^^^ Right. A quick search of key words easily brings up pre-existing picks. Additionally, so long as it isn't said in an impolite manner, folks are generally trying to get people to recognize the original as well.

EDIT: Being lazy is not an excuse. Obviously you have enough energy to make the pick. Doesn't take as much to search for it.

I think it's actually pretty obnoxious. I swear, it's like some people are out there looking for other picks just to say "This is a repeat, see <link> and <link>." Of course a quick search never hurts, but it's not all-encompassing. It's one thing for just one person to point out that it's a repeat, but I really hate it when like dozens of other people gang up on the pick-maker and say "UGH I hate repeat picks" and that kind of stuff. If you're not going to say anything nice, don't say anything.

But that's just me.

:\ well people need to say it so the maker understands to go and search first before they make the pick.

Oh and "lazy" is a pathetic excuse. If you can put time into clicking to make it then typing the question then typing responses, etc, you should have time to just type some words in the search box. Of course people will get on your case about making repeat things if you're "too lazy".

If this was a repeat pick (as far as I'm aware it's not)I'd be telling you so.

You ask how you are supposed to remember all the picks and then add that you're too lazy to look.
If that's your reasoning, why should users have to be subjected to the same questions time after time?
As Cinders stated, if you can make a pick then you should be able to see if it already exists first.

I find it funny how people completely over-look a strong arguement:

Then the next person to comment completely ignores the intelligent points: Yes it's [people notifying about repeat picks] so annoying.

i dont mind the repeats per se as much as i mind that sort of " meh im too lazy to search" attitude...so i will comment, with links (when the search brings up no result and i just remember it was asked i dont complain).
and i will continue to do so- no matter how much someone gets whiny that they couldnt have known (bullcrap!).
to quote the great cammie: i hate it when people screw up and then turn around crying victim..dont complain that people point out stuff messed up on purpose- when you KNOW that you were too lazy to use this website as intended.

yeah i think if one person just mentions it and tells the user they can search for picks then that's fine

but it is totally unessasary for three sometimes maybe even five people to moan and point out it's a repeat

......although if one more person asks in the friends spot who is your fave character i may have to scream...of course the obvious questions have already been done that's common sense

....ahem sorry what was my point, oh yes i sort of agree with smoor and tushtush saying it's nice once is okay otherwise not cool, especially with new fans but i do get why people get miffed and have been more harsh than i think i should have been myself...more often than i like to admit

That comment you just quoted me for ... I know I made that comment somewhere months ago but I'll be buggered if I recall where.

Now I know 'how' you are always putting up links to everything. Nah nah you don't search for it - you have a damn photographic memory, lol!

I think the problem with comments is that people can read a perfectly nice comment in a malicious way and get very angry/upset about it.

Generally, unless I like the question, I just don't answer repeat picks. I can't tell you how many "Sam or Dean" picks there are on the SPN Spot! But people keep asking it. If they want to waste their time, that's their prerogative. I see nothing wrong with pointing out that it's a repeat, but there's no need to get nasty about it. I mean, no one's forcing people to answer repeat picks. It's your choice to click on it. The only "repeat" picks that really bother me are the Twilight questions that pop up everywhere, on practically every spot. It's like a virus! I don't understand why the Twilighters can't keep their questions contained to their own spots.

well there is a thing with the search the old picks. maybe it's just my computer, but unless the pick is worded EXACTLY like the one i'm searching for, it won't come up. same with clubs, videos, etc. so sometimes i'll do a search to see if i'm doing a repeat, but unless i word it exactly like how the other person might've said it, it won't come up. does that make sense? :)

yeah spikes_girl that makes perfect sense, i always just put in the keywords e.g. search in the friends spot for "best character" and then maybe "favorite character" rather than "Who do you think is the best character" if you know what i mean?

I agree with smoore. Many people on here can be rude about that. I can see if it's a question that has been asked 400 times like in the Gossip Girl spot (Who is your favorite character?) but you still should say it in a nicer way. I think a lot people on here just sometimes just like to be know-it-alls.

Umm I dont think I have anyway. I dont think its rude, unless its said in a rude way obviously. But I dunno why people get worked up over repeats.. surely it'd be best to either not say anything or put your opinon across in a positive way instead of just commenting "REPEAT!!!" - Its not the end of the world people

Well, it wasn't a fan pick I added, it was images. I added them just to be nice and contribute, and some wise-ass kept on repeating, "_____ already posted this here", "______ already posted this here". It irked me so much, I stopped contributing to that club. :(

i think its really annoying when people post repeat picks so i have no problem telling them and sometimes i report it especially if its an obvious one like in starwars spot "which movie is your favorite" i mean its kinda obvious that has already been asked and if your to lazy to use the search bar like said above then don't make a pick laziness is a pathetic excuse

Occasionally, an older pick will fall through the cracks (especially in a spot that's very active) even with a search. Usually they don't bother me, but when it's a pick that's been asked seventy times (*cough*who'shotterdanorrob*cough) or just uploaded within a few days, it gets irksome.

The images bother me the most, but since no one titles or keywords images right (which is what really bugs me), I can see why older images get overlooked. In some spots, the only way you can be sure you're not uploading a repeat is to scroll through thousands of images.

It's just pointing out the obvious in many cases. Do people really think polls about a love triangle or asking "who's hottest?" aren't going to be repeats in most clubs?

And as long as it is a genuine repeat. I haven't seen false repeat poll comments, but it is a possibility and now I'm wondering if it's happened somewhere here.
