FanFiction.net Question

Just out of curiosity, do all fanfics have to be connected to a story, TV show, movie, etc as opposed to also doing original and made up stories based on your ideas?

Yes, all fan fiction is based on a canon fandom, be it a film, a book, a TV series, a manga or a graphic novel etc. That's what makes it fan fiction as opposed to an original story/just fiction.

Well, I do plan doing some stuff connection to fandom stuff, but is there any site that allows original ideas you know of as well?

I think there's a website, something like fictionpress.com, but I'm not entirely sure of the name. I also think that Archive Of Our Own has an original fiction section.

Technically, Ao3 does have a original section but from what I've seen it's basically fandoms that never got a category along with a bunch of weird things. But I don't think you'll be able to post original fics on their.
