Question 7..Where can I find the FAQs?
Question 7..Where can I find the FAQs?
Basically this will be a collection of all the picks asking "HOW DO I- insert basic function here ?" (usually with the options IDK and PLZ tell me in commentz) and my short answer to these inquiries. Now that we have the new answers feature they are usually posted as an answer request but still repeated endlessly.
I usually report these kind of picks/answers and they get deleted as they are effectively spam. The drawback is: all information users leave in the comments is lost.

link seems to only be used by a limited number of fans and though I use it frequently I hate how all information is lost in the multiple pages after a while.
I found the officiallinkdon't cover all the basics as I usually like to refer people there.

Also this is in no way meant to rival the very well writtenlink which is much more detailed.

Who are the Fanpop Four (F4)?

They are the link and run this place.

How do you contact them?

1b)How do I delete a user from my fan list?

Go your profile and click on "fans".
You will see a list of icons and the names of the users you fanned. Next to their name you see a little red cross. When you click on the cross the user is deleted from your list of fans.

Note: The person will NOT be informed. But some users keep a close eye on their fancount and might research if they see it dropping. They will however NOT get a message saying they were dropped from someone else's fanlist.

2)How do I compose an article (old name is Soapbox)?

Go to the appropriate club.
SEARCH before writing a new article. Articles are supposed to be written by users! If you find a funny article someone wrote on the Internet post it as a link.
Scroll down to the articles box.
Next to the headline you see the option
"write article".

3)How do I get a medal?

Medals (little dots you get on your profile in green, yellow and red) are awarded by the SITE (unlike props which are awarded by USERS see Question 11) for your contributions. No one knows how it really works. Just know that if you contribute a lot of good content you will be rewarded. The F4 won't tell anyone how or when. You can read more in the site'slink
Also link article I wrote on medals and how they are given oot.

4) How do I get more fans?

Don't make picks, forums etc asking for fans. Instead link

5) How do I make a club (old name spot)?

Search!! See if the club already exists. See if a similar club exists. Search again using other terms to see if you are not making a duplicate club.
Go to the main page.

www.fanpop.com
Scroll down.On the bottom right you will see a box: next to "browse clubs" written in blue
+ create new club

7)How do I find the FAQs?

Scroll to the bottom of the page. See image above

8) How do I change my user icon?
(personal tip from me: DON'T attempt by sending me your password and asking ME to change it for you..that will just result in me having fun BUT your image will never be changed)

Instead save a picture to your link. When uploading you will be asked if the image is supposed to be your new user icon. Check that box!
You can only have images you previously added to your gallery as a user icon. If you want another icon click on the little "person" symbol beneath the image (there is a picture in the article I linked) in your gallery and your icon will automatically be changed.

9)How do I format my text?

Font styles:
Your text between the brackets will be bold when writing it like this
Your text between the brackets will be in italics when writing it like this
Your text between the brackets will be underlined when writing it like this

Hyperlinks:

Not sure where to ask your question? Here is link on how to distinguish between picks, quizzes, forums and answers.

I can't believe it's been a whole year!
Today marks our 1-year anniversary of launching the Fanpop public beta! That's right folks, it was one year ago today that we pressed the button and unveiled Fanpop to the world wide web. And since then, we've had millions and millions of people come to the site. It's been great because we've gotten to know so many of you through the community. Whether it be in a fun forum game like A-Z in Heroes or a heat Picks debate about vanilla vs. chocolate, we've really bonded with our users over the past year.

The site has grown and changed so much in the past year. When we launched our spots we just...

Hey everyone,

I felt like writing about the constant reposting of icons from livejournal, because I have become a very active lj user in the past months and I know of many lj people who are annoyed as hell to see their icons posted here.

First of all I'd like to say that I did it too. Yes, I took icons that were posted on livejournal and posted them here with credit.
Now you might say: Okay, but if people credit them, why is there a problem? It's not as if the lj people own the original pictures they icon.
This is of course true, but I think it is more about respect and being polite.

To like or not to like? That is the question.

Earlier tonight, the ratings system of Fanpop experienced a massive overhaul. No longer can you rate content on a scale of one to five (ala YouTube), but if you like content, you can "like" it (ala Facebook), or "be a fan" of it.

Dave gave a very good, logical explanation for the change to help assuage some fears and answer some questions:

"Hi Guys,

Thanks for making this pick. There are a lot of reasons we wanted to create a new system for deciding whether fans like something or not. We found that most people were rating either 4 or 5 stars so we thought...

If you must promote a club, try these tips.
If you must promote a club, try these tips.
Re-reading the various articles about promoting clubs on Fanpop, it occurred to me that some fairly basic ideas were missing for promoting the clubs you like (not just the ones you create, but any clubs you enjoy).

