Jabal Shams known in Arabic as the ‘Mountain of the Sun’, it is coined as the ‘Grand Canyon in Oman’, as the dramatic cliff edges provides thrill seeking trekkers and road trippers a great summit view into a thriving narrow stretch of narrow gorge.
The cool temperature and sharp cliffs offer a very sharp contrast to the hot and flat landscape typical in other parts of Oman. Jebel Shams or “Sun Mountain” offers specatcular views and has an ideal climate all year round even in summer, rarely exceeding 32 degrees. Finally, you will return to Muscat via Birkat al Mauz, the deserted village of clay.
