Oh, I know it...I tried watching the first three movies and then going into the fourth book (thinking I would know what was going on), it didnt work that way. I was so lost I had to go back and read them from the beginning
I like the films but nothing could ever beat the books!! There is so much more detail and much better character development - I just adore the books, can't wait for Deathly Hollows!!
Oh, my. I cannot imagine my life without them. They are some of the most creative and well-written novels I have ever read, and boy do I read a lot. I do not know how JKR does it, makes up this perfect and amazingly detailed new world. I am in constant awe of her mindpower.
I wasn't sure if I would like the movies if I had already read the books, so I will get into reading them after I watch all the films. I usually like books better than their film adaptations.
omg! how can u not read the books, there amazing! i have reread them like a billion time. at the mo. i am reading th 6th.........................again!!!!!!!
No! To be honest I fell asleep on the first page of the the first book of Harry Potter. I am a reader, but fantasy is just not my thing. So, I just watch the movies and my friends who do read the books tell me what's gonna happen.
i just don't understand why are making such a big deal out of it... jeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz, who cares if you have read the books or not... if you're a fan then you're a fan... of course, they probably can't understand all of what is going on but it's their problem and they probably have friends who are telling them why, when, how...i mean, i have friends who really like the movies and haven't read the books and they probably never wont and still i tell them everything what they need...
Well I have read all the books except 7. That's the one I am currently reading. It's awesome that Remus and Tonks get married and their about to have a son. The unfortunate thing is the son is going to be like Remus. So there are going to be two werewolves in the family.
I get the people who are reading them after watching all the films. It's funner not knowing what will happen, and after reading the books, the films never seem as great.
the boxset of the first three books came out when i was 13. i fell in love. i read them all back to back and was so excited because i was the same age as Harry. Unfortunately, J.K. didn't keep up with the one book a year, and i got progressively older when the gang didn't... and now they're 29 (or 30)! LoL
I didnt like the books beforehand (this was before the first movie came out) and i saw the movie and i started to read the books and the rest is history lol.
I didn't like the books at first simply because I'm fad resistent but when the first movie came out my brother's girlfriend now wife made us watch it by the end of the summer(that happened at the beginning of the summer) I had the first three books read and was reading the fourth(5-7 wasn't out yet)
Several times.
I got the box set of the first four for Christmas in 2001, when I was 6. I read them all early in the following year and I've never stopped loving them.
I'd never thought I'd read a book as thick as Philosophers stone so it was a miracle that I even got through Order of the Phoenix let alone the whole series. I love the books I've read them loads and I didn't like reading until I read these books.
As in, I read Prisoner of Azkaban -> Goblet of Fire -> Order of the Phoenix - and then the last two books from the day they were published. I tried to read the first two then, but they didn't hold my interest. And I think I've survived without any misunderstandings or or essential information holes, with only the film versions of those parts. (:

I read each book AT LEAST 4 or 5 times [only the last two books, the rest I read about 10 times each?] and I am currently reading all of them again~ [I'm in the 4th now~ LOL]
To me, reading Harry Potter is.... it's like... going back home. When I want to get away from my own life [like now when I have many exams and everything is just so stressfull T_T], all I need is to pick up this book and go to Hogwarts and everything seems so much better.
Plus, I hate the movies. >>; [I still watch them, but that's mostly because of Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter who are both my favorite actor&actress~]
First, I must say, that your imagination is so much better than what a director edits, crops, and plays onto a screen.
The movies were great, but J.K. Rowling is an incredible author, and I don't think you should be here unless you've had the sensation of turning the pages of a harry potter book, your whole body aching to discover what happens next.
To the people who say that the books were so boring that they fell asleep:
If it was so boring, why bother with the movies? and why are you here? I'm a devoted harry potter fan, and it is appauling to me to see that there are people who think that the story is boring. You simply must allow the author of the book to lay down the plot, introduce the characters, and sketch out the setting.
I'm not sure how you've read any book, unless you gave the author time to do all that.
I would also like to say, that anyone who thinks they can follow harry potter like they know it all by only watching the movies, is wrong. The movies have been altered in extreme ways by the director and screen writer that it's disappointing. They say they're true to the books, but they're not. They especially messed up HP 6. They left out whole important chunks of it, and now HP 7 is going to be almost impossible for anyone to understand. Unless they leave it all out, or edit it to how they see fit. (Which in my opinion, they shouldn't edit it at all, to show that they messed up)
i agree with 11Anime_Fool. Anyone who hasnt read all the books cant be a true fan and the movies are nothing like the books. The books are so detalied and have many little details that are important later on.
ive got all the books at home and have read them all too many times to count :)
I'm glad someone agrees with me. and not to pick on vaso789, but because the movies are so edited, the last book will almost be impossible to comprehend. the information in the movies, and then the last book don't add up. it's almost a lost cause.
I was never a reader and I hadn't read any of the books and around the time of the 5th movie i decided to give em a try and I read them and fell in love with them. They actually fueled a passion because I learned that reading can be great if you find the right book. Now I read alot and it's really thnks to the books. Lol ppl joke around with me now like "Jeez! Another book!" lol i'm not half as bad as my cuzin and bff. Talk about bookworm. they read like a book a day
They make my top seven books, It took me a week to finish all of them the second time, but I was like six when I first read them and before that I was like 3 and my dad read to me the 1st and 2nd. hARRY pOTTER AND TWILIGHT BOOKS ARE THE ONLY BOOKS I CAN READ FAST.
1st book-well written
2nd book-also well written
3rd book-very adventurous (although Ron bugged me all because he thought Hermione's cat ate his rat).
4th book-romance was pointless and everybody was a jerkass to Harry.
5th book-this one is worse. Harry was being a jerk ass to Hermione and Ron because everybody else was acting like a jerk/bitch to Harry. Hermione and Ron were unable to help him because Harry was always separated from them due to the stupid Fudge and that bitchy substitute principal whose name deserves to be in the Burn book.
6th book-a huge improvement on the fifth book. Glad that Hermione/Ron got together. harry/Ginny was random (came out of nowhere) but it still was better than Harry/Cho.
7th book-it had great ideas but they weren't executed properly in the book. Also the happy ending was dull and boring. Sending your kids to a train station 15 years later. What kind of happy ending is that? Rowling should have had the characters throw a celebration party for defeating Voldemort and his followers and a funeral for those who died. Not leave it random and cut to sending your kids to school! That epilouge felt like it was written by an amateur fan girl rather than a professional writer.
Why would I be on this site if I hadn't read the books?
Of course I have read the books!
YOU SUCK BALLS. GET OUT.
AND IF YOU'VE JUST READ 6 AND 7 YOU SUCK HAIRY BALLS.
especially fantasy books
I have them all in DVD
