Harry Potter Vs. Twilight Question

Challenge for Harry Potter fans *and* Twihards!

Okay, so I'm just curious to hear everyone's opinions about these things and it's also a bit of a challenge. Oh, and this works better if you're don't love both of them.

Harry Potter fans - think of 3 *real* good things about the Twilight series ('real', meaning it can't be, it taught girls not to follow Bella's example and go emo, or anything) and then think of 3 real things about Harry Potter that you think are genuine plot/writing flaws. Finally, list five characters in Twilight who you actually like and why you like them.

Twilight fans - exactly the opposite :) Think of 3 good things about the Harry Potter series, and then 3 things about Twilight that you think are genuine plot/writing flaws. Then, list five characters in Harry Potter who you like and why you like them.

I'll start: I'm a Harry Potter fan, and so the three good things about Twilight are (I think)
1. it shows the power of romantic love (even though I think it's lust, it's the thought that counts haha)
2. Even if it works out happily, it does have a good amount of unrequited love which, in my opinion, is one of the most powerful forms of love.
3. it represents, even in a sort of sick form, the power of a mother's love for her baby even before it's born.

I just realize all three of those were about love, but Twilight is basically just a love story so....

And now my three flaws of Harry Potter would be:
1. The epilogue. It read like JKR hadn't even written it, because I didn't think she was capable of that amount of cheese until I read the ending chapter of Deathly Hallows.
2. While the Hallows story was interesting and certainly had a part in the plot of DH, JKR could've done a lot more with it and incorporated the stone and the cloak more into the final showdown.
3. It's not much of a severe writing flaw, but I'm getting desperate here so I'll use it anyway: I was really intrigued about Bill and Charlie Weasley, but while they had their distinct personalities, they were

Three real things about Twilight:
1. It teaches people to become dedicated to their other half
2. It widens younger children's vocabulary
3. It also teaches that you should stand up for what you believe it.

Three HP flaws:
1. HARRY LIVES ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!! (sorry, I just really needed to say that.)
2. I felt that Rowling should've gone more into the Trio's personal day-to-day life more, like how they acted buddy-buddy jokey and stuff.
3. Rowling should've explained more about why Lily chose douchebag Potter. I really want to know why someone would love a person who hates on your best friend.

1.Jacob Black- He was a really nice person before he went all wolf-man.
2.Carlisle- OK I get to express my inner Twilight fan here: He is freaking sexy. Sorry, had to say it.
3. Leah Clearwater- Because she's a female wolf, that's cool.
4. Jasper Hale- I liked his back story, it was quite intriguing.
5. Renesmee- OK, I know everyone like hates her, but I always liked the idea of her, being this cute little baby who can put images into your mind. How cool is that?!

I get your point about #3 HP flaws, but as a writer, I like that it's all really mysterious how Lily ended up with James :) It makes it possible for all sorts of fanfic...I agree with everything else you said though :)

Well, Harry IS the Boy-Who-Lived. Not the Boy-Who-Dies-At-Last-Minute xD

No I mean how JKR always had these back up reasons on why Harry didn't die everytime he came in contact with Voldemort: Hallows, the wand cores, I mean, it's all kind of lame.

Three things about twilight:
1. It showed how moving houses and schools isn't as scary as it seems to be.
2. Differences can be set aside for the greater good. (shit, sounded like Dumbledore then. sorry!)
3. umm... let me get back to you on that.

Three things about Harry Potter:
1. Since Harry survived because Lily defended him and gave her own life for him, shouldn't the same have happened with her and James?
2. In the Goblet of Fire, Harry learned the Accio charm, so he could've just used it on the egg, because it never said that it was protected with charms, just with the dragon.
3. once again, let me get back to you on that. I have one in my head, but every time I try to think it, it slips away. It's really quite frustrating.

Five twilight characters:
1. Esme- because, even though she didn't do much and we didn't learn that much about her, you can tell that she cares for her family.
2. Carlisle- because he had the kindness to not be like the rest of his race, and survive off the blood of animals rather than humans.
3. Jacob- because he could help bella even when he knew that he was pretty much just a replacement for edward.
4. Lauren- because she wasn't immediately fawning over bella, and had enough of a clear mind to be able to think for herself. (snaps for her!)
5. Leah- because she could still live through her heartbreak that happened between her and Sam...

That second thing about HP, it's interesting... I wonder if saying "Accio egg" woyld have worked. It's so simple yet no one thought of it...

But James didn't get a chance to fight Voldy, he tried to but he had no wand, and Voldemort killed him. Lily had the time to beg and beg for Voldemort to forgive Lily, and remember, he didn't have to kill her. He had to kill James and Harry, but Lily was supposed to survive.

I am a Potterhead, but, as I have mentioned (sp?) before, I don't HATE it ( I just deeply, deeply, dis-like it...)

