Hailey Potter was no ordinary girl. She was a witch, and twin sister to the most famous wizard of all time. Said wizard was right next to her, their father's old Invisibility Cloak spread across their laps.
"I wonder why Dumbledore gave the Cloak to me," Harry asked, running his hand across the fabric.
"Probably because you're the oldest," Hailey answered, looking down at her hands.
"Nah, that's not likely. You're the more sensible one."
"I'm not more sensible, I just pick my own fights."
"Wish we had a way to find out."
"There might be a portrait of them somewhere."
Harry snorted. "Yeah, like at the house that practically blew up when I got this," he retorted, jabbing at the scar.
Hailey said nothing. She hated it when he brought up that night. Dumbledore had once told her that she got her talent that night. Apparently, Voldemort's Killing Curse activated some ancient Potter spell. She had made a point to look up the spell, but didn't have much luck.
There were so many things she wanted to ask her parents. She knew Harry had questions too. She could sense themswarming in his mind. So many unanswered questions.
<I wish we could talk to them, just once,> she thought, pulling the Cloak up to rub against her cheek. Hailey closed her eyes, wondering what their parents were really like.
There was a bang, and a flash of scarlet light that jerked the Potter twins from the respective thoughts.
In front of them stood a man with untidy black hair and round glasses. The corner of his mouth was turned up in the same smirk Hailey had seen Harry use so many times. Next to the man was a woman. She looked almost identical to Hailey, except her hair was neater and a brighter red. Her green eyes flashed.
Behind the round glasses, the man winked one hazel eye, identical to Hailey's. Somehow, her longing brought them out of the past.
"Hello, kids," the man said. Both twins stood there in shock.
"But…how?" Harry stammered, jumping to his feet to hug their father.
"Someone has had a curious fascination with our family for some time," their mother said, by way of explanation. "We've been sent back to explain a few things."
Hailey stayed on the couch, more skeptical than her brother.
"We only have a few hours," Dad said, checking his watch.
"Which of us is older? It's bugged us ever since Harry got the Cloak."
It was Mum that answered. "Harry, by about ten minutes." She sat down next to Hailey and hugged her. "You were just so eager to follow him. No sooner had the nurses gotten Harry cleaned up and there you were." She lauged. Hailey only managed a small smile.
"What about Hailey's talent?" Harry blurted out.
"That is the result of an ancient Potter spell. If any Potter is in danger, the spell causes the Potter closest to him or her to sense the troubled one's thoughts. Since you're closest to Harry, the spell would have affected you, Hailey, the moment Voldemort lifted his wand against him."
"How long does it last?" Hailey asked, voicing one of Harry's questions.
"We're not really sure. It's never been activated for so long or so early."
The family spent most of their remaining time together catching up.
At the very end of that time, Hailey remembered something. She jabbed Harry in the ribs with her elbow, making him remember as well.
"Hey, Mum," she said, trying to seeminnocent.
"What is it, Hailey?"
