A new Disney and Pixar movie that I absolutely ADORE! I can't believe how easily it clicked for me just from watching it once. When I was making this article I just felt like I needed to have this movie in my top 10. The animation is absolutely incredible and it suits the movie perfectly! The real world is more realistic looking and the emotional world is more cartoony. The designs of the emotions are perfect and all of the characters are just so likable! I thought I would hate Bing Bong, but I ended up absolutely ADORING him! My two favorite characters are Joy and Riley. Joy definitely has the most depth out of all the emotions and has such a unique kind of character development. You'd think that it would be about Sadness learning to be happy, but instead it's about Joy learning to accept Sadness. If this was any other movie it would be the other way around. Riley is pretty much a combination of all of the emotions because they are her emotions. I love how in the end it shows how children do develop more complex emotions and expand their personalities and beliefs. It's an amazing adventure that is truly groundbreaking. It's also one of the most emotional films I've ever seen, no pun intended. It's not higher because I'm more invested in the characters in the other movies, even though I love the characters in Inside Out.
9.The Princess and The Frog
I think this is a really underrated and unappreciated movie. In my opinion, this is one of the best Disney Princess movies. I love the music, actually this movie is the only time that I ever like Jazz music. My favorite character is Tiana, she maybe a stern, but she's really fun and witty. I really love that this movie is starting a second renaissance and Disney returning to it's classic roots. It's nice to see them going back classic movies like this. I couldn't believe that they actually killed Ray. I didn't think he would really die, I just expected him to jump out and say something. I love Tiana's singing voice it's gorgeous! The worst part of the movie was obviously Naveen, he's so annoying and poorly written! Mama Odie and Lottie are HILARIOUS! Ray and Louis, are also really likable and funny. I can't believe that this movie didn't do better in theaters and at the box office. I mean, it has all the makings of a classic Disney movie and is MUCH better than crap like Frozen. It wasn't gimmicky and was just trying to be a classic like Disney had done before. The animation is absolutely GORGEOUS! Disney really needs to return to its roots with traditional hand-drawn animation. It didn't do better because of a bull crap prejudice against hand-drawn animated films. This film really felts like my childhood and that I was seeing something big, grand, and DISNEY! It's not higher because it has some plot holes (though not as big and major as Frozen's), the romance is rushed, and I can't stand Naveen. I love all of the characters, except Naveen!
8.Tarzan
Come on, how can you not absolutely love this movie? What's not to love? Everything about this movie is absolutely amazing. The animation is gorgeous, the songs are amazing, and the characters are awesome. My favorite character would have to be Tarzan. I love how he's an outcast and how he shows everyone that he's more than they think he is. But he also has more than that to him. He's pretty humorous (to an extent) and fun loving. He also cares a lot about the people he loves and wants to learn about who he is. I also really love Jane. She's what a damsel in distress should be. She gets in trouble a lot of the time but still is useful and entertaining. She's one of the funniest animated heroines I've ever seen. I kept laughing so hard during the scene with the baboons and Tarzan was saving her. Actually a lot of the characters are really funny. This movie really tugs at the heart string. The scene where Kala found Tarzan and he touched her hand just makes me melt. It was even more powerful because that moment led up to where Tarzan touches a human hand for the first time. Plus when he and Kala have their emotional goodbye had me in tears. This is one of the most emotional Disney movies in existence. I have no idea why this movie wasn't in my top 10 before, but it will NEVER leave again. The reason it's not higher is for one the villain is really weak. Why didn't they make Sabor the villain? She could've been a really awesome female version of Shere Khan. Plus, that might have given us more of Tarzan's turmoil, even though a HUGE amount of it is addressed. Plus, Tarzan and Jane's romance is a little rushed. It's still good because they have such a strong chemistry, I just think it could've been better. But this movie is still AMAZING and a truly emotional experience!
7.Beauty and The Beast & Aladdin (TIED)
It's hard to decide which of these two I like better, so I just decided to give them both the number seven spot. If you think I'm cheating by having a tie, get the hell over it because I don't give a crap. Both have great characters, amazing soundtracks, gorgeous animation, wonderful romances, Princes that go through amazing character development, hilarious humor, and great messages about changing and accepting yourself. Aladdin also has a fantastic villain, Jafar, who is just so sinister and entertaining. Robin Williams is one of the best comedians that EVER lived! Beauty and The Beast has one of the best couples in fictional history. They don't instantly love each other, but the way they fall in love is so natural and pretty realistic. Aladdin also has such amazing action scenes that really get my blood pumping and excited. Everything about these two movies is just amazing and so timeless. It's no wonder that they're such beloved classics. They both also have some really touching emotions, but manage to balance it with fun and excitement, with background music that suit the scenes perfectly. They have such flowing narratives and know how much to give without making them cluttered or rushed. The reason they're not higher is because Beauty and The Beast has such a lame villain and Aladdin is at times too modern. Plus the others are in my top 10 favorite movies of ALL TIME!
