Chapter one: The outside
2031, San Francisco.
Decades ago the San Francisco Bay had been overlapped by the gigantic Golden Gate Bridge. Night and day were perfectly separated and there was a balance between buildings and nature. However, ever since Wyatt Halliwell had taken over community, the city was covered in darkness 24/7. The bridge had been blown up when he’d lost his temper once again, which happened lots of times.
Everyone was scared to death for the Charmed Ones son and there were only a handful of people who stood up to him. The rest of the community was murdered on his command or tried to please him by spying on the enemy or kill them. The Halliwell manor had become a place to fear and those who tried to escape from the Tiran tried to avoid the house as much as possible. It was also the place where Wyatt had his meetings. Tonight was one of them.
He was sitting at the living table and had a superiority expression on his face. He impatiently tapped on the table with his fingers. Than he glanced at the kitchen. “Chris Perry, what’s taking you so long?” In the kitchen there was a twenty-two year old guy walking up and down with plates with cookies and tea. He walked in in the living room and put the plate on the table.
Wyatt raised his eyebrows as if he wanted to say: “That’s it? Aren’t you supposed to say something right now?” Chris didn’t need any words to get what Wyatt’s expression meant. “I’m really sorry, mister Halliwell. I hope you can still enjoy the cookies and tea” Wyatt waved with his hand as to make Chris leave.
Chris went back to the kitchen and sank down on the floor. It had been like this ever since he had arrived in the Halliwell manor. His parents had taken off when he turned fourteen and Wyatt, who was fifteen by the time, had let him live in his house. His parents, Leo and Piper, died the same time Chris’ parents disappeared and Wyatt had said that they should stick together and protect each other.
But doing chores, serve Wyatt and his friends like they were kings and never get outside, was not what Chris had in mind when Wyatt spoke about sticking together. Wyatt had saved his life and he was paying duty now.
When the meeting was over and all of his minions were gone, Wyatt came into the kitchen. He found Chris, who was still sitting on the floor, and he curled his nose. “You know, Chris, that dishes really aren’t going to clean itself, if you get my point”
Chris crawled up and walked to the sink, where he turned the tap open. Wyatt kept looking at him and it made him really nervous. He swallowed and rotated his head slowly to Wyatt. “Can I help you with something, mister Halliwell?” Wyatt shook his head and Chris continued his work. “I was wondering if you know where your loyalty lies”, he said coldly.
Chris blinked to make the words sink in. “See, I’ve heard out of a good source, that you’re planning to break the rules and go outside. You have permission to go-” Chris looked up, surprised. “-but if you do, you cannot come back here” Chris got a disappointed expression on his face.
“But that’s not fair! You can’t keep me in here forever! I need to go outside! Please, Wyatt, just let me go outside for one day, that’s all I’m asking for”, he desperately begged. Wyatt squeezed his lips together and a stubborn glance appeared in his eyes.
“You remember the first day we met? You were walking down the street and it was raining like hell. You were covered in mud and you smelled like hell. You hadn’t been eating for days and you had no place to live. Your parents took off ‘cause they didn’t wanna take care of you. I saved your life, and all I want from you is to stay inside. It’s way too dangerous for a mortal like you, an innocent. It’s full of demons out there and you’d be killed in no time”
“I’m not a little kid anymore. I can protect myself” Wyatt violently and stubbornly shook his head . “I said no. I will succeed where your folks failed and that’s protecting you” “But-”, Chris started, but Wyatt cut into it: “I said no” Chris let his head hang, defeated.
Chris went to his bedroom and sank down on his bed. He lay down and stared at the ceiling. He wondered how the world outside would be like. Sure he had a clear view from behind his window, but it wasn’t the same as really be outside. He heard a familiar noise and a few seconds later Bianca materialized in the center of his room. He looked up at her, with an angry look in his eyes.
“Thanks for betraying me, Bi” Bianca sighed and shrugged. “I was only trying to help you. Wyatt shouldn’t be treating you this way and you know it” “What can I do about it? He saved my life. He raised me when my parents disappeared. They never wanted me, unlike Wyatt who actually did. If I go out of the house, it’ll break his heart. He’s trying to protect me”
Bianca could not believe he just said that. “Who are you and what did you do to my best friend? Come on, Chris, you can’t just give up like that” She paused to catch a breath and than continued. “You have to get outside. We can go to the movies or eat a hamburger and fries or go to a club. I don’t know, as long as you don’t stay in here”
She saw the look in Chris’s eyes and it encouraged her to keep going. “Just for one day. Wyatt never has to find out” For a moment Chris still hesitated, but than he agreed. Bianca pulled him up and they went downstairs.
They were just about to leave when a cold voice stopped them. They turned around and saw Wyatt, who seemed to be furious. “You weren’t planning on leaving, were you, Chris Perry?”, he authority asked. “It was my idea, Wyatt”, Bianca bravely said. “If you wanna punish someone, pick me. I can handle it”
Wyatt ignored her. He held Chris’ look and said: “Excalibur!” The magic sword appeared in his hands and he walked towards Chris. Chris, who was still standing at the front door, couldn’t move a single muscle. His face went pale when Wyatt stopped right in front of him. For a moment nothing happened. Than Chris felt an indescribable pain coming from his stomach.
Wyatt pulled the sword back and Chris fell down on his knees and than on the ground. He couldn’t breathe and he was choking. Wyatt orbed out and Bianca fell down on her knees to look at Chris. She held his head in her arms and she looked at him, an unkempt glean in her eyes. “You’re not going to die. I won’t let you. D’you hear me? Don’t even think about dying”
Meg staggered to the wall and stuck out her hand to find support. She let herself fall against the wall and sank down.
“He’s just lying there. He’s not responding to anything I say” she mumbled breathless. “When I find out who did this to him- and I will find out- I’m going to torture that bastard to death” She looked aside at Heather. “I want to help inspector Roberts”
“Okay, I think I know how to find her” Heather replied.
“And…someone has to call the Winchesters” Meg continued. “They’re his…family…If he…” Meg couldn’t get herself to finish. “They...

