Fanpop Article: Make "Answers" the new "Forums"

I was thinking about the answers feature, how it's so much more used than the forums. The point of the answers was to ask for help on something to do with what you're a fan of, but it's also being used to discuss things like "What's the best Simpsons Character" or "Disney should make 2D cartoons again", something like that. That's what the forums are made for, but most of these kind of questions are used in the "answer" section anyway. The real forums are hardly used now. Nearly everywhere I look, the last reply to a forum was 1 year ago.

Althought I can understand why these questions are in the answers section. The questions are easier to notice and you can vote for what the best answer is.

So I was thinking, why not just make the answers the new forums? Get rid of the old forum. That way, you can post whatever you want, there's 1 less section to worry about where to ask, the questions are more likely to be answered and there's no/less rule breaking.

Eline_K I disagree. Instead of getting rid of the forum section, we should promote it better. I've gotten some great answers to my questions in the question section. Questions that weren't opinion based and I really needed help with. However these questions get lost with the over-use of this section. As a result of this, many questions are asked multiple times. If the question section would be free of all the opinion based questions, the 'real' questions would be much easier to find and we would have less duplicates. I know quite a few spots where the question section and the forum section are both actively and properly used, and that makes the whole spot a lot less messy. If everybody makes the same stupid grammar mistake, do we change the grammar rules, or do we teach them to do it right? I vote for teaching.

lovehousemd_frv I understand what you mean but this is all because peoples.They add stupid questions or forum topics @question section.I can't talk like that for them when i do the same once.I post the forum topic"what is your fave video"@question section,when it was a forum topic.I'm guilty But i start to see angry people and stop.Before one month i was sign Justin Bieber spot(i'm not crazy fangir.Calm down)I just like his songs not him!Anyway.Every day in my updates was having the questions like[i]"did he is single"[/i] or [i]"Am I his type"[/i] quetion.I was thinking that fanpop must add[b]"No!You not his type"[/b]with big red words!In the end i just unjoin the club.Maybe we can't kick the forums ass,but you can help us too teach this people to use quiz section only for quiz:) @DarkSarcasm .Is easier to teach algebra to a monkey,than to teach crazy fangirls to use fanpop like fanpop(I not want to be rude:)_

AnimationFan All i'm saying is make the forum silmier to the answers, becuase the answers are much easier to spot than the forums.

rachaelwsz Instead of getting rid of the forums, I think Fanpop should get rid of the answers section and promote the forums section instead.

Frizzhead I think fanpop should hide the answers feature like they did to the links(grr) and it won't bre overused

Giving Back To Fanpop

So we, as users, take a lot from Fanpop every day. We watch videos, we take quiz's, share awesome links, etc. We all have gained something from Fanpop, whether it be a funny video, or a cool new website. So I was thinking that perhaps maybe once a month, if even that, a mass majority (as many users we can get) would all add one thing. Whether it be a video, a quiz, a soapbox, or even just a link, we would all be giving back. I was thinking that it could be the first of every month. Maybe even a time could be assigned to that date, which would allow other users to get to know each other and thread the community together. Perhaps at Four PM EST, we would all add something to Fanpop. I know many of you add items everyday but this would let less-contributing users thoughts be heard. These users could become hooked on Fanpop and then that's +1 more dedicated fan. I don't know if this would take off, but if it does, it could be great. Please just leave a comment.

After creating my link spot and noting the severe lack of members, curiosity got me to searching for spots on Fanpop that only had a single member (generally, their creator).

I came across spots that were months old and still only had a single member such as Chel's link spot, harold's link spot, or berly's link spot. And I thought to myself, these spots were created to meet other fans and yet there appeared to be no other fans of these topics on all of fanpop? Ridiculous! Or... maybe it's true.
