I have no idea who I voted for but that's what made me choose him, someone new and someone with real 'Doctor Hair'!

From Die Hard to Galaxy Quest to Harry Potter, Alan Rickman shows his versatility. I think that he would have an interesting take on the Doctor. It's also been a while since there has been an older Doctor.

David Walliams would be PERFECT! Hugh Laurie would be good too but I feel he's aged too much for the role now... the Doctor is supposed to become younger with every regeneration.

Would be Good: I think Alan Rickman would be quite good and bring something new to it. I could imagine him as the Doctor he has the look. David Thewlis's Professor Lupin in Harry Potter is very much like the Doctor.

Hugh Laurie has the acting props to pull it off. He totally reinvented himself to turn from Bertie Wooster into House, and he could totally do it again to be the Doctor.

Alan Davies has the right, very Doctor-ish appearance, but I just can't picture him actually AS the Doctor.
Dylan Moran is very funny, but I haven't seen him in any serious roles and all I would be thinking is "Bernard!!" so that wouldn't work. Similarly with Richard Ayoade, I'd just be thinking "Moss!"

Okay, now, who in the Whoniverse has watched Sherlock and not immediately thought OMFG IT'S THE DOCTOR 'cause that's what I did. Seriously, imagine that the Doctor became human thanks to the chameleon arch so as to escape an impending threat. Now he's this incredibly clever human with intense insight and a habit of showing off. He needs a companion to work properly (Watson). He does an awful lot of running. He's gorgeous, and obviously, british. I mean, I pieced this all together in the first 5 minutes of the first episode of Sherlock. Just kinda linked it, and am convinced that they must be connected. Benedict Cumberbatch would be an excellent Doctor.