6.Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
I can't believe I ever forgot how much I ADORE this movie! I used to watch this constantly as a child and is now one of my favorite movies EVER! It's such an amazing and fun adventure film with such likable characters. My least favorite of the three is Chance, but he's still a great character that does develop. I love how his thoughts are really similar to how a real dog is like, it's really uncanny. Plus he is really funny. My favorite is Sassy and boy that name suits her perfectly! She has all of the best lines in this movie! I love how, even though she doesn't like to show it, she really does care about Shadow and Chance and will show concern for them. She even sometimes uses her sassiness of bashing them as a reason to save them, like when they're at the pound and she escapes and goes back to save them. Shadow says that he told her to run away and she says that she never listens to dogs. Shadow is my second favorite and is absolutely determined and loyal as it gets! He does whatever it takes to get back to Peter and to protect Chance and Sassy, no matter what might happen to him. The three of them also have such an amazing connection with each other and their owners, which makes me get all the more invested in their journey to get back home. It also makes it all the more emotional when something happens, like when the boys think Sassy was dead and she was separated from them or when Shadow is too weak to get out of a mud hole and it seems like he won't get back home. I mean, he is the most dedicated of all of them and he might be the one who doesn't get to go home! That just tears me apart! Plus I had a dog named Shadow that I lost a few years ago and I miss her SO MUCH! The way the animals view the human world is also really interesting. The ending is beautifully emotional and was the perfect way to end it. It's thankfully a happy ending, but you're afraid it will be sad and you're just in TEARS over it, or at least I am. It's not higher because I simply love the others more.
5.Toy Story 3
Absolutely the best of all the Toy Story movies, ever since I saw it I've been obsessed with it. This is the perfect way to end the trilogy, even though stupidly they're going to make a Toy Story 4 for some reason. The characters remain the same while still growing as characters. Jessie is still one of my favorites and I love her even more because she doesn't act rude. She's learned that she needs to move on and doesn't want to have that whole Emily situation happen to her again. Everything about this movie is brilliant and dynamic. It features who I consider to be the best Pixar villain, just like Jessie he has a back story. I love how he appears as this sweetheart-ed guy but is really manipulative and cruel. This movie has a lot of action and I love how they made the characters all involved in such an awesome escape. I love how they make Barbie smart, useful, and a total badass. I love how she basically torments Ken. Woody is my favorite character and one of my favorite fictional characters. I love how he's grown throughout the trilogy and this film concludes his development. He's a good leader, a great friend, and is loyal. I also love the emotion where they're finally facing what they were fearing in the second movie, of having to learn to eventually let go and move on. The ending was so perfectly sad and beautiful. It's not higher because I just like the others more.
4.The Lion King
This is objectively the best Disney movie, but there are other Disney movies I love more. People think it's overrated, but I think a lot of that just comes from it getting more praise and attention than some of their favorites. If you wanna see overrated, try Frozen and The Lego Movie. Sorry, I'll get to talking about the actual movie. The movie is absolutely GORGEOUS looking! It's probably the best animation of any Disney movie. The colors are incredible, the lighting is stunning, the attention to detail is impressive, the backgrounds look amazing, and the film is just HUGE with the scenery. The characters are also really likable and memorable. I love all of these characters, well, almost all of them. I like Nala and Scar, but Nala is sort of just there to be the love interest and Scar becomes a whiny primadonna in the second half. Sarabi is an okay character. But the rest of the characters are great. Simba is a fun character and does have a lot of emotional turmoil that gets me invested in him. The comedy relief is HILARIOUS, especially Timon and Pumbaa, who are my favorite characters in the movie. Rafika is also a great character that can be wise and serious but also fun and crazy at the same time. When something he does seem ridiculous, it really has a deep meaning to it, like when he hit Simba on the head to teach him how to learn from his past mistakes. The songs are also AMAZING! This is the best soundtrack of all the Disney movies in my opinion. Unlike the opinion of Doug Walker/The Nostalgia Critic (who I am a huge fan of), I do think that these songs do move the story along and show how a character is feeling. The Circle of Life is a great opener that shows the theme that everything that happens is part of nature's design and that life goes on. I Can't Wait To Be King shows how young Simba is naive about what it takes to be king, which he would learn later on in the movie. Be Prepared is a great villain song that would give us some view of what was in store for our heroes. Hakuna Matata is a song that would have Simba try to run away from his past and live his life without worries. This works better than something like Let It Go because he does go through a change and doesn't stay the same. Simba forgets about his troubles until he sees the stars and thinks of his father and later when he sees Nala. Can You Feel The Love Tonight is supposed to show the characters (kind of rushed) falling in love, how Simba is afraid to tell Nala about what happened, and Nala seeing that there is something wrong with Simba. Plus the instrumental style really has an amazing African style to it that gives us a sense of the culture. It gets you sucked into this world. It's not higher because I really think Matthew Broderick's voice acting is really bland. Also, the message is kind of messed up because no one is backing Simba up when he admits his mistake, even if it wasn't a mistake he actually made. That is a serious flaw, but everything else is just absolutely incredible!
