Even though I hate Ceffy with a burning passion, it made Effy realize that she couldn't struggle against her love for Freddie. It was kind of a catalyst.

I do understand WHY the triangle was needed, why it was there and the point of it was to show how Effy would try to hide from her feelings for Freddie but never be able to and how they would never give up on each other, but... Ceffy was a total waste of screen time and Cook's character, in my opinion. Seeing meaningless CE sex only to see how Cook then would hurt his best friend and become so obsessed with Effy (for NO reason whatsoever) that he would turn into a whiny, abusive, posessive lost person with no character growth was painfull. Not to mention how boring and annoying it was. Both Effy and Cook looked bad at different points, all because of the triangle and their affair. So as hard as I tried to tolerate it, I couldn't. Ceffy should have ended before 3X05, Cook should not have standed in a way of his friend's love especially after he 100 procents knew that Effy loves Freddie and not him ("She loves YOU, man, but she can't stand love so she f*cks me instead"). Cook should have ended this affair, got a character evolation and be a good friend for Freddie. None of it happened because of this ridiculous triangle and it destroyed Frook. Ugh.

ikr! Cook has always considered Effy as a sexdoll and taken her for granted. When he realized that Effy would never be fully his, he tried to do anything to win her back, without even paying attention to Freddie's feelings. His BEST FRIEND since they were kids. I don't remember if he ever apologized. Many times I was practically yelling at my screen :"for god's sake Cook, get over her!!"
This love triangle should have ended in series 3 imo, with effy chosing freddie over cook.

^ THIS! All of it. Cook didn't take his affair with Effy anywhere near seriously and had sex with other girls - Pandora for example - before he realized that Effy has deep feelings for Freddie and will never belong to him. And Cook did everything to stand in a way of FE, treating his BEST friend like crap and even enjoying seeing his pain. Cook fed Effy up with cliched lines like "It's you and me, it's always you and me", knowing that it was never him and her & never will be, but he still couldn't stand a thought that Effy can go for Freddie instead of him so he did everything to take Effy away from Freddie. Then when Effy finally found a will to choose Freddie over him, Cook throwed a pity party for himself and blamed Freddie for everything. WTF?! Freddie never took Effy from Cook, it was her decision and since then Freddie broke his back to make things easier for Cook. Cook on the other hand could only whine, blame Freddie and backstab him, all because of a girl who didn't even want him and whom he was obsessed with for no reason absolutelly. Cook's character was DESTROYED because of the "triangle", Frook friendship was destroyed and Cook never got any growth in S4. That is the main reason why I think the triangle should have ended in S3. And NEVER be ressurected.

Cook...blamed Freddie for everything.

GOD, how much that pissed me off. Cook was ALWAYS playing the game of "Who's gonna win Effy?" but Freddie, unlike Cook, didn't play any game AT ALL. Cook comes up to Freddie with his "you broke my heart, man"..... but Cook was the first to break Freddie's heart. He basically tore it into pieces and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Exactly. I will never stop being mad at Cook and at writers for blaming it ALL on Freddie while it was Cook who broke Freddie's heart in the first place. And he not just broke it - he enjoyed seeing Freddie's pain, he even smiled at it (I can't even rewatch window scene because all of it disgusts me). Cook kept this affair with Effy going even when he KNEW (and admitted to know it all alone) that she loved Freddie and that Freddie loved her. Then Effy willingly chose Freddie over him and Freddie wanted Cook's approval, he was desperate to still stay Cook's friend, he never enjoyed Cook's pain and wanted to make things easier for him. That is the biggest difference between Cook and Freddie and the kind of people they are.
