As I held Esme in my arms I felt like this is were i belonged.When I finally let her go she looked up at me I could see the love radiating out from her like heat waves coming up from the asphalt on a hot summer day. It felt as if hours had passed but it had only been a few minutes at the most.
"What took you so long?" she asked
I laughed.
"There were a few things i had to take care of first."At this very moment I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her I loved her unconditionally.But she was human...I would not bring her to this life,I couldn't bring myself to do it.She didn't deserve to be a vampire.I would wait until when i did not know.
She and I walked to a clearing about half a mile away from her cottage.The clearing was overflowing with flowers. I sat down in the clearing. Esme was looking at me curiously.
"What are you doing? It's freezing out here."
I had not noticed how cold it was, although I never really did.
"Just sit with me for a few minutes,please."
"Okay,but if i get pneumonia you have to cure me."
We laughed.
"Are you ok?" she asked
"Yes, why?"
"You are freezing!"
"Oh, uhm, thats just poor circulation."
"Oh."
We sat in silence for a little while. It was long enough for my mind to start to wander.
"Carlisle?" I heard it sounded so distant I wasn't sure if I was imagining it of if it was real.
" Carlisle?!?"
"Esme?"
"Oh my gosh you scared me.I thought you were in a different world there for a while."
"I kinda was."
"What were you thinking about?"
"Us."
"Oh"
"Lets get you in the house you are getting cold."
I walked her to the house and made sure she was ok. Just as I was getting into my car. She called my name.
"Carlisle."
"what can I do for you Esme?"
"Stay with me."
"I am sorry but I can't ,I have to work in the morning, but you are welcome to come home with me tonight."
"Are you sure I wouldn't be imposing?"
"I am extremely sure."
"Okay."
We get in the car and go back to my home.After I get her seatled into one of my guest rooms I go down stairs, and think about how to keep her in my life. I look at the clock,time to get ready to go to work.
All day I couldn't keep focused on my work. Esme had consumed my thoughts. I was sitting in my office.When my thoghts were interupted
"Dr.Cullen?"
"Yes"
"It's time for you to sign-out."
"Ok, thank you Mia?"
"Dr.Cullen."
"Yes,Mia?"
"Were is you engagment ring?"
"We broke it off."
I got up and left.When I got home Esme was sitting on the sofa, she looked up and smiled. She really looked like she belonged there.
Thats when I knew that I would Have to Propse to her and soon, but how soon?
