While it's gathered a cult following, It also strayed too far from the book to even allow a squeal, even if funds HAD been enough to fuel a second film. In addition, the contract will expire no doubt before they could even finish the movie, if they started filming at this late hour...

When the film rights contract dies in a few years, Film makers worldwide MAY turn and try another shot at this franchise. It happened with both Narnia and Lord of the rings, and may happen again...
Till then, I'll allways love the movie, and laugh at the fan made sequels,, and hope and dream...
