I don't know why, but this is how I've always spelled it. Probably because as a child I used to read Brian Froud and Alan Lee's book Faeries every day. :)

They are different kinds of faerie/fairy's. Fairy is more related to the fairy tails and now relate to small pixies. Faerie is the original, sometimes big and sometimes small. They are the ones from myths. The correct one is Faerie.