3.Finding Nemo
Absolutely without a doubt the best Pixar movie in existence. It's an amazing and entertaining adventure in the most beautiful place on earth, the sea. I'm not kidding, every single scene under water is absolutely stunning and makes my jaw drop. One of my favorite characters is Nemo. He's fun, smart, brave, adventurous, curious, and shows that he's stronger than he looks. My absolute favorite is Dory! She's always making me laugh so hard! She's such an idiot but in a good way. I think she's especially funny when she's trying to speak whale, which surprisingly she actually can speak whale. I love how the three main characters go through such a growth in the movie: Marlin learns not to be so overprotective and uptight, Dory learns that even though she has short term memory loss that she can do anything and useful, Nemo learns that no matter what anyone says about him or his "lucky fin" that he's stronger than they say he is and can do anything he puts his mind to. All the characters we run into in this movie are memorable. I also have to say that I love how they don't make Marlin and Dory are a couple. It's really tempting for them to just make Dory a love interest, especially with the mother being dead, but they don't. They just make this movie have two friends that are the opposite sex travel together to help one another. They help each other with their growth during the adventure and really care for each other. Dory helps Marlin realize how he needs to take chances and not to be so over-protective and Marlin helps Dory somewhat with her short term memory loss. She even says that when she's with him she's home. It's not higher because the others are in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
2.The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Forget Harry Potter! Forget The Hunger Games! Forget Game of Thrones! THIS IS THE FRANCHISE I'M INVESTED IN! Unfortunately, this franchise hasn't worked that successfully because, unlike Harry Potter or Hunger Games, they didn't have the movies come out every year and put as much dedication. It's been years since that last movie and I have a feeling the movie franchise is going to die. But with that said, I still think this is MUCH better than any of those other franchises. The world of Narnia is absolutely INCREDIBLE! It has every magical creature: talking animals, mermaids, unicorns, witches, centaurs, dwarfs, fairies, fawns, dryads, and so forth! Plus it has sword fighting, magic spells, battles between good and evil, magnificent castles, and basically every dream that a fantasy fan LOVES! The atmosphere is just so intoxicating that I want to be part of this world! Jadis/The White Witch is an AMAZING villain, one of Disney's best! She's so ruthless! This movie updated her for the better by not making her so over-the-top, so she can be taken more seriously. I can't decide if I love her or Lucy more, both are awesome in different ways. Lucy has that daydreaming personality that gives her a good heart, fun-loving nature, and determination to help the ones she cares about no matter what. I love all the characters, except Peter, who isn't bad, he's just really bland and boring. The effects and visuals are amazing looking! I feel like this place and the mythical creatures are real! The action scenes are great and really well-done. I do think that Jadis was too easily defeated, but then again that was a problem in the book too. I think they could've updated that to make the movie better, along with maybe having Lucy and Susan interact with Jadis a little bit because I LOVE it with heroines interact with villainesses. However, even though Lucy and Susan aren't in the battle fighting, they still contribute to the story. They let everyone know about Aslan's death and are there to help Aslan when he comes back to life. The actors all give great performances, especially the actress playing Jadis. The only actor I think is kind of bland (though not necessarily bad) is Peter's actor. It's a representation of how to adapt a book in such an amazing way, I just wish the rest of the books came out every year like how Harry Potter and Hunger Games did. It's not higher because my number one is my favorite movie of ALL TIME!
1.The Little Mermaid
You all know me, so you know that this isn't a surprise at all that this is my favorite. My favorite character is of course Ariel she's (along with Melody) my third favorite fictional character. I love her to pieces and her personality is realistic and relatable. Everyone relates to her in some way, even if they won't admit it. I love the songs especially Part of Your World. The songs are all so memorable and fun. I love the romance with Ariel and Eric, it always makes me smile and sometimes gives me hope that I'll find love. I adore the music score of the movie especially the entering Atlantica, Part of Your World, and the ending. I never get tired of hearing Ariel's voice, it's one of the most beautiful voices that I've ever heard in my life. I also love that Disney was in big trouble and was in danger of being shut down, but The Little Mermaid was the movie that saved them. It started the Renaissance, a new age of Disney movies that we all fell in love with. Just like Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella, without The Little Mermaid we wouldn't have a lot of the amazing movies we have today. I just love the whole longing to be in a world that you're not part of and willing to give up everything and do anything for love. I love the ending, especially considering in the original fairy-tale the mermaid dies, which I hate, in my opinion the original story stinks on ice. Anyway, I actually shed a tear when I saw the ending because of how touching and beautiful it is. Even though Triton hated humans he's will get to get over his hatred for humans (Because for one a human, Eric saved him, his daughter, and his people) because his love for his daughter is greater than is hate for humans. The long awaited kiss between Ariel and Eric, Ariel's stunning sparkly dress, and the wedding. It even has my favorite family moment when Ariel and Triton hug and she says "I love you daddy" I definitely shed a tear at that part. I know people think it doesn't show that Ariel has grown or learned, they just think that she's a selfish and spoiled brat. But people who say that completely miss the point, they think she needed to die like in the original to prove she's unselfish, which I think is completely stupid. She didn't need to die to prove she was unselfish! Besides there is some self-sacrifice because Triton has to give up his daughter and Ariel has to give up her friends and family, so there is a bittersweet ending. This is definitely tied with The Wizard of Oz as my favorite movie of ALL TIME!
