A Happy Life: Chapter 12(6/11/09)

[House and Cuddy sit in silence holding on to each other for awhile. A baby's soft cry can be heard coming from the nursery. Cuddy starts to get up off the bed and House gets up and turns towards her.]

House: I'll go get the kid.
Cuddy: I can go..

[House had already exited the bedroom and padded down the hall to Rachels room before Cuddy finished her sentence. He entered the baby's room and saw her sitting up in the crib whimpering. House walked over and looked down at the child that even though she wasn't Cuddy's biological daughter she could still nail him with that smile and those eyes. House reached into the crib and fetched the child. He carried Rachel over to the rocking chair and sat down. House sat there looking down at Rachel and Rachel was just staring up at his big blue eyes.]

House: Kid there you go looking at me with those Cuddy eyes.

[Rachel smiles at that comment. House smiled back at her. House's mind wandered to the times he had given Cuddy such a hard time about becoming a mother. House knew that he was a down right bastard to her at times. He knew he was even sorry for a lot of stuff he had said to her. House had never told her that maybe he would some day. House started rocking Rachel in the chair. He slowly began to fall asleep as did Rachel. Cuddy fell asleep herself on the bed for awhile.]
[Cuddy awoke a few minutes later and didn't see House. She got up and walked down the hall to the living room. House wasn't in there so she headed to Rachel's room. She had just reached the doorway when the sight before her made almost cry and laugh at the same time. Gregory House was sitting in the rocking chair with Rachel nuzzled on his chest drooling on his Rolling Stones t-shirt. They were both sound asleep. If only she had a camera no one would believe her. She slowly crept over to House and gently bent down and kissed the infant on the cheek. Cuddy then kissed House on the cheek.]

Cuddy: I love you both so much.

[Cuddy placed her hand on still flat stomach and closed her eyes.]

Cuddy: I love you to baby House. I hope you are just as smart as your daddy but less cranky.

[House had heard Cuddy enter the room. He chose to keep his eyes closed. House felts the soft caress of Cuddy's lips on his cheek. House heard the words that she had said. He opened his eyes to see Cuddy with her hands softly caressing circles her lower abdomen. House slowly rose with the infant on his shoulder and was now standing in front of Cuddy. He placed his free hand on her cheek.]

House: Cuddy the kid drooled on Stone's shirt!

[House put the baby back in her crib and then turned toward Cuddy who had a big smile on her face. Cuddy grabbed House's hand and led him down the hall towards her bedroom.]

Cuddy: Come on daddy lets get you back to bed.

[House opened his mouth to say something sarcastic but he found no voice. A dad he was going to be a dad. In all the time House was away at Mayfield he never would have thought that his life would ever head down the road it was currently careening. All he knew was that this beautiful dark haired stubborn woman was his chance at a happy life and he was taking it. When they reached the bedroom House pulled Cuddy into a hug. They both just stood there holding onto each other.]

House: I'll always want to kiss you Cuddy. .
Cuddy: I love you House.
House: What are we going to tell everyone at the hospital. Wilson will be all gushy and weepy.
