Does anybody have any idea why some people paste the url of the emoticon they want to use instead of using the actual emoticon?

Sometimes, you see comments with just a url
EX: link

Sometimes accompanied by an actual comment, sometimes not.


Are there some people who can't access them, or is it just because they want to?
I'm just curious.
