (I know that was much later, but it got me thinking about it when i was watching them interacting in earlier episodes). It was as if she had forgotten Stacy was there and when she 'realised', she dropped the smile from her face, as if to hide the happy memory from Stacy.

Ok, so maybe i over-analysed the scene, but hey i have Huddy on the brain!!

salemslot You're not the only one who has Huddy on their mind!Huddy is a contagious ailment,no one wants to get rid off!As far as I am concerned,when I first saw 3 Stories,I could see sadness in Cuddy's eyes when she was going over House's case and it kinda struck me as odd because it was more than the onventional sympathy a doctor feels for a dying patient,so I was a bit suspicious about her knowing him before.Don't forget that the writers wanted to take Cuddy off the show(thank God they changed their minds!) and that's why they brought Stacy to the front but they put the hint just in case.I totally agree with you about Humpty Dumpty.That scene was one of the few we actually saw Cuddy genuinely smiling so yes,that smile said a lot more things than words do!

bainmoussant I don't think you've overanalyzed that scene in "Humpty Dumpty," especially if you interpret it knowing what we later learn in "Top Secret": that there indeed [i]was[/i] something to the rumours! I think that, at that point in season 2, the writers had decided to give House and Cuddy a past "connection". Yet I agree with you too that it was probably not drafted at the time they did "Three Stories". I've always thought it was odd the way they addressed each other (kind of very formal for two people who've supposedly known each other for over a decade). But we all know the show is famous for its sloppiness regarding time line... We can also try and find the writers excuses by interpreting this as meaning Cuddy indeed only knew House "as a legend" back in college, and they barely knew each other at all before the events of "Three Stories". That would mean the one night stand happened [i]after[/i] the infarction, and after Stacy left House; at about the same time Cuddy hired him. What do you think? Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Hope to hear more soon!

Shikabane-Mai [b]Salemslot[/b], the writers really planned on taking Cuddy off the show back in season 1? O_O;; I didn't know that! I bet they're relieved now that they DIDN'T take her off the show, 'cause now there are a hell lot of viewers who are Huddy fans.

salemslot From what I remember,Cuddy was hated(that is a harsh word) in the beginning of the show because of her one-dimensional character and LE wasn't that pleased about her screentime(does that remind us of someone?)so the writers were considering to take her off the show but the whole arc with Vogler saved her neck.Thank God :)

Shikabane-Mai Haha, thanks salemslot for that info! I know a lot of people thought she was one dimensional and basically had no point on the show. I'm SO glad they left her on the show! Look at now and how many Cuddy/Huddy fans there are! :D

emzypemzy Bainmoussant your theory about Cuddy and House's one night stand being after the infarction is really a very god idea!! I never thought of that, oOoOoOoOo that would make it more interesting and more exciting, will need to let my brain process these thoughts before i dive right in and analyse a whole lot of other Huddy moments! Also, your idea that mayne she only knew him as a 'legend' in college helps to explain why she didnt (in my opinion) seem to know him very well in 3 stories. Salemslot watched the episode again (again) and i see what you mean about the extra sadness, she does seem to be a bit more upset and a bit more affected by his case than a doctor usually would be, but then i thought that it's Cuddy, and she identifies with patients a lot more, and does feel for them and feel guilty if something goes bad. I also noticed the look of sadness (and maybe a little guilt) on Cuddy's face when after the lecture, House walks past her, giving him the mug and telling her why the usual lecturer gets sick a lot. He is solving all puzzles, even wee ones, and she looks to me like she was going to say something to him (or wanted to say something to him) but he cut her off with the reason the other guy was sick, not letting her talk about it, because he doesn't want to talk about it. I think he did the talk about him as he needed to takl about it, but when he realised Cuddy was tere he did not want to talk about it to her as that would be far too hard for him to do . I do remember hearing somewhere that they had wanted to take Cuddy off of the show, and that would make sense of why there wasnt much to suggest they knew each other in 3 stories. OK, this ended up a lot longer than i meant it to!!

pure_rebellion LOl i like all this analizying and stuff and since i only tuned into house in season 3 i dont realy know what your talking about but i am shocked that they wanted to take cuddy off the show!!
