12 \'Game of Thrones\' characters who died on the show before the books
Game of Thrones has been added to your favorites.
There\'s been a lot of talk about how "Game of Thrones" Season 5 will start passing the story of George R.R. Martin\'s novels, and a result of that is characters will die who aren\'t yet dead in the books. April 12\'s premiere made that promise of deviations hit home, as Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) was murdered at the stake despite the fact he still had book story to tell.
But his TV show death isn\'t the first one that "Game of Thrones" dealt out prematurely. Here is a list of all the characters who died on the HBO fantasy series before their time was up in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels.
Mance was burned at the stake for refusing to bend a knee to Stannis Baratheon. Jon Snow shoots him with an arrow to put him out of his misery.
Melisandre used a glamour to pretend Mance was burning, but put someone else in his place. Jon later sends him on a covert mission to Winterfell.
Gradually declining in his health, Jojen got attacked by skeleton creatures in front of the Three-Eyed Raven\'s tree and was stabbed multiple times. His sister Meera slit his throat to end his misery.
Jojen made it into the Three-Eyed Raven\'s hideout, but beyond that his fate is unclear. There is a theory that he died and was turned into paste, that Bran later ate.
Grenn died in his fight defending Castle Black gate from a giant, but did kill the creature in the process.
Still alive at the Wall, Grenn continues as a member of the Night\'s Watch.
During the Wildlings attack on Castle Black, Pyp was shot by one of Ygritte\'s arrow and died.
Like Grenn, Pyp is still alive at the Wall and serves as a member of the Night\'s Watch.
As one of the lives Jaqen H\'ghar owed her, Arya Stark has him kill the Tickler at Harrenhal.
Arya killed The Tickler at the Inn at the Crossroads while traveling with the Hound. In the show, she killed Polliver -- another one of the Mountain\'s lackeys who died in the book\'s version of the fight -- in a similar manner.
Talisa was one of the many victims of the Red Wedding. She was stabbed in the stomach by a Frey, killing both her and her unborn child.
Jeyne is still alive in the books, and will be a character in the prologue of the upcoming "The Winds of Winter."
Catelyn Stark slit the throat of Walder Frey\'s youngest wife in reaction to him having his men kill her son Robb Stark.
Last Joyeuse was heard from was in book 4, "A Feast for Crows," and she was pregnant with Walder\'s baby.
Technically not dead, Daenerys locked Xaro Xhoan Daxos in a vault in Qarth with the expectation he would die.
Still alive, Xaro visits Dany in Meereen. He warns her of many threats, and reveals that Qarth declared war with her.
After stealing Daenerys\' dragons and bringing them to the House of the Undying, she has her children burn Pyat Pree alive, thus allowing her to leave the enchanted building.
Pyat Pree remains a threat to Daenerys, and one who her advisors warn her to be watchful of.
In Season 2, Rakharo was killed and decapitated by a rival khalasar during a scouting mission.
Rakharo is still alive and serving Daenerys in Meereen.
In a  deleted Season 2 scene, Irri was strangled to death by Doreah after she found Daenerys\' dragons missing.
Like Rakharo, Irri is still alive in Meereen, where she serves her khaleesi.
Mago was killed by Khal Drogo after he insulted him.
As a member of Jhaqo\'s khalasar, Mago eventually reappears in George R.R. Martin\'s novels.
