The DVDs and Blu-rays look fantastic as usual, and it’s great that they’re putting them out earlier. Since the show is delayed in being released, there’s no sense in holding back, might as well get them out in time for that holiday rush. Plus we’ll have some great bonus features, new histories and lore, and assorted audio commentaries to tide us over until the new season next summer.

We don’t have to wait until the next season to get the Blu-ray set? That is fantastic!
Streaming is nice, but for my favorite shows and movies, nothing beats the high fidelity of Blu-ray or UHD….
Hopefully with yet another Best Drama Emmy sticker in the package 😉
The Histories and Lore!!!!! Always my favorite segment of these things.
Holy shit, those are some good stories in the History&Lore
Will go nicely with my collection, especially the season 3 box set blu-ray autographed by Isaac (Bran) and Kristian (Hodor)!!
Finally some good news. The dvd looks so good I can’t wait. All of the features look exiting. How cool that Meera is narrating the Tourney at Harrenhall considering she is the one telling the story in the books.Plus it makes sense to put it this season. The commentaries look great especially nine and ten. Can’t wait to hear all of them. And watch the deleted scenes. One of them must be Brienne and Sansa talking about Tormund that’s got to be hillarious lol
This is some really great news! Awesome!
I can’t imagine watching it any other way. It is such a beautiful show.
This is great news! I’ve been wishing they’d done this all along. I have a friend that I usually lend my set to for her to watch and she’ll be thrilled.
Question… Does this mean that streaming services like Vudu that typically carry it will have it available on August 1st or do they need to wait until November 15th?
At long last, we’re getting it when it should be released!
The “Histories and Lore” this season is completely unbelievable. Probably the strongest yet. And the number of commentaries is just bonkers!
Wow. What a package we’ll get this season.
I’m surprised that Maisie isn’t doing a commentary or narration. Hasn’t she done a commentary every season?
Terrific news. And cool that Essie Davis contributes to the commentaries.
I’m a bit upset we won’t get another commentary with the Stark kids together for an episode.
histories & lore are mostly what I anticipated…
but I thought we’d get “House Mormont” not “Norther Allegiances to House Stark”….
…well maybe it’s a super-sized very long one, including any Mormont material.
The “Tier A” core cost members are Jon, Daenerys, Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, Sansa, Arya. Of these, Jon, Jaime, and Sansa have narrated videos (as have Robb and Bran). So we’re still waiting on Daenerys, Tyrion, Arya.
…”Summer Sea”? Wow…I’ve always hoped they’d devote a video to “okay, here are the islands of the Summer Sea that the show doesn’t really visit which have non-white people in them: Summer Islands, Naath, Basilisk Isles, and Sothoryos”. I guess they used Euron because he’s a character we know who probably *traveled* to each of them personally (Missandei is from Naath but hasn’t been to all the others). So that’s good.
On first glance a robert’s rebellion by Jaime seemed redundant…..but I think maybe it will actually focus on the fact that *he knew Rhaegar*; that flashback scene from the novels when he begged Rhaegar to let him come to the Trident but he couldn’t. Also because we actually had a brief Bran flashback of Jaime actually killing Aerys.
“Riverrun”? Don’t quite see the need….maybe it will span the gap for Brynden between Season 3 and 6. Well, still good to have more Blackfish!
I never thought we’d get another Tourney at Harrenhal after Barristan’s last year but it makes sense to have Meera narrate it given that her father was there.
I’m stunned they got Max von Sydow to narrate one. Epic.
Was hoping for Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont) for Bear Island and House Mormont though!
It’s a bit of a bummer that Emilia Maisie Carice Isaac Gwen or Alfie couldn’t make the commentaries but on the other hand my boys Davos and Edd together give it to me.Plus Miguel Sophie and Kit and D&D Lena and Peter are going to be so much fun.
Surprised Maisie isn’t doing a commentary. Especially for 608.
Well, this is a sweet surprise to wash away the bitter news we got earlier today!
