“Daddy” <Part Three>
Cuddy, looking exhausted was lying still on her bed with additional machine connected to her.
House was standing in front of Chase, Wilson, Taub, Kutner and Thirteen. He’s angry and his voice was firm and angry.
House: I didn’t authorize an exploratory surgery! Now you hand her over to us with a liver failure?!
Chase: It was your signature on the consent form! And we didn’t do anything to cause her liver to fail!
House: I didn’t sign any consent form for an exploratory surgery since our patient and our BOSS is one. You’re putting her life at risk as well as the baby’s!
Chase: Wait, are you saying there is another Dr. House in this building? It was you’re signature on the paper!
House: Look, do you think I would do it?! Ordering an exploratory surgery when our patient is high risk pregnant?!
Chase: Fine. <He placed the consent form on the table> See your signature for yourself.
House looked at the consent form and noticed that it was his signature but not his handwriting.
House: Where’s Foreman?
In Cuddy’s room, Cuddy was still lying on her bed but this time she’s awake. Foreman and Cameron were there. He was fixing the knotted IV tubes while she was fixing the flowers near Cuddy’s bed. The door slid open and House walked hurriedly inside. Behind him were Wilson, Taub, Kutner, Chase and Thirteen. As Foreman turned to see them, House punched him at once. Foreman stumbled down.
Cuddy: House!
House: You idiot!
House was pulled by Wilson and Chase as Foreman was helped to get up by Kutner and Taub.
House: You have no right to mess with me!
Foreman: From the start, you are already a mess, House.
House dared to attack Foreman again but Wilson and Chase held him too tight.
Cameron: Foreman, stop it!
Cuddy: What the hell is going on?
Foreman: I did what is supposed to be done.
House: On the wrong time and with the wrong person.
Silence surrounded the room. Only the strong breathe and machines can be heard.
House: I won’t let you kill MY baby.
All of them looked at each other except House who looked at Foreman sternly. Cuddy gave a sighed.
House: It’s what you wanted to hear, right? Now you’ve got it. Get your money from Cameron but don’t step beyond what you can’t handle or else I will be the one who’ll kill you.
Chase: You forged House’s signature for what?
Wilson: To get the baby’s DNA and let it be tested?
Cameron: That’s rude.
Cuddy: Foreman, I want to hear it from you.
Foreman looked at Cuddy.
Foreman: Yes.
Cuddy: <Tearful> Get the hell out of here.
Kutner and Taub released Foreman and he walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him. House was also let go by Wilson and Chase. One machine beeped, Cameron checked it out.
Cameron: Baby’s heart rate went up.
House looked at the monitor.
House: Do an ultrasound.
Later on, the room was once again settled. Cameron is trying to look for the baby’s proper position to get the heart rate. House was seated away from Cuddy trying to play with his cane but he wasn’t looking at Cuddy, beside him was Wilson. Thirteen was behind Cameron, waiting for the baby.
Cameron: I got it.
Cameron looked at House and all looked at him but he didn’t stand up. He could see from where he was the blurred image of his kid. He gave a sigh and looked outside as Wilson stood up to look closer to the baby. Cuddy tried to lift her head to see her baby. All were wearing a smile except House.
Wilson: Oh, our little boy’s too small to see…
House looked at him and to the monitor and went back to look outside but he didn’t stand.
Cuddy: And how did you know it’s a boy?
Wilson: Men know what boys look like. <Cameron, Cuddy and Thirteen chuckled>
Thirteen: He’s moving.
Cuddy: Yah, I’m feeling him.
House stood up and all eyes on him. He walked and stopped by the doorway as he glanced at the monitor and left the room.
The next day, Cuddy’s mother and sister visited her. They brought gifts to share and food as well. Cuddy said she’s fine although she thinks she doesn’t feel better this morning. She admitted that she vomited almost everyday that sometimes scared her because her throwing up is more than enough already. House was standing outside just beside the Nurse’s Station and after finally entering Cuddy’s room.
