The Fanpop website has been around for quite a few years now- 3 years in fact, and whilst it is still relatively unknown compared to the likes of Myspace, Facebook and the so-called phenomenon known as Twitter, it is still for me THE website that I pay a visit to on a regular basis.

Fanpop was formerly a small relatively unknown website, whose number of members have grown, month by month, year by year.

With features such as uploading images, submitting website links to other articles and You Tube videos to writing articles, opinion pieces and posting your works of art and creating trivia questions,...

Well, I started using fanpop back in May 2007, and since then I see how the community keeps increasing in numbers which is great. I haven't been the most active user for a while now, but as I said somewhere else, I've always loved the site and therefore I come back every once in a while to spend some time fanpopping.

There is something I've noticed lately, that is obviously hard to control as the amount of users grows, but I thought I would point it out. What I noticed is a serious misunderstanding of the idea behind the "props" feature.

~ Let's start with the basics, according to the Online...

The concept of the prop is wonderful. Fanpop is a user based site and users should have the ability to reward others for their hard work. I also agree with the idea behind Prop Day. It should serve as a reminder to all users to give that reward. However, the prop system has become flawed. Very flawed. I happened upon a user profile and saw several props. I looked to see when the user started Fanpopping and saw that it had only been two months. Wow! This person must have added tons of content. So I looked at the activity. No links had been added, no videos, no images (mind you, the profile had...

I'm not afraid of you, Ghost!
I'm not afraid of you, Ghost!
So I was hanging out on my computer this evening, watching some videos and browsing on Fanpop, when I noticed something that disturbed me. In not one, but two different spots. I discovered several examples of what I believe to be "Ghost Accounts".

"Ghost Accounts" are what I'm calling additional accounts created by an already existing Fanpop member to skew the results of a pick or an argument in their favor. I have read things posted by other Fanpoppers suggesting their existence in the past, but hadn't knowingly spotted any for myself. Tonight I believe I spotted three different people doing...

Have you noticed that people on this site add lots and lots of things and gain load's of fans then out of nowhere are never adding again or only add now and then. Look through your fan list and see who is still adding and praise them for there loyalty and praise even more or even prop them for their work, they all deserve it.

By the way this is my first soapbox

Ok, I usually don't make user guides but this one needs to be made. I have seen a lot of picks and a lot of them are boring or annoying. Here is a list of steps to help you out.

1. Try to have more than three answers if possible. If the question is "Who should Jim be with?" Put, Karen and Pam, and then put an answer like neither or Katy.

2.Always have pictures for the question if it isn't a yes, no, or maybe question. Pictures bring in more fans and make the picks more interesting.

3. Try to ask questions that people haven't already asked and questions that people will be interested in. Don't make it boring.

Now these are the three golden steps to making a good, quality pick on fanpop. If you feel I need to add anything, then please leave it in the comments.

I have a pet peeve.

As a writer, I have found my stuff posted on other websites without my permission, and sometimes without so much as a mention that it was MY article... or a link back to the original. This ticks me off, and it is illegal to do so.

I have not come across this on Fanpop with articles yet, but I have seen it numerous times on images.

Some of the people I adore the most are even doing it. I have to assume innocence here and figure some folks just don't know... so I'ma tell ya ;)

Credit. Credit. Credit. The option to add the photo credit when you submit an image is there for a reason....

Please don't hate me. I know I shouldn't be wasting an article space writing this. I mean many people rated tp1992's article low, but I wanted to take out my fustrations somewhere.
I just noticed today that in one of my favourite spots I am no longer number 1. I wouldn't be so bothered if it weren't for this:

Ok, this is getting a tweee bit ridiculous. And before I start off, I know this has been discussed before, I'm just refreshing everybody's mind.
Yesterday, I was fanpoping. I come across the link spot- And went to videos. link is what I saw. There were apple pie videos there. Submitted by Hulu.
link are some images by other fanpopers reporting this.

Hulu's videos should NOT be done by a webcrawler. (or whatever you call it) Dave, either have a manual team do hulu's videos, or dont do it at all.

EDIT: as amazondebs says in the comments, Fanpop isen't even getting paid for hulu's videos. What is the purpose of having them here?

(Another) EDIT: more of this maddness. and in link spot!
Hi FANPOPers (and no i didnt copy this from fetch with ruff ruffman with the term FETCHers, i just thought it up and i barely remembered that jim conroy uses the same thing, too)!!! if nobody has ever thought about this before, well come on and read this!!!!!!!! <:)

fanpop is like a second home to me. this is a place where i can forget about my reality life and come to this almost perfect life. here i can forget my troubles (and if my troubles come along with me to this place, they quickly wear off with the updates and articles i read along with some Michael Jackson music!). So is this place...

Chose Buffy & Spike From Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7
Chose Buffy & Spike From Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7
Has any one ever told that you are obessed with this show?

Well, I have cuz I have pictures on my computer, seasons of the show, and some soundtracks of the show. See a lot of people can be judgemental sometimes. Now, that can be annoying.

When I have some my best friends sleep over my house, they see a lot of stuff from my favorite shows. And they would say wow you really love that show.

See, I have all seasons of two shows that I love which is Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Xena The Warrior Princess. Then my friends would judge on some things that I have in my room that are from thoses two tv...

This is a forgery. Every single word is plagiarized. (1)

What is Plagiarism?
Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work, or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means

1. to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
2. to use (another's production) without crediting the source
3. to commit literary theft
4. to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

In other words, plagiarism...

Ok, there has been a growing problem that I have recently noticed on Fanpop. I have been receiving many e-mails that are very annoying and sometimes even offending. I don't care if you are having a problem with another fanpopper or you are telling me about a new spot. The fun part about fanpop is that you get to discover new spots for yourself. And we might not like the certain spot. Also, if you are having a problem with another fanpoper than just ignore them and don't tell us about that certain person.i don't want to here it. I might even be friends with that specific fanpoper. If you are...

I was never intending to do a follow-up article on fanpop-addiction. I just took it for granted that I had grown happily addicted and I would remain that way. I basked in the warm, happy glow that only recognition for fanpop-contribution can give you, and looked forward to the fanpopping years ahead.

But then disaster struck. And I'm not talking about the massive floods that have hit England... (I was fine with the cellar being filled with water...)No, my internet broke and left me without fanpop.

So now, my second list. The list of what happens when a fanpop-addict is forced to quit.

1. When...

Some of you may not no this but if you have a mac you can only upload five images at one time onto fanpop.

Most of you probably don't care because you have a PC or don't upload images that much.

It didn't really get on my nerves before, but now I want to upload Heroes screencaps to the Heroes spot which I have a die-hard medal in and I know PC users can upload much more than five images at a time; especially if they have a die hard medal in the spot they want to upload in.

I know you can open loads of tabs but then again it is more work and annoying.

It's unfair on people who like to contribute anyway, so I hope there is some change in the image uploader for mac users.

P.S. If you joke and say I should have a PC or whatever, then very funny but no.

This article describes two different kinds of feedback to the Fanpop staff that are often confused for one another, and was last edited on 28 October 2008.

Feedback on the web site
Like any commercial software enterprise, web sites provide a product to their customers. In Fanpop's case, the product is a great site for joining together with other fans of topics that interest you in order to share quality content and make friends. But as with any product, feedback is very important to both maintain and improve the product. But feedback for maintaining the site is fundamentally different than feedback...