The door to the intensive care opened by itself and an instant later it closed again. Balthazar became visible and stepped slowly to the bed Cas was lying in. There was a bandage around his head, and some kind of masker around his nose and mouth, attached to a ventilation device.
“I am so sorry, Castiel” Balthazar whispered as he lay his hand on the machine. “But I have no choice”
“What are you doing?” Anna asked sharp. Without turning around Balthazar mumbled: “Please, leave, Anna. I have to do this. Crowley will kill me if I don’t”
Anna walked to him with fierce steps. “If...

Alarmed by the blast Heather shoved the curtains in her living room aside. “Oh my God” she said shocked as she saw Meg’s body lying on the street. She ran outside, while she searched for her phone. When she realize she didn’t have it on her, she signed at a few passengers. “Don’t just stand there like some kind of idiots. Call 911!” she yelled angry.
She kneeled next to Meg and lifted her T-shirt. She turned away and covered her mouth. There was an awful lot of blood.
Five minutes later the ambulance was driving to the hospital. Heather searched through Meg’s purse and conjured...

Meg dropped the paper-knife and hurried back to Cas. He was still conscious, but he looked very pale and he had trouble keeping his eyes open. Meg slapped him softly in the face to make sure he wouldn’t fall asleep.
“Get dressed” Anna said. She threw some clothes at Meg and then stepped to Cas. She bent through her knees and touched his forehead. “He’s burning up again”
“He’s getting sick again?” Meg asked, trying not to sound worried, while she put on the clothes had given her.
Anna nodded. “Apparently human life is very hard for him. Seems like he can’t take a lot”...

Cas kicked the door of Meg’s motel room open. On his way he had tried to call her, but she wouldn’t answer her phone and at first sight she wasn’t here either.
“Meg!” Cas called. He received no response, so he checked the bathroom. She wasn’t there. Cas glanced at the clock. 10:03 pm. She would probably be on her way to her first customer, whoever that was. He needed an address. He walked to the table, hoping there would be a little note on it. But other than a dirty cup of coffee and a coffee stain, the table was empty. He walked to the dresser and opened all drawers. He searched...

Crowley and Balthazar were standing opposite each other. Balthazar had summoned Crowley to have a one on one chat about Kevin.
“You must possess an incredible amount of nerve to meet me here on your own” Crowley said mundane.
“We’re kind of short on angels” Balthazar replied. “I know your time’s precious, so is mine, so let me cut to the chase, shall I?”
“Please” Crowley answered uninterested.
“You have something that belongs to us” Balthazar started.
“You mean the tablet?” Crowley asked with raised eyebrows. “Or Kevin?”
“Both” Balthazar answered.
“And you...

