This could go both ways. I think it just depends on when they were made.

What is wrong with remakes? Some of them are better than the originals. I prefer the remakes of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Although The Amityville Horror remake sucked. I guess it depends on the individual movie.

No movies are wrong per se. It all depends on how well the remake is done. Special effects have come a long way in the past 20 years so some 70s horror movies could benefit technically from a remake.

I can only think of two remakes that I think were an improvement on the originals... John Carpenter's version of "The Thing" (can still make me cringe & more true to the original story), and silly as both versions were, the remake of "The Blob".
I guess part of it depends on how old you are, and what you appreciate (actors, effects, etc).
In some cases, it's interesting to see what has been done, but in most cases, I'll pick the original any day!

I Only Say this Cause Some Movies Deserve Remakes. Some Should not Be Touched and If they are Messed with We Need an Amazing Director to do Something Good about it.

There are only 2 remakes that are any good and those are Dawn of the Dead and The Hills have Eyes. Those are better then the originals, but when it comes to movies like Prom Night, Holloween, and The Fog. They should be dismissed as never being made at all. Alot of movies have been and will be screwed up because the people making them aren't concerned about what made the originals great to begin with they're only worried about how much sex and cheap effects thay can stick in it.

I can't think of one remake (in any genre at all!) that has been even a slight improvement on the original. Planet Of The Apes for eg was a shocker!!!

I think it's a great idea to remake older movies using special effects. I mean anything can be better after 20 years to approve on it. Just think about it.

Yeah, the Halloween remake was way off of the mark. I wouldn't have a problem with remakes if they were done well, but 98% or the time they are not.

I think they are good ideas it's just some directors and creators ruin them and make them unsimilar to the original....there are some remakes that are either better than the original or just as good as the original..

I will say for the most part it is a case by case senerio. But people now in days don't seem to know what horror even is and it tends to show when you can take a creepy movie, remake it, and it provides no scares.

I have seen a few (a very few)good remakes. But overall remakes are just redundant and poorly done. Some originals are PERFECT, why remake them??? Like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Halloween". I generally don't like remakes.

when u make something u CANT REMAKE IT PEOPLE. THINGS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE REMADE OR REPLACED.. BUT U DONT HAVE TO AGREE WIT ME,when u make a specific movie and there is a person or thing that is orginally.. that (SOMETHING) no one or anything else can replace that certain person or thing, because when the first something does it, IT BECOMES THE ORIGINAL and u cant change originals.. so i say remakes are lame.... unless its a certain movie that would need very much touch to it.

Why remake good movies? Most of the remakes suck. I think the only remake I actually liked was The Amityville Horror. Anyways, remakes can actually not compare to the originals. They are usually just plain awful. Like Halloween, I found to be too gory, sure you learn more of why Michael turned into a psycho killer than you did in the original but still why recreate a good film. Like Total Recall. Now they are remaking The Crow. They just can't come up with anything new, they have no imaginations.

Remaking movies constantly just shows they're running out of ideas. Most remakes of any genre ruin the movie anyways. Some of the old horror movies are so pathetic and fake but remaking it doesn't help when the movie was never good.

Horror movie remakes may sound like a good idea at first glance, but the problem with them is that more often than not, they don't do the originals any justice. They're usually just uninspired, unoriginal, and uncreative.
Plus, remakes just seem to be ultimately pointless; especially when they're remakes of already good films. It's like fixing something that's not broken; why bother wasting the time?

Another reason why remakes are a bad idea, take a look at the new Poltergeist. It was so awful. It can't even compare to the original. It was so stupid that it was the biggest mistake that was ever made. It was that horrible. It was also like an insult to the original. And as I said in my first comment, some can be good but mostly to me, just because of the technology that we have now, you have to think about the acting, acting makes a movie good and the plot. A lot of remakes aren't always like the originals as they tend to modernize them such as Poltergeist, Carrie, Halloween, Friday the 13th. They were all based in the 70's and 80's but today they use cell phones and computers, etc. I just prefer the originals.
