FanFiction.net Question

Does a story in fan fiction have to be related to a movie or book to be posted or can it be a plain story that I came up with😳

Ok so if this is a stupid question you can smack me just post *smack* with your response and I'm pretty sure I'll feel it...like...literally. Anyway I have an idea for a story(actually a lot of stories) and at the moment I dont think it's related or connected to any book or movie so idk if I will be allowed to post it. Can I?? I believe in the future i will post stories related to other previous works but right now I need to get the these stories out of my head so my mind is clear and can come up with a actual fanfic but idk if I would be able to post the stories.

Note: Idk any better because I made my account when I believed the ideas would work and now I'm not so sure😥

I have an account there too. My trouble there is: getting favorites, alerts, and reviews. How do I get people to review my stories? My stories are good but my readers are always silent. My plan is go big but my readers usually don't say anything. I have this name here on this site so it's the same at fanfiction.net and also fictionpress. The readers who read me on both site never review. Let me know how I can get people to review from start to finish. I have a friend on fanfiction who has 200 author alerts for her Ashes to Ashes stories. I want to be like her.

If you have original stories not connected to any existing franchise (movies, books, tv, cartoons, comic books - anything that already exists), then don't post it on fanfiction.net

You can post it on fictionpress.net which is just like FF.net, but for original works.

I don't think you can, otherwise it wouldn't be called 'fanfiction'