Many of the previous etiquette articles and forum threads have described things to avoid in promoting a club, as well as suggestions for things to do. For once, I'm not going to rant about undesirable behavior (that's the plan, anyway), but just keep the focus on other things fans can try to promote their favorite clubs. This was last edited on 27 March 2009.

I hate those darned internet predators, don't you?
I just logged onto Fanpop about a half hour ago and discovered something extremely profane and inappropriate on the YouTube spot. Due to it's heavily pornographic material, the video was deleted shortly thanks to several reports from some handy fellow Fanpoppers.

It was submitted by a user of the name bon8699. I reported this user 3 times and I expect him to be banned for a long, long time.

The reason I am so annoyed that this was submitted is that this is not some pornography site. And this is most certaintly not NewGrounds, where you can submit images like this as much as you please without...

I swear to whatever higher power you believe in that I am going to injure someone with all the shoddy spelling going around. Yes abbreviations are easier (in a sense) but it looks like a 5 year old wrote it and a lot of people don't understand it. So lets first go over some abbreviations that we should cut out of our vocabulary here at Fanpop when you post content...

u = you
r = are
srs = serious
2 = to or too (using it as "two" is fine)
plz = please

If you actually take that .5 of a second to type the whole word people will look at your content, comment and such a lot more and with nicer comments...

I am not here to lecture you yet again on photo crediting. I am done with that.

I am way past the lecturing and into downright grrrrrr-ville.

You already know full well that taking something you did not create and not giving full credit to the owner is theft. Your excuses mostly boil down to laziness at this point.

So.

This is my public notice that any and all images with no credit to the original owner of the image will be rated harshly no matter how great the picture is... or how much I normally like you.

Additionally, if there is a blatant Copyright notice right there on the damn picture and you still failed to credit the owner, I'm reporting it to Fanpop -and- notifying the owner of the image that you stole it.

Enough is enough.

Right, well the title is a bit sarcastic. The whole "trolling" thing is sorta annoying me that having a low rate on something HAS to mean you were trolled...well maybe there's a different reason. I'll break it up to why that might not have been a trolling...

Soapboxes
- Did you use proper grammar? Check your spelling
- What's a paragraph? Learn how to use paragraphs properly to make your soapbox formatted and not look like a 1 star article
- They may not agree or think your opinion is totally outrageous...not a trolling

Yes, I am fired up again over another issue of cruelty here on Fanpop... specifically the practice of passing judgment on other users.
Let's face it, we do not know each other personally, and for the most part none of us have ever met in real life. I think it is cruel and sad that people find it necessary to try to judge the intentions or actions of others. How could anyone possibly judge another person or their actions without knowing them personally or knowing the things they are going through. You could not possibly say what you would do in their situation without...

Okay, I don't know if it's just coincidence but I noticed this week that some picks just are, I don't quite know how to describe it, bad.

It just seems that a lot of picks are asked so that they are asked, a lot of them don't have pictures. (that's not very important but I can't help noticing)
But the worst thing is that there are so many typos in the questions. Look, my English is not very good, I make a lot of mistakes but al least I try to make as less as possible. I mean, a lot of questions are just so wrong, the 'preview' thing that you get when you've finished making your pick is there...

A few minutes ago I thought of a partial answer to the recent outbreak of internet trolls we've had over the last few moths.

Ladies and Gentlepoppers, I introduce to you:

The ATSOF (The Anti Troll Squad Of Fanpop)
This will be a society of fanpoppers who work together to justly rate any content which has (without reason) been rated low.

My plan is to make an ATSOF Spot; if a spot or particular piece of content has been rated low you can alert the ATSOF spot about this and some of the "fans" of the spot will head over to the content and rate the content fairly, therefore boosting the rating.

Please tell me what you think; I don't want to create a Ghost-Spot-to-be

If we make a new spot we want to make it popular. Recently I made a new spot so when I wanted to send a message to all my friends about it I got tired of typing individual messages so I quit. So we should be able to send one message to all our friends at the same time if necessary. Also there should be an area that says "new spots" on the home page so that people can see what has been recently created and if they want to join the particular spot. It would really make the people who created the spots happy because they could get some good publicity.

By the way I made a new spot about Kal Penn, the indian guy from the van wilder movies, Harold and Kumar go to white castle, and Epic Movie.

So if u like those movies check it out. all you have to do is type "Kal Penn" in the search engine" (obviously, I know)

Also this soapbox was ment for the fanpop spot

Hello to everyone,
my name is Inès, and I'm French.

As a lot of you know, Paris has been attacked yesterday by terrorists. The concert hall "Le Bataclan" has been attacked during a concert.

128 dead and more than 200 wounded are for now counted. This is a tragedy.

I was born and I've lived in Paris, and I often go there and to the Bataclan to attend concerts, and seeing this, is just awful. The whole country is shocked and desperate.

3 national days of mourning have been declared.

I invite you to leave a few words, thoughts for the victims of this disaster.

Thank you <3
