The Date
[Bolt’s Point of View]
The following morning, I was trying to get ready for the date I had scheduled with Maria. I woke up early in an effort to make sure that I’m completely ready. Just when I put the finishing touches on my fur, I heard a scratch at the door. I walked to the front door and slowly peeked out the doggie door. Once I saw that it was Maria, my head went back into the house before I made a complete jump through the doggie door.
“Good morning Maria,” I said.
“Good morning to you too Bolt,” Maria replied, “Ready to go?”
“Almost, I just need to let Mittens know where I am.”
“Okay.”
I jumped back through the doggie door and walked to Penny’s room. I walked up towards Mittens, who was still asleep (it wasn’t even daylight yet). After I gently nudged her she woke up. “Can I help you,” she said.
I replied, “I just wanted to let you know that I’m going to be out.”
“You’re finally going on that date?”
“Yes. We’ll be back soon.”
“Okay. See ya.” Mittens then went back to sleep.
I didn’t want to keep Maria waiting, so I hopped back through the doggie door. “Now I’m ready,” I said as I faced Maria.
“Okay,” she replied, “Where are we going first?”
“I know this great place where we can watch the sunrise.”
“Okay then, lead the way.”
We started our walk toward a nearby hill just a half a mile away from the house. When we got there, we found a spot and began waiting for the sun. While we waited, I decided to start a conversation. “So, you said that you came from Georgia. What’s it like there?”
Maria answered, “It’s not much compared to here. I lived in Columbus, so there wasn’t much country area as far as I’ve seen. As much as I liked life in an apartment, I wanted to find some place quite to be able to think.”
“Well, you came to the right place. This is as quiet as this is going to get.”
“Well that’s good to hear. Now it’s my turn. If you were asked to jump onto a train from on top of a bridge, would you do it?”
I laughed before saying, “Funny you should say that because Rhino, Mittens, and I actually did that in real life.”
“WHAT?!”
“Yeah, we hoped that it would be our ride home, but there were some problems I shouldn’t mention.”
“Now that is insane! So, would you do it again?”
“Not unless I absolutely have to.”
“Okay. Now, what do you want to know about me?”
“I know you might not want to talk about it, but there were some dogs that weren’t so nice to you. Can you tell me what they were like?”
Maria was silent before saying, “Well, I guess that question deserves a fair answer. There is this one particular dog that you would probably need to know of. There was this Doberman named Bruce. He seemed nice at first and we have gone out for quite some time, but he later began walking with the wrong crowd and changed.”
“How so?”
“Well, he began insulting my friends and anyone ‘lower’ than him. He also began abusing me every time I stood up to him. After he nearly killed Cobra one time, I decided that enough was enough. I ended things between him. I’ve been hiding from him ever since.”
“Oh. I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Well, you would have known sooner or later.” I then saw a few tears escape from her eyes. “I should have listened to him. Cobra warned me that he was no good, and I had avoided Bruce-” She couldn’t take it anymore. Maria immediately broke down. I couldn’t imagine anyone who would hurt someone that badly.
I took my foreleg and held her close to me. “I’m sorry for what happened, but I will do whatever it takes to protect you. I will make sure that no one ever hurts you this badly ever again.”
After a few minutes, Maria began to calm down. She looked up and said, “Thank you. You have always been my hero.” Another minute later, the sun began rising. “Wow! This is a great place to watch sunsets.”
“I told you.”
“It’s so beautiful!”
“Just like you.” After realizing what I said, I blushed wildly.
Maria heard me and also began to blush. “You really think so?”
“Um… Yes, I do.” Suddenly my stomach began growling. Maria’s stomach followed soon after. “Why don’t we get something to eat?”
“Any ideas?”
“I know of a stream that’s nearby. Did you happen to see the scene in the show when Penny and I had to catch some fish while we were in Ohio?”
“Season four, episode nine. I’m guessing we’re going to have fish for breakfast?”
“That is correct.” We walked over to a nearby stream. “Okay, now watch closely.” I waited for my target to swim in range before my head shot into the water. My jaws locked onto one fish successfully before I resurfaced. I squeezed the fish until the twitching stopped.
“Wow, your good.”
“Thanks. Now you try it.”
“Oh. Well, okay.” Maria waited for a fish to get in range, but when her head shot into the water she misses. When her head resurfaced, she tried again with no success. She tried one more time, but this time caught not one, but two fish.
“That was random,” I said.
Maria waited for the twitching to stop before spitting them out and replying, “It was like they wanted to get caught.”
We ate the first two fish we caught and shared the third fish. After breakfast, we continued our tour.
[Normal Point of View]
Behind the bushes, a tall Doberman laid behind the bushes watching the young duo. He was coated in a few scars that he received from fights. He growled at the sight that was laid before him and said, “So this is the famous Bolt. And Maria is falling for him?” He let out an evil chuckle before saying, “Not he doesn’t live long enough…”
