Doctor Who  best answer

boabafetish said:
he Doctor's name nobody knows, not even the writers. That's why it's a whisper because the writers haven't discussed it. If they give that away, then Doctor Who won't be as mysterious so you won't really have to watch.
In one of the episodes of the "Keys to time" series, a former school chum calls Tom Baker "Theta Sigma." The Doctor sheepishly tries to silence him while looking back & forth at the camera & his chum. Classic Tom Baker style.
His real name is given in "Unfinished Business" series of online Doctor #9. It is:
Chrístõdavõreendiamondhærtmallõupdracœfiredelúnmiancuimhne de Lœngbærrow -
- Chrístõ to his friends.
Another of his names his chritaéroõdesmaérãtoru. IT is pronouced (cri_est_t_o) but the rest of his name his gobbledegook that cannot be pronouced. Although it cannot be pronounced there will be an episode of Doctor Who where it will be announced but that episode is in the 6th series
Nobody knows his real name. He is known by everybody as 'The Doctor' or just 'Doctor'. He is also known as 'boss' by Mickey Smith.

i have been searching the internet for answers about the doctors real name, and i found out that he actually says his real name in the first ever episode, so after i watched that, i searched the internet again (the name wasn't very clear) and found out that his real name is...Theta Sigma.
his name is a mixture of greek and mathematical words and theta sigma is actually short for something, which i am yet to find out. see that's how good the internet and old movies actually are, they don't give you answers, just a load of other stuff that has nothing to do with it.

tati bye!

Tardis_Alpha said:
Doctor Who spin-off media, which are of uncertain canonicity, have suggested that the character uses the name "the Doctor" because his actual name is impossible for humans to pronounce.[7] For instance in the novel Vanderdeken's Children, it's told that the Doctor already told Sam his real name which is entirely alien and virtually unpronounceable. This is also repeated by companion Peri Brown in the radio serial Slipback. (This would appear to be inconsistent with River Song whispering the Doctor's name in "Forest of the Dead".) The Faction Paradox encyclopedia The Book of the War states that all renegades from the Homeworld/Gallifrey abandon their names to symbolise how they leave their culture. Similarly, the novel Lungbarrow reveals that the Doctor's name has been struck from the records of his family and therefore cannot be spoken.

The Doctor's name. His real name, the one on his Gallifreyan birth (or loom, if you're one of the people who follow that tangent) certificate. The greatest secret in the world. Well, not really. You see, in Marvel Comics Presents #57, a US reprint of Doctor Who strips in 1980, the backmatter page by Mary Jo Duffy claims that his real name is ∂³∑x² – this in turn taken from the "Making of Doctor Who", by Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks from the mid seventies, taken in turn from a 'document' from his trial shown in the pages

I have a theory related to a bit of that. What if a Timelord name is sort of like a fixed point in time and space and there for is almost a part of Gallifrey. Therefore the Doctor really CANT say his name because the mention of his name from him would unlock the time lock he placed on Gallifrey I dunno maybe not probably not meh

Just as an update for this past weeks episode...
River song is actually the gamma forests translation for melody pond...so river song is the daughter of Amy and Rory. Plus it is revealed that she is also a timelord by being conceived during time travel. It has been stated that humans cannot understand the doctors name, and being part time lord would explain why river can say it to him. I like how this ties in with the episode the she dies in, revealing what the doctor knew back when they first met.

In the very first episode, in 1963, The Doctor's graddaughter (who was using the name Susan Forman) was followed home by two teachers from school. When they meet her grandfather, they address him as "Doctor Forman". He says in an aside "Doctor who? That's not my name!" I think that"s about as close as we have ever gotten to actually learning his name. Ever since then he has introduced himself as "The Doctor".

In the episode "silence in the library" the doctor is summoned by Professor River Song to come to the library. There has been alot of speculation about her and what kind of relationship she has with the doctor. I read that Russell T Davies described her as " the doctors sort of wife" so if this is the case and they are infact married in a future time, then perhaps the doctor, in keeping with the common tradition of earth, passes his last name down to her, making his last name "Song". Just a thought:P.

The name of the show is Dr Who? The clue is in the name. The name is unknown. Its not Forman. Thats the name of the yard in which the Tardis resides in the first episode. Susan Forman (an assumed name) calls him grandfather. Of course he has a name, but it will never be revealed.

The "Hello Benjamin" is a tip of the hat to the Mike Nichols movie The Graduate, where Dustin Hoffman plays the main character whose name is Benjamin. Also in 'Let's Kill Hitler', River (as regenerated Melody Pond) props her foot up on the couch and the same shot from The Graduate is used framing The Doctor with River's leg.

His name has never been spoken on the series, and it has been heavily hinted in the most recent season, that the oldest question in the universe, which if answered will affect everything, is Who is the Doctor or What is the Doctor's name? In the original series, they did everything short of coming right out and saying it, that he was one of the creators of the Time Lords. When it was just Gallifreyans, 3 men, Rassilon, Omega, and another man known simply as The Other (because no one knows his name) created the Eye of Harmony and the Time Lords as we know them. The Other sacrificed himself, but his being was put in the Eye of Harmony and basically put into the energy. Several thousand years later, the Doctor is born, a reincarnation of The Other. In fact, his first companion was the granddaughter of The Other, and she recognized The Doctor as her grandfather, though he looked different. She was his first traveling companion. So the mystery of his name has puzzled and eluded all of the universe since as far back as time can go, and it has yet to be revealed, if ever it will.

