Last July, showrunner Noah Hawley revealed they were looking at a three-year wait for new episodes, but while FX chief John Landgraf then said earlier this year that they were aiming for a 2019 launch, Hawley himself has now said that making that window would be a "long shot".

"I think realistically we will certainly be filming it next year," Hawley told

before stressing that filming the series in 2019 doesn\'t guarantee its air date that same year.

"Mostly just because it\'s a winter show. You know, I have to write [the episodes], then we have to prep it, then we have to film it, which means it\'s either this coming winter or next winter," he added.

"Given my schedule with making a movie and posting a movie this summer, and then gearing up to do more

, assuming we get a pickup. It seems like a long shot that I can launch

Of course, FX hasn\'t officially ordered another season of

just yet, but hopefully that\'ll be set to change now that Hawley has confirmed he has a very strong idea for the season taking form.
