The Hunchback fo Notre Dame is a forgotten disney film. Many believe that their children should not see it because it is scary and hard to understand. However, I believe that kids should watch it because it gives off very important messages.
When I watched the movie when I was little I thought it was a good movie that was a little scary at some times but fun to watch. I admit that I did not understand everything that was happening at that time. But as I watched it with my parents that first thing they asked when when the movie ended was "Ok... who was the monster and who was the man?" This was the single most important thing that I learned from the movie. Although Quasi had the physical characteristics of a "monsters, it was Frollo who was the monster within. Unlike all other disney movies, the main character is not beautiful, he looks like the typical bad-guy, ugly (i know his ugliness is toned down some.. but still). This is something that other disney movies doesn't cover and it is a very important thing for young people to learn.
Years later I watched the movie again. This time I understood more of the plot and came to enjoy it even more. I get the jokes and I understand to characters better. That is why I encourage young kids to watch it what they are young and when they are older. Tt has some of the most heart-touching music and inspirational quotes. One of my favorite quotes is " After all we're only made of stone.... We just thought you were made of something stronger." The sweetest moment ever that kids should see is the very last scene when all the people are staring at Quasi and the little girl approaches him and gives him a hug. This is a good lesson showing how pure kids hearts are. Parents want their kids to be like that little girl. Standing up for what is right and looking at someone on the inside and loving them no matter how they look. It is one of the greatest films that I have ever seen and a real eye opener to those clouded by the prejudices that can be seen in society today by reminding you to look past physical features and into the heart.