Cas took Ellen’s arm and disappeared. He landed in the ICU, next to Jo’s bed.
“Warn me if someone’s coming. I don’t know how long this will take” Cas said dispassionately. Ellen nodded and walked to the door. She opened it and walked outside.
Cas sank down on the bed and lay his hands on both Jo’s temples. He closed his eyes and prayed for Jo to open her eyes.
And she did. At first everything was a blur. She reached out her hand and touched Cas’ face. “Dean?” she mumbled weak. When Cas’ face became clearer she withdrew her hand. “I’m sorry”
Cas didn’t reply, but...

Cas appeared outside Dean’s room, ignoring the short shrieks of the nurses. He opened the door and Sam looked up.
“You came” he said relieved.
“I’m sorry I left” Cas said. “There were things I needed to take care of”
“Yeah, sure, but can you save that for later?” Sam said. “Right now we really need your help”
“What’s going on?” Cas asked numb.
“Zoey didn’t just shoot Dean. She also shot Jo” Sam said.
“Jo’s dead?” Cas asked soft. Sam shook his head. “No, not yet” he said. “But her life’s hanging by a thread and you might be her only hope”
Cas...

Sam was sitting at Dean’s death bed, when the door opened and Ellen walked in. Sam was lost in grief, so he didn’t hear her. It wasn’t until she lay her hand on his shoulder that he looked up.
“Ellen?” he said confused. He hadn’t thought about calling anyone, so why was she here? “Did Cas call you?” he asked, though he knew that couldn’t be the case.
“No” Ellen said numb. “I had to be here” Then, with a little more strength in her voice, she said: “That bitch shot my daughter”
“What?” Sam exclaimed while getting up. “Well, where is she? Is she going to be okay?”...

Elena opened her eyes and gasped for air. She sat up and pulled the threads on her body. She climbed out of bed and opened the door.
She covered her ears when she heard dozens of shoes stepping on the floor, people talking as if they were screaming through a megaphone.
“Shut up!” she screamed and a few staff members turned around.
“Are you alright, miss?” a nurse asked. Elena shook her head confused. She leaned against the room. Everything was a blur. “I’ll get a doctor” the nurse and she looked around to find one.
Elena hurried away. She was hungry. She needed to eat something...

They heard the door close and wondered who came barging in, until a familiar, female and British voice solved the mystery.
“Anyone home?” Rebekah called from downstairs.
“Ugh” Damon sighed. “I’ll go” He stood up and walked to the door, but when he wanted to open it, the door was slammed in his face and Rebekah barged in. She held a guy in her right hand and a blood bag in her left hand.
“What are you doing here?” Elena asked tired.
“I came to apologize” Rebekah explained flighty, while she tossed the bag to Damon. “I was wrong to bite you. It’s just that I busted Stefan smooching with that vamp strumpet and you look like her, so I got carried away. I don’t understand what it is that draws Stefan to women with your appearances. You’re not even that pretty”
“I appreciate your honesty” Elena commented sarcastically.
“Hey, I’m as open as your legs were last night” Rebekah replied blunt and Elena’s cheeks turned red.
Caroline parked her car on the parking lot of the school. Since Damon didn’t have a car anymore he couldn’t drive them and either way, Damon nor Elena minded being banned to the backseat of Caroline’s car.
“We’re there” Caroline said, excited and nervous.
“Yeah, you go ahead” Damon mumbled, before he kissed Elena.
“Come on, guys, not in my car” Caroline reproached. She stepped out of the car and walked around to Elena’s door. She opened it and pulled Elena out of the car. “Try to restrain yourself a little” she said with a sharp look at Elena.
Elena turned to Damon....

Summer 2007

Daphne and Roland were lying in the woods, enjoying the sun and playing like teenagers in love.
At the shore of the lake there was a handsome twenty-five year old man.
“Go on, Martin” a female voice said. “You can do it”
Martin turned around. “Zoey!” he said enthusiastic and clapped his hands. Zoey came to him and he hugged her tight. “Martin loves Zoey”
Zoey caressed his hair. “I know, darling, I know” she said sweet. “You want to go take a dip in the lake?” she suggested.
Martin looked at her and she could see the conflict in his eyes. It was really hot and...

