I think it's psychotic because the two are different mediums and what may work well in print may not necessarily work well cinematically.

There's no way on earth that a director would make a movie the exact same as the book. It would never work.

no book is ever the same as the movie. Plus HP is so rich how would you fit everything in it. Each would be 4-5hrs. I think they did the best they could with each movie and I enjoy them all.

I want them to be as accurate as possible, but I know that they have to leave scenes out for example. I only get angry when they mess up the characters like Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire...

I took the question to mean the story line as a whole, at least that should be the same, otherwise, why even call it Harry Potter? If there were more books, I think the filmmakers would have gone so far off tangent with earlier installments (like they have in the past) that is is possible that the story of the films could bear little resemblance to that of the source material.

To put every single thing in the movie as the book, yes I think it would be crazy and way to long. On the other hand though, to be taking key points out of a story is crazy too. Goblet of Fire was that way and I hated it. They didn't explain why or what to anything in that movie.

I wish they would be exactly like the books, but unfortunately, it's really hard to transfer genius as text to genius as media so they have to change some stuff to make it work as a movie :(

If they could have turned it into a BBC miniseries (like Pride & Prejudice w/Colin Firth) that was 6 hours per book, they would have been able to keep 90-95% of it as close to the book as possible. But to make the books into a 2 hour movie ... well, all I ask is that it's at least *close* the books. Please no more shrunken heads!

It's not realistic. No movies ever live up to the books, but they have to make sure to get the key details in so people that haven't read the books can understand. For example, in OOTP, they never had Sirius give Harry that two way mirror. That mirror plays a part in DH and people that did not read the books will not understand. & Dobby, too.