Love seeing all of those commentaries – I believe it’s the first time we’re getting one for every single episode! And some of this year’s installments in the Histories & Lore section sound exceptional.
narrated by Ellie Kendrick? Yes, please (Nice little nod to Meera being the one who tells that story in ASOS). The story of the Children versus the First Men as narrated by Max von Sydow should be awesome as well. And I’m very curious to hear the one about the Sunset Sea, especially in light of Arya openly wondering
I’m also looking forward to the deleted scenes (even though, with one or two rare exceptions, I tend to understand and appreciate why they were deleted). Already got November 15th circled on my calendar!
Really looking forward to the “18 Hours at the Paint Hall” feature.
She must have had a conflict or something so Essie Davis stepped in.
This is quite a haul and I can’t wait for it. Especially the 4 deleted scenes. I know there’s usually a reason why they’re deleted but I still love seeing them anyway.
No isaac? Even for episode 5? Not even going to use Bran for any of the histories and lore narrations? Really??????????? What the hell does a guy have to do to get some recognition for once?
I’m going to be all over this! I can’t wait until this comes out!
I doubt Davis stepped in in lieu of Maisie; probably they would have wanted both of them. I’d also guess they wanted Rory McCann on the 607 track, but he wasn’t available.
A surprising number of major cast absences this year from the commentaries, but then, the commentaries are pretty clearly recorded within a relatively narrow space of time, and anybody whose schedule doesn’t allow them to be there correspondingly doesn’t do one.
Given the delayed release of Season 7, I figure they must have concluded delaying the release of the Blu-ray any further would just be commercially unwarranted.
Looking forwards the deleted scenes, especially the one where Sansa is supposed to tease Brienne regarding Tormund’s looks.
No Emilia for her huge episodes 4/9/10 is really bizarre too.
In interviews, director Jack Bender stated that they filmed *a lot* more of “The Bloody Hand” play than they actually aired, and planned to put them on the DVD release.
on-screen, we only saw their version of “Season 1” and the beginning of “Season 4”. But other parts would cover the events of Seasons 2 and 3.
I thought it might be a special feature like the “Dance of the Dragons” thing on the last DVD.
But the point is, sometimes we get a “deleted scene” which is only 60 seconds long and totally forgettable.
This time….from Bender’s comments, we might get a 5 minute long chunk of the play which was omitted purely for time constraints.
Wouldn’t worry about that. He probably didn’t have the time to do them. Could be another project or simply school. Same goes for Maisie. But he is going to be on Comic Con panel for the first time.
The show typically doesn’t bother including really minor bits on the DVDs, from what I recall. The show has few deleted scenes overall.
Incidentally, looking at the art for the first time, I like (what we can see of) the solo character images inside packaging. I do find it a little odd, though, that the exterior art so prominently features the faces of characters who aren’t in this season. Obviously, it’s the pre-season art, but still.
OMG! Bittersweet news!! …As far as I learned from Game of Thrones (TV SERIES) Whenever a character gets to narrate this stories, they are or will be death really soon… so I can´t say I feel happy to find out that most of my favourites characters will be dying during 2017 seventh season while winter has come! For starting the ones I have more expectations are :
Lady Sansa Stark and Sir Jaime Lannister!!! I felt that their finally get their redemption time and maybe they leave us doing something brave!! but they are out of time (at least for me and if you dont believe me please review the stories that already have been realease and tell me who is still alive?)
Shocking to find that Lord Varys is on the list too!! I know he did everything that was possible for the good of the realm and play it behind the scenes and save Tyrion and unfortunatelly couldn´t help our most precious one, Ned Stark! …but having him death? This will make me shed most than one tear that is for sure…
Nothing will give me more pleasure to see Petyr Baelish death! I can´t wait to see him dying, I’m thinking he will be murdered by someone who is seeking for revange.. I can think in the young lord of the vale to avange his father and mother assasinations lead by this piece of little finger! or maybe Sansa will do it and she also dies on this matter, she is not a killer after all..