Cuddy: Mom, this is ------
House: Dr. Gregory House, your daughter’s doctor.
Cuddy looked at him and he did as well.
Mom: Thank you for your care, doctor…
Cuddy suddenly felt painful spasms on her belly. She’s trying not to show it but House noticed.
Cuddy: Actually, mom ----- House….
She grabbed House’s arm as blood started to flow between her legs. She panicked when the pain was already unbearable. House call for a crash cart and a bag of blood immediately then he looked at Cuddy.
By night, Wilson entered a bar where House is. He found his friend drinking alone on the counter and he approached and sat next to him.
Wilson: Are you okay?
House shook his head before drinking another glass of wine.
Wilson: What’d you find out?
House: HG
Wilson: HG? Hyperemesis Gravidarum? Cuddy has HG?
House: Yah.
Wilson: Well, you shouldn’t be here. Go back to the hospital, treat her and save your kid.
House: No.
Wilson looked at him.
Wilson: Wha ---
House: There’s nothing to save <Drink again>.
Wilson: You lost the baby?
House: Not totally, but we will.
Wilson: Does Cuddy know anything about this?
House shook his head.
House: I told my team not to let her know anything about her condition instead give her blood to keep her up for tomorrow. I will tell her next day before the DNC procedure.
Wilson: Oh boy… <He sighed>
House entered Cuddy’s room the next day. Fortunately, she’s awake and was wearing a smile when he entered.
Cuddy: Hey…
House: <Smiled> Hey…
House sat on the chair next to Cuddy’s bed.
House: I have to tell you something…
Cuddy: You’re scaring me…
House: You’re not the only one who’s scared right this moment. <He sighed> I don’t want this to happen but I think…
Cuddy: House, please don’t say it…
House: We have to give up the baby…
Cuddy started crying as she shook her head.
Cuddy: No, no, we don’t need to…
House: Listen. I don’t want to give this up but the baby had died since yesterday.
Cuddy: The blood?
House nodded and Cuddy cried some more. House got up on his feet and held Cuddy’s head into his arm and leaned it unto his chest as he brushed her hair with his bare hands.
By afternoon, Cuddy’s on the operating table. Machineries and blood bag were connected to her as doctors surround her. One of them was House and so was Chase. Wilson, Thirteen, Cameron, Taub and Kutner were in the viewing area.
House: Chase, start the procedure.
Chase nodded and started cutting Cuddy’s belly. Thirteen and Cameron looked tense upstairs as Wilson gave his sigh. Cuddy was then cut open until the uterus was visible which Chase also cut to give way to the outgoing broken fetus. Blood was sucked out before the proper DNC procedure.
Chase: House…
House moved closer to the open uterus of Cuddy. He slid his finger into it and made his way to his baby. He pulled the fetus and out came a small hand and arm <fetal position epi.> but this time smaller then finally a broken flesh of human fetus was on his hand. All of them stared at House as House looked at his baby while holding back his tears and he looked at Cuddy who’s unconscious.
House: Clean and close her up.
A nurse appeared next to him, offering a basin. He placed the fetus slowly in it and looked at it as the nurse entered another room.
That night, House was alone and drinking in his apartment. He was seated on his sofa as if thinking something deep. A flash of scene will be on Cuddy still in hospital and on bed. Her room door open and Cameron and Thirteen went in with Rachel at hand and handling the baby to Cuddy as she made a slight smile. Flash scene again then it was Foreman taking out his things and a pack of marijuana from his locker. Chase was painting a spare room in the house. Kutner filling out a new job form and Wilson tearing out his shrink test result. The flash scene will be back to Cuddy who’s carrying Rachel as Thirteen and Cameron smiled behind her and finally House, standing beside his piano and reaching for his wallet. He pulled out a sheet of paper, opened it up and it was his baby’s ultrasound. He looked at it as he drinked another glass of wine until the story fades.
