Harry Potter Vs. Twilight Answers

Idika said:
Dear Lord, you opened a can of worms there. Many people do that and I guess they assume that if others understand them then it doesn't matter how they write it. Moreover, these people (and I'm talking about everyone who uses chat-speak) are accustomed to chatting and so they mostly do it out of force of habit.

I hate it when people write like that. It takes me ten minutes to figure out what they are saying. And it is not only Twilight fans. I think that's an unfair judgment. I have seen many people write like that. Even when I text people they do that. Just because you like something does not make you incapable of spelling. They are just shortcuts. Yea they are annoying. I mean how much longer does it take to type out the whole word? It takes not even half a second. But I do hate how Twilight fans judged and called stupid for liking a book. That is ridiculous to me. Anyone can be stupid or smart. It does not matter what you like. I know extremely smart people who are fans of Twilight. Its unfair to judge based on just that.

I completely agree. Most of the people who like Twilight at my school that I know are in advanced classes, like me. People act like we're reading coloring books, or something. The people who insult Twilight fans most likely just want to make themselves feel like they're better than someone.

Yeah, it probably is. I didn't mean to offend anyone, it's just that I see a lot that do, and it can be rather annoying.

^ I know. I think he reason we see more Twilighters typing like that, is because Twilight is aimed at the demographic who communicate via text and IM most of the time, and think it's really cool to use chatspeak and heaps of emoticons. Obviously, this is only a portion of Twilight fans, but those are the ones who are surfing the Internet a lot and will come across sites like these. On the other hand, the Harry Potter fans who can actuallly be bothered spending time on debate spots are the ones who enjoy debating. Of course there will be a mix of both but people tend to stereotype based on the comments that stand out, ie. the grammatically incorrect ones.

I hate when people think that Twilight fans only talk like that. The following links are from the Harry Potter Spot:

If u had a chance to be a character who would you choose and why?: link

do u think u would love harry potter as much as u do now if hp wasnt made into movies?: link

I SOOOO luv Bellatrix! Do u agree with me?: link

Do u guys reckon that *SPOILER ALERT* Albus Potter wears glasses??: link

why do harry and hermione does became a couple?: link

do you think harry potter is hot??: link

ok i havent read the books so i wanna know if its true that harry dies????????: link

why jk rowling choosed harry and ginnny as a couple and not harry potter: link

Imagine:u have the chance to rewrite the ending..what will u change ?: link

There are many more just in the Answers section, but I'll stop there. But do you see that Twilight fans aren't the only ones who are lazy when it comes to grammar, spelling, and typing, and ask ridiculous questions? So, stop stereotyping all Twilight fans into being 12 year-olds who can't type to save their life, or I'll start stereotyping all HP fans into being pretentious know-it-alls who pretend they are Bellatrix Lastrange, (though I do love HP).

I completely agree, there are a lot of Harry Potter fans who speak like that too. I think we stereotype the Twilight fans as people who can't use the English language properly because, in debates, usually there are a lot of Twitards going into fangirl-spaz-chatspek mode, whereas poeple on the Harry Potter side of the argument tend to write longer explanatory arguments using full words and sentences. I think it's unfair to stereotype, but now that it's there the only thing th Twilight fans can do is just defy the stereotype over and over until it no longer applies.

I didn't know why words are shortend, and I would never pick on anyone, ever. I think you know full well that it was a legit question.

Oh come on, you know that there is NO word limit to answers right? So why shorten words instead of expanding vocabulary?

Theres a full keyboard on a computer/laptop, so people should try to use all the letters on it, otherwise they might as well make a keyboard with all the 'necessary' letters on it. ¬¬

Good question, but this should be directed to Anyone not just Twilighters. I myself find it highly annoying to read understandable or not. If someone asks a question on here& they wrote like that most of the time I don't even answer it. You don't have to use big word or sound really smart but please, please just type like 'normal people'. I mean how you should type/spell. If you talk like that in person whatever but when your on the internet/here its very annoying to many people that have to read it... so please stop, Thank you.

Lol. you guys haven't seen a Filipino talk "jejemon". it's a sort of twisted chat talk where they add all sorts of crazy letters to abbreviated words.

for instance: "eowwz" would mean "Hello". lol. i'm not really an expert at it and i know only a few...(being an English major and all, i try to avoid it) but it became a fad here for some time and i tell you, it was headache inducing just trying to understand one sentence with all those crazily spelled words.. hehe i just wanted to share.
