Wow. I can already see the hate brewing and I'm so sorry but she just annoys me.
Just hear me out:
The first time I watched Frozen I had no problem with her. I didn't necessarily like her but I didn't dislike her either. I was completely neutral to her.
I am going to flat out say it. Elsa is overrated.
I'm not hating on anyone for liking her, but I would like her oh so much more if the fandom didn't constantly tear down other Frozen characters and DP's and anything related to Disney, just to make Elsa look better. And what if you don't like Elsa? The fans get so frustrated and start going on a rage about how you're wrong.
And I'm sick of when I say she's overrated, fans say "you're just hating on people for liking a character! Shame on you!"
No, I could care less if you like this character, but I think she's overrated because of the way fans build up her popularity. Because truth be told, I would like her too if fans wouldn't try to shove her down our throats.
It got to the point where I just started to see the bad things about Elsa, in order to defend the other characters.
Here are just a few instances:
"Elsa isn't selfish just flawed...
While I agree with this statement, I hate the fact a lot of times it comes from people who hate Anna because she's clumsy, naive and she tried to marry a man she just met.
So I guess Elsa is aloud to have flaws but Anna isn't? Despite the fact Anna's flaws are much less severe? I understand all good characters have their flaws, but you can't just hate one character for having them, but love another one because they have them.
"Elsa is the first Disney Princess to not fall for a man! Why can't they make more like her?"
I see once again, everyone is forgetting about Merida. Seriously what's the big deal with princesses without love interests? What makes them so much better than princesses with love interests? I'm sorry, but falling in love doesn't make a princess any worse or weaker than another princess. They still have people helping them, and I'm sorry for saying this but Elsa is a fucking weak ass compared to the other princesses in the lineup.
I'm not saying Elsa has no strengths -she does- but she's weak compared to everyone else.
"If Let it Go is not your favorite song right now, there's something seriously wrong with you...."
I'm serious, I actually saw someone refer to this tweet on an article on buzz feed.
So there's something wrong with me because a song that was sung by a cartoon character isn't number one on my favorite songs list? I'm sorry to say that Let it Go has never been on my favorite song list, and I doubt it ever will be.
Don't get me wrong- it's a wonderful song, but it had a terrible message in my opinion. It basically said running away from your problems is okay.
"Elsa is so wise, mature while she as an idiot for a sister"
Okay, this is ridiculous! I'm sorry but I don't get how Elsa is so much more"mature"than Anna. Because she has good posture and she speaks in a soft voice? How about how she's "smarter"? Because she told Anna not to marry a man she just met?
Okay being mature is taking charge of a situation, and standing up for yourself. It's about trying to solve your problems no matter how hard it may be. Being mature is about admitting you made a mistake, no matter how afraid you may be.
I get that Elsa was afraid of herself and stuff, but that doesn't mean she couldn't have been more mature.
Wiser however? I don't think Elsa was wiser than Anna, if anything they tie with each other. I guess since Elsa told Anna she couldn't marry a man she just met, she's wiser in romance but what about love in general? Self needs? Enjoying life? I'm sorry but Anna could teach her a thing or two about that.
Why don't you relate to Elsa? She's like the most relatable princess out there!
I'm sick of this. I'm supposed to relate to Elsa, just because we both suffer from depression? I'm sorry but that's ridiculous! The only thing we have in common is we suffer from depression.
We're different personality wise, story wise and everything! I relate a lot more to princesses such as, Rapunzel, Mulan, heck even her sister, Anna more.( They are my favorite DPs for a reason.)
I get it! Elsa does seem like a character that a lot of people would relate to, but just not me!
And lastly....
"All of it was Anna and the parents fault....why couldn't the parents let her be free and why if Anna hadn't woken Elsa up that night the whole thing wouldn't have happened!"
Okay, while I agree everyone, is at fault, you also have to realize Elsa made mistakes as well.
For one, Anna was five. FIVE! I would not believe you if you said you never got up in the middle of the night to play when you were five. And still, Elsa was supposed to be the oldest. She should have known better. Yet, she still agreed to play.
For the parents however, a harder one to defend, but I don't think they really knew what to do. I think they did the best the could do, even at the cost of their daughters' freedom. All they wanted was to protect Anna and Elsa. And besides Elsa had three years to leave or tell Anna about her powers. Why didn't she?
So overall, Elsa is defended too often and I just defended someone else for a change!
