Heroes Question

How did Sylar kill Eden McCain?

In season 1 episode 11 (I think) Sylar used his power to break the glass and then Edan shot herself. But how could he do that? And why didn't he do it to the guy keeping him there? And why didn't her powers work on him??? Please help!

Eden shot herself because she didn't want sylar to get her power, because she knew that if he had her power he could be alot more powerful, and take advantage o it and use it in the wrong way.