In the episode "The Pandorica Opens", the oldest message in recorded history, "hello sweetie" left by River Song also had Greek letters underneath that begin with Theta Sigma. We know the Doctor said he preferred to be called the Doctor when his colleague called him Theta Sigma in his early days. Also, we know River Song knows his real name according to David Tennant in the episode "The Forrest of the Dead" when he tells River that she whispered his name in his ear.
"The Pandorica Opens" episode shows the Doctor telling Amy that he followed th coordinates on the cliff face, which were left by River who knows his name, and he says next "earth, Brittain" and the year they arrived in. As I said, underneath "hello sweetie" was Theta Sigma, which I take to mean what you would write to a friend when giving directions in a message....First you would give ur message a clever title, like "hello sweetie", and next you'd all ur friend by name, like " Theta Sigma", and then you'd give them the message, like coordinates (earth, Brittain).
Of course I could be wrong, but I think his name is more complicated than the words Theta Sigma. In some translations, Theta means people or the people. Sigma means the sum of. If the question that must never be answered is really doctor Who?, as foreshadowed in the next season, then it could be that the doctors true name somehow means sum of the people, or people's summation. This would definitely make a great scenario for "the question" and why it could never be answered. Did the Doctor somehow create the human race? Like I said, I could be way off base, but I've researched the names and Greek symbols and this is one idea I've come up with.
Also, in the letter from the council of the defense when the Doctor is on trial, his name is hard to translate, but the symbol "chi" with a two is translated in one way as "air, breath" or the internal necessity for life.

I think that is correct because there is many ties with the Gallifreyan alphabet and the Greek one. There is a time lord inventor named Omege, the last letter in the Greek alphabet. Once in an episode of the new doctor who, maybe the one where the byzantium crashes and there are the weeping angels, I thought I saw a few Greek letters on the home box (definitely and Omega, and maybe some others) and the Doctor's nickname in the time lord academy was Theta Sigma, which are both letters of the Greek alphabet, and the Master's nickname was Omicorn Sigma, which are both also letters of the greek alphabet. And the thing up there, I think would be pronounced in English like delta-cubed-sigma-x-squared. I think this has something to do with the Theta Sigma because both have Sigma in them. (and I know for certain Theta Sigma was his nickname)

In some cultures the man takes the womans name after wedlock. He'd be Mr. River Song .But I think whatever his real name is that he hides it's because it is a really big deal to say it. Though the doctor's real name has not been revealed I believe that in season 7 when the doctor make it to the Fields of Trenzalord at the fall of the Eleventh, when no creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked - a question that must never be answered. So I guess that the answer to the question will be his name because if you recall the episode ''the wedding of River song'' it ends with Dorium (the blue guy that got beheaded) continuously saying '' Doctor who, Doctor who, Doctor who. Also in the episode '' when a good man goes to war'' the doctor put Melody Pond into his old crib, so I think that wouldn't it be possible that the written on the side could be his name. Also maybe the writers haven't created a name for the doctor so right now he doesn't have a name. And finally is it possible that when the doctor choose the name doctor, his real name disappeared.

in series 6, the main mystery is "silence will fall when the question is asked..." its not said exactly what the question is, but its "the question that must never be answered" and you can assume the question is "doctor who?" so, i think that the Doctor's name won't be revealed until the last episode, when silence will fall, the end.

So his name wouldn't be Alfonso, or Bob, or Timmy, etc. Only the Doctor and River Song know the Doctors name. Since there are only eleven, we won't know until number thirteen. Enjoy the wait! The other was said to be re-loomed (which is how time lords/gallifreyans were said to be born before the sisterhood that originally owned gallifrey) as the first doctor.
And a gallifreyan festival known as otherstide was a festival to celebrate the other as a founder of the time lord society which just happens to be on the same day as the doctors naming day...

He is not called theta sigma in fact that was only his alias for two reasons as 1. it was his nickname in gallifreyan academy or school... 2. in an alternate timeline in which rassilon failed to finish the eye of harmony (the black hole in the middle of the tardis) the doctor never left gllifrey, instead he was a commentator where his name was commentator theta sigma.

Uh, apparently his true name is locked within Gallifrey, and if he said it, it would ultimately come the apocalypse and destroy everything, so nobody knows it, only River and the TARDIS do.

But actually, in the first episode, his name was simply supposed to be "Doctor Who". He was not even suppose to be an alien- he and Susan were originally mysterious humans from some distant place in the future or the past. Susan did say she was on an orange planet with silver-leaved trees, but that may easily be a really-distant-future Earth, or they may simply have colonized another planet.

Just in the Jon Pertwee era, they were starting to turn him into an alien.

Yes, he looked human, but that was because they did not have very much budget until the late Fourth Doctor era.

And, also, in the Fifth Doctor era, there were aliens that basically were just humans but indipendently evolved on other planets. (Adric, Nyssa, and Vislor Turlough - the latter usually just called Turlough for short, they did not have last names for some reason.)