Three good things about Twilight:
1.It teaches and shows that you should be married to your partner before you have any kind of...physical approach?
2.It shows how far love can go.
3. Jacob Black.( I love Jacob!!)
I am going to list 4!!
4. Edward's mood change. He goes from angry to happy in one sentence, and I find it hilarius!! (sp?)

Flaws in Harry Potter:
1. The egg in the Tri wiz could have been accio-ed
yes, I knows someone already said that, but it is still a flaw.
2.Why does Dumbledore put on the Gount ring? Isn't he all cool with his theories and stuff?
3.Umm... SPOILER ALERT: FRED WEASLEY DIES!!!

I like:
1.Jacob Black, because he is still Bella's friend after he finds out about her and Edward. AND he's funny.
2.Seth because he is just AWESOME!
3. Charlie, even though I think no dad acts like him, he is still funny.
Mike: He is soo stupid!! and funny.
4.Emmett because in the book he is actually REAL. Someone might actually act like him.
5.Alice, she is Un- real and sometimes annoying, but she can be very awesome at times.
that's pretty much it!!! I have read all the TW books including the new one "short life of Bree Tanner" or something

I'm a Twilight fan. :)

Harry Potter:

1) J.K Rowling's dream of publishing this series has evidently come true :)
2) It's for all age groups; children, teens, adults.
3) It can expend one's imagination.

Twilight:
1) I didn't like how Meyer portrayed the battle between the Cullens, werewolves, and other covens and the Volturi. It wasn't a battle, it was ONLY a discussion.
2) It's a small one, but I noticed how Stephenie called Bella's history teacher, "Mr. Jefferson". I think a little more imagination and creativity on small details like that always helps. :)
3) I sometimes think her use of vocabulary goes a little overboard. I understand that an extensive vocabulary in your story always helps, but there is a limit there.

Harry Potter Characters:
1) Ron Weasley - He's hilarious. xD
2) Severus Snape - To me, he's a Harry Potter version of Rosalie Hale. Rough on the outside, warm on the inside with a story that explains why. I like that in characters :)
3) Dumbledore - I just really liked his personality. :)
4) Harry Potter - He's brave, intelligent, caring, and isn't afraid of going against anything.
5) I'm stuck between Hagrid and Draco - Hagrid because he appears funny and I like his acent (lol), Draco because he's bad. That's all there is to it. I like bad. :)

No, that wasn't all off, though when someone says 'Draco is bad...' I wonder if the.. ah... events atop the Astronomy Tower would have any different if the Death Eaters hadn't barged in...

I'm a Harry Potter fan.

The three good things about Twilight:

1) It got kids/teens reading more.
2) Stephenie Meyer (for better or worse) created a new type of vampire.
3)There is a lot of love, in some shape and form.

The three flaws in Harry Potter
1) She (JK) had a lot of characters that had so much potential that she didn't use as much as she should/could have.
2) The epilogue. She had ninteen years worth of information that she could have incorporated into it. While I'm glad the four got their "happy endings," I felt it was too short and didn't do much to show how the world had changed.
3) The Deathly Hallows. While the Elder Wand was a big part of the plot, the other two were highly underdeveloped and used. She should have either, cut them out entirely, or incorperated them into the story more. Especially the stone.

The five characters (bear with me, I haven't read the books in a while):
Leah- She's a very independent, saucy girl who's not afraid to get let it all out.
Carslile (sp?)- Hes very caring. Instead of letting all his "family" die, he gave them a choice, and then turned them all, giving them a second chance at life. In a way.
Emmett - He's funny and protective.
Alice- She's very understanding and protective of those she cares about.
Charlie - He's there for Bella, always standing by her and supporting her, even when he doesn't agree with her decisions.

Twilight:
1. Twilight showed to love someone before they were born. (When Bella was going to give birth to Nessie)
2. It showed that if you love someone enough, then you'd give your life up for them. (If you can call lust love :P)
3. "United we stand, divided we fall."

Harry Potter:
1. Why did Lily choose James. It should've gone into detail.
2. The Epilogue was kind of cheesy.
3. Kind of hoped for some info on what happened to the Malfoys....

Characters:
Jane- She showed that she cared about her coven... family...
Seth- He at least tried to be friends with the Cullens.
Angela- She was the smartest female I saw in the series, though it didn't really show it...
Tyler's van- It almost killed Bella :( But not Tyler because he apologized :P
Romanian Coven- They wanted to fight the Volturi in Breaking Dawn.

OK. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, but did enjoy Twilight for a bit...

So 3 Good Things about Twilight:
1. It shows even with change you could still be friends with someone
2. To look past prejudices
3. How strong love could be?