Regarding Sir Jorah at least we are prepare for his definetalley fare well, we all know he is ill and we expect he can recover from this non cure desease but if he can not achieve the cure, it it will be sad but ok, at least he lives his life fully, at least he had his time to redeem himself, at least he told his Khalessi he loves her… I picturing his death defending Daenerys from Euron Greyjoy or something really bad, even if we don´t see him anymore, his story is almost done. Thoros of Myr is on the list too! What would happen? a death combat fight? the lord of light have his soul save.
And Euron Greyjoy will be death, at least on the TV series they do not develop much of his character but we can tell he is not the nicest person alive.. I expect he will be murdered by Yara or Theon to avange their late father…
Pardon my english! Love the blog all the way from Lima Peru
The Great Tourney at Harrenhal: narrated by Meera Reed (Ellie Kendrick)
While we don’t yet know what exactly this covers, this would seem to bode ill for people speculating/hoping that events relating to this will be shown in flashback next season.
Woohoo!!! Finally something to get excited about! All the features sound absolutely glorious & they have paired the actors for the commentaries almost perfectly. I love when Lena & Peter do a commentary together & Kit & Sophie commenting on episode 9 together is a dream come true. Can’t be more for excited for this & its coming out just in time for my birthday! Yay! 🙂
Never thought they would show it anyway.Too big and too much trouble for so a story people already heard. If they want to establish Lyanna and Rhaegar as a couple a quiet scene between them in the Tower of Joy talking or whatever can do the trick just the same
I never thought so either, given the expense (and time limitations).

On the top of my head Bran, Jon, Jorah, Littlefinger and Meera have all narrated and are still alive! 🙂 Of course that doesn’t mean that you can stop worrying.
Vanessa: Whenever a character gets to narrate this stories, they are or will be death really soon
Huh. I hadn’t noticed such a thing. Perhaps it’s just coincidence with having so many people killed off. If it is the case they’re getting down there on the number of major characters. If all of these living ones go in season 7 that’s a big blow. Every one of them do seem to be likely targets though. They’ve had (or will have) major roles in how the story has progressed but don’t feel like pieces that need to be there at the very end.
No Jon cover? This is very disappointing, considering the fact that this was supposed to be his big season. Think I’ll pass.
Only interested in Meera narrating the Tourney at Harrenhall and the House Dayne clip.
“Northern Allegiances to House Stark: narrated by Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)”
War of the Ninepenny Kings: narrated by Brother Ray (Ian McShane)
Hey, maybe all you nutbars will finally get the full broken man speech in Ian’s narration! 😛
That’s what I was thinking as well. The conversation could also reveal far more information than the tourney imo.
Yeah that’s what I would like.It could clear up their relationship and what Rhaegar’s intentions were regarding prophecy and all that in just a few sentences
Sweet! But come on you know you got to wait for that Series Collection!! I go back and forth about whether or not its even worth buying it… since HBOgo and all but im sure i will kick over the cash for that master collection.
Picture/sound quality of these blus is always outstanding.
Flayed Potatoes: “Northern Allegiances to House Stark: narrated by Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)”
I thought the same thing when I read it. It goes something like this:
“House Glover is pledged to House Stark, sworn to answer when called upon…. Uhh, no matter what has happened. House Mormont… They’re led by Lady Lyanna Mormont. She was named for my aunt Lyanna. Her mother was a great beauty. My brother Robb beheaded Lord Karstark, but Northerners are different and more loyal so House Karstark will support House Stark…. The North remembers the Stark name and they’ll risk everything for it.”
I hope Conleth Hill does a commentary one day.
Emilia Clarke must have the world’s most incredible agent. She’s now the highest paid person on the show and never has to do any of these commentaries anymore or appear at conventions anymore either. That’s pretty good negotiating by whoever represents her.
What is this that Emilia is the highest paid actor?I though all five a-tier cast were paid the same as has been reported several times.I very much doubt that she is paid more than Peter Dinklage in any case.
One of the deleted scenes will probably be Olenna shouting at Mace as reported during filming. one is Sansa and Brienne I wonder what the other two will be. Probably unimportant though. Although seeing Kevan a bit more would be nice.
I have died and gone to fantasy story heaven…
