I actually like to think those feelings developed during the World Wars, where they stood back-to-back, allies and equals, fighting together, understading how much they needed each other and how much they changed over the years. It was a baptême du feu-type of experience for their relationship. However, I can totally picture America feeling an inexplicable longing for England ever since he was little.