Flaws with Harry Potter:
1. *Spoiler* Fred Weasley Dying was totally unnecessary. She even said that was to compensate for Authur not dying in the 5th book. I'm pretty sure Authur dying wouldn't be so bad... least for me. STICK TO THE ORIGINAL PLAN JKR!
2. I wish she would've gone more indepth about The Veil that Sirius went through. I've always wondered about that.
3. I wish they would've shown the average day lives. Because it would've been nice to see what wizards do in down time especially with the Twins.
4. (Because I was stretching some others) OK. Am I the only person who wishes there was some more fights with the Dursley's? Or more Dursleys exposed to magic in the 7th book in it? They were a big part of the series. I wanted to see if they got what they deserved!
*This isn't an excuse, but this made me realize even more, that Harry Potter is more of a "What do you think? You tie up the loose ends." Type story. And a lot of those were stretches, but just irked me a bit that I would've loved to read.

Twilight Characters:
1. Alice- Her bubbly personality
2. Emmett- His blunt and sarcastic humor
3. Jasper- I have no clue. I like him though.
4. Seth- He's like the baby of them all.
5. Leah- She's a werewolf. A girl. And not going to bend to the will of a guy. (OK. Kinda sorta, but not really...)

Good stuff about Twilight:
1. The book covers are nice.
2. Uh, it's advertising a small town, which is good for tourism and whatnot.
3. Bedward imitated Bangel, and imitation is the best form of flattery.

HP flaws:
1. Dobby died! :(
2. How the f*ck did Neville end up with Hannah Abbott?
3. I felt as if the whole Bill/Fleur thing was a little rushed.

5 Twilight characters that I liked:
1. Rosalie Hale- She was possibly the only sane sparklepire of them all.
2. Pre-BD Jacob- I can't get enough of sarcatic characters, ya know?
3. Angela Webber- She was smart and normal(ish).
4. Leah- She was awesome. Nuff said.
5. Seth- an all-round good egg. XB

I'm a HP fan so here are 3 good things about Twilight:

1. It shows that sometimes, the people you like can like you back
2.It teaches you to never walk around an unfamiliar place at night alone...Though, you should already know that from second grade.
3. It teaches you the extent a mother will go to to protect her child

Three things I didn't like about Harry Potter:

1. That James got a happy ending (a one he really didn't deserve), while Severus didn't. I mean, James practically ruined Severus' childhood/teen years beacause of his house. And he gets the girl. That's not fair.
2.Ron's hardly ever in the spotlight. It's always Harry. And Hermione's the smart one. Plus Ron is always overshadowed by his brothers and friends.
3. At the end of the Philosopher's (Sorceror's) Stone, Dumbledore gave Gryffindor their points during the Feast. That isn't fair. The Slytherins may be mean, but that doesn't give him a right to get their hopes up and crush them. I hate how everything always conveniently works out for Gryffindor. He could have at least made them come second!

Here are five characters I like from Twilight:

1. Lauren mallory-She isn't described very often. Her only line in the entire series is "Oh joy, Bella's back." She's only said to be mean and people call her a slut only because she didn't fawn over Bella when she first moved her!
2. Jessica Stanley-She went with Bella to the movies after the latter was in zombie mode and ignored her existance for four months. And instead of running away when Bella was talking to those four guys in Port Angeles, she stayed with her. Can you really blame her for not liking her?
3. Rosalie Hale-She has the best background, and a great reason to hate Bella.
4. Jane-She has an awesome power and awesome job. Plus, she got to torturs Edward. And she gets angry easily and likes pain...LIKE ME!
5. Seth Clearwater-He seems fun. Sorry, but i couldn't think of a fifth person and he's the first who came to mind.

HecateA said:
1. It got a lot of people reading
2. It got Stephenie Meyer rich & fameous
3. It got some actors pretty fameous (Robert P was good enough being Cedric do ): )

1. When they fix the memory of the deatheaters in totenham court, Hermione says "I've never done it before", but in the chapter "The ghoul in pajamas" she says that's what she did to her parents to keep them safe
2. I wish I'd seen more Charlie, because Charlie is awesome.
3. The twins should've been at Hogwarts instead of at their aunt Muriel's, to, you know, put on graffiti and such. I just think that would've been awesome.

1 Leah. I mean common! She's so cool, one of the only ones most antis can agree on is cool, and while evrybody else finds a prince charming, she stays in her state of heartloss. I say screw Renesmee, let her be a kid, and after Jacob runs out of the Cullen house angry, she catches up to him and kisses him. But then he wouldn't stay friends with the Cullens blah-di-blah, well how about he is thankfull because he got to know Leah and figures, the kid's not so bad.

2.Quil. I just really like his name (writting quill?)
3. Carlisle. Because he's helpful and hasn't done nothing wrong in general.
4. Alice. She's mjust so dam cheerfull and pixie-ish! (not talking about the sparkling)
5. Zafrina. Her power is freaking cool!

I agree with the whole Leah thing! She's bloody brilliant and I don't know why on earth Jake had to end up with Renesmee when Leah was right THERE? Maybe Jacob could be the only werewolf/shapeshifter who never imprints on anyone. It would have made me a BIT happier with Breaking Dawn :-S