Cas examined the rectangle he had found on the floor of his cell. There had been a note on it. ‘A present from Meg. Use it when you need me’
A strange warmth filled Cas’ heart as he read the note over and over again as if it were a love letter. Somewhere behind all that tough acting Meg cared for him. He knew that now and when he got out he would find her and convince her to give him another chance. He wouldn’t be so needy anymore, he wouldn’t…chase her like a lost puppy.
“I’m starting to think someone wrote a novel on that small piece of paper” a British voice said.
Cas looked...

It was visiting hour in prison and a guard told Cas someone wanted to see him. Cas expected to see Dean or Sam, but when he entered the visitors room it was Zoey who waved at him discreetly.
The guard brought him to the table and then withdrew himself. Cas sat down.
“Hi, Emmanuel” Zoey said full of compassion. “I’m sorry. Castiel, right? Daphne told me you found out who you are. How do you like your new old life?”
Cas looked around him, then back at Zoey and let his shoulders hang.
“I’m sorry. That was a stupid question” Zoey said.
“What are you doing here?” Cas wondered. “Why...

Anna materialized in Meg’s cell. Meg jumped up and crawled backwards. There was no evil bone in her host’s body that was considering on even trying to take the angel down.
“Don’t worry, I’m not here to hurt you. I have strict orders and when I’m done I’ll be gone” Anna said.
“Strict orders by who?” Meg asked.
Anna conjured her sword and Meg’s eyes widened in fear. But Anna cut her own arm and put the sword away again. She elevated to the ceiling and drew the Key of Solomon.
“Not again, come on!” Meg exclaimed. “I already promised Sam I wouldn’t get out until they’re...

“That wasn’t very nice, was it?”
Meg looked up. There was a man standing outside her cell and he had a big smile on his face. He examined the ceiling.
“Who are you?” Meg demanded to know.
The man, who spoke with a British accent, raised one eyebrow. “Let me give you a little hint. I saved the two of you from Hell”
“Oh, you’re an angel” Meg said dry.
“You’re welcome” the angel said.
“Are you going to kill me?” Meg wanted to know.
“No”
“Are you here to mock me?” Meg asked a little annoyed.
“No” the angel said, seeming to enjoy the situation. “Why don’t...

The next morning.
Jo woke up, because someone was banging the door.
“Mr. Allen? Open the door!” a female voice said.
Jo stumbled out of bed and wiped her eyes. She walked to the door and opened it. There were two inspectors, a man and a woman.
“Good morning, miss. I’m inspector Roberts, this is my colleague inspector Williams” Isabel said, showing her badge. “We need to talk to Emmanuel Allen. We were told we could find him here”
Jo frowned and shook her head. “I don’t know anyone with that name. You have the wrong house”
Inspector Williams searched in his bag and conjured a picture. “Maybe this might help you?” he said. Jo’s eyes widened and she took the picture. “I know him” she admitted. “But his name’s not Emmanuel. It’s Castiel”
For a minute Cas completely forgot he was an angel and that he could fly. Or maybe he wanted to be sure Dean knew he was furious. Either way, he slammed the door open and shut again and on his way outside he collided to Meg.
Meg watched him rush away and frowned. She opened the door of Dean’s room and pursed her lips.
“Well, that explains it” she said.
“Jesus, Meg, get the hell out of here!” Dean said angry. Jo had already put on her clothes and Dean was putting on his. “Your boyfriend just left. You might have missed him, but if you hurry you might catch up with him”
Meg squeezed...

Sam was back at Rufus’ cabin. He walked back to the table where he lit the three candles. He picked up the knife and cut his arm. The blood dripped in the bowl that was still standing in the center of the table. He struck a match a threw it in the bowl and the flames rose up.
At first nothing happened.
“Crowley, get down here! Before I get angry!” Sam yelled furious.
“Alright, alright, don’t lose your head” Crowley said. He appeared behind Sam and Sam quickly turned around. Crowley looked at his watch. “I give you two minutes. Make them count”
“Where’s Dean?” Sam asked insisting....
